From my currently watching list, which BL series or movie do you think I should watch next?
If you want something lighter watch Cherry Blossoms. Everything else you have is serious to heavy to toxic. I really love 180 Degree Longitude but it is artsy and sort of like a play and mostly psychological so you need to be in the right headspace.
Thanks, I'll watch it tomorrow. I do have serious, heavy and toxic things on my list mostly. I think that's my M.O. that is: I love something that is serious and has some core to the story. Nothing cute or anything like that. Those cute ones bore me to death.
I'll eventually watch all of them on my list. But it takes me some time. It's true, I'm not in the mood for 180 Degrees much. I think the actress was shouting and being too emotional for my liking.
But I'll watch it eventually. Maybe even tomorrow, at least 2 episodes if not more.
I recently started watching safe house but it isn't translated. I only found 3 translated episodes of season one. Does anyone know where (fan) translations on youtube are?
Maybe some spoilers:
I finished watching Ticket to heaven and honestly the last episode disappointed me a little. Do their actions seem out of character for you too? I mean the scene in the hotel and in the end the scenes with kongdech. There were other scenes like that too in ep 6 but that are the ones I remember. The 6th episode just seems to be a little bit disjointed to me personally.
What are your opinions. How did the episode feel to you?
How do you guys feel? I feel like right now there aren't that many bls to watch (that aren't really toxic). I don't really watch Chinese bls maybe that is why I feel like that. It is not that I hate them but I can't seem to like the toxicity or the style they have. Maybe I come to like them in the future.
Right now I watch Thai Bls (The most). I only have 3 currently airing shows that I watch now and will start Mr. Kill next week. I wonder when more thai bls are gonna be released.
Because I will watch Mr. Kill I have a question. Do you like bromance or what do you don't like about bromance. I have mixed feelings about this genre so I am interested how you think.
@KoreaDramaFan21
Nope, I don't like bromances. Proof of that was given by me yesterday when I was desperately trying to finish Kei x Yaku on 2x speed. I think they censor too much and especially if the original story is a proper BL, then the adaptation should be a BL too.
I think the only exception to this is The Untamed. I watched that one without getting bored. But I wouldn't mind if they adapted it into a proper BL at some point. Dreams, only dreams.
Drama update
Note: Not going to list everything in my CWL. Just (imo) the best ones!
Completed
• Battle of the Writers: Overall I loved this drama but the directing and editing is crazy.
• Customized Companion: (Movie) This turned into a horror movie real quick. 😱 This is how the machines will take over. Depressing ending though.
• Dangerous Drugs of Sex: (Movie) I honestly don't know how to process this drama. My biased mind says: it's okay, there was a happy ending; my unbiased mind said: WFT did I just watch! 😖
• Listen to my Heartbeat: (Vertical) I've watched around 6 or 7 of the same plot in M/F (if you watch verticals its really common to see the same plot told with different actors) so I'm happy to see we are starting to get them in BL.
• Long Time No See: This drama has everything. Action, romance, a cool plot twist, and a happy ending. This is basically The Lie We Lived In in movie format.
• Lost to You: I loved majority of this drama, but I feel it got a bit draggy at the end. And omg the whole family is gay 🤣
• Oh! My Sunshine Night: I consider this drama okay overall, but its not exciting or entertaining enough for 18 episodes.
• The Boy and I: Thank goodness this was short or I might have seriously considered dropping it. There was some moments I thought were really nice but overall it was just uninteresting. I do like that they part ways at the end.
• The Boyfriend Express: This was such a good campy, play while I cook/clean background noise drama. True soap opera experience. You can miss a whole episode and still know what was happening. 🤣
• Ticket to Heaven: I might be against some of the messages in this drama, but can't deny it's a beautiful, heart wrenching drama with an amazing cast and directing. It's realism is on point, and I think for people who have faith and struggle because of their sexuality, will hopefully find this drama and not feel alone. This actually reminds me of one of my first religious based gay films I watched as a teen back in the early 2000s. It was a terrible film though. 😅 But the nostalgia was nice. HAPPY ENDING
• Viola, Who Was inside You: (Vertical) A cute, low budget, japanese high school drama.
• War of Y: This one was interesting but I felt it lost it's meaning by being too sensational. A softer hand would have gotten the point across better. The 3 story was my favorite.
New
Bittersweet Love: Is China trying to take over the industry or something because they are releasing a new BL weekly at this point. This one's pretty good btw. Though I kind of want to strangle the sister/wife.
Knot: Most of us seem to be in agreement that it's weird that Phatsa doesn't seem to know what looks to be basic knowledge of this world, and with no set up into why that is, is fundamentally bad writing. Is he from another universe? Have tragic accident the left memory lose? I do want to see if they go into this and at what point. But kind of a bad start.
The Servant Prince: I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting this to wow in the first episode. This is potentially filling the hole Fake Fake Lips left. No one better say 'understood' to me for the foreseeable future this is airing 🤭
What I'm obsessed with: so many 😲
Payback: I mean, plot, chemistry, acting. Who doesn't love this. 😆
Deep In: This one has me in a choke hold. The OST is so peak. Anyone else but me also want to watch the drama they are filming?
Don't Be Too Emotional: I read a little of the book (just 100 pages or so) because the plot is just 🔥. Was surprised by some of the differences, but overall nailing it.
When Oranges Fall: As much as I love this drama, its still a school drama in a sea of adult dramas so it has moved down a bit.
A Winter Sun: I'm going to enjoy this more rewatching in the future I think. I mean that in a good way.
The Edge of Horizon: The brother played by Pond is so irritating; Pond can really inhabit any character. Such an amazing actor. That being said, I love the chemistry between the two male leads.
A Dog and a Plane: This has been my easy fun, pallet cleanser, watch drama.
The Prosecutor's Proposal: Blaming a child for the parents actions is a wild concept to me. I understand victims doing it because of grief, but just ordinary outsiders? But that slow turn around in how Ju Tae Seon sees Lee Chae Ha and actively starts working with him is just 👌
Ongoing Honorable Mentions
• Blazing Him: This is another easy drama I can relax to. Ends next week.
• ChermChey: While I like this, there are just too many with better story/plot than this at the moment.
• Smile After Tears: Really this comes down to how they develop Jia Yi and Diao Qin's relationship. 🤞I think it's ambitious to do this type of plot with only 25 min for 12 episodes.
• Unfold: chinese dramas making all the lists 😅 I actually considered being a death scene cleanup worker in my 20s so I had to watch this. Actually a pretty decent mystery case and the actor playing the clean up guy is doing great.
@K-Dramafan21
I love bromance, because it's just a depiction of friendship between men. For me it's like saying you hate dramas with female friendship. 😂
Now if you mean censored BL's, then I don't hate the show, but the rules/government restraining it.
And if you mean queerbaiting, I think everyone hates that.
@ElementalStar
Omg, China does plan to take over the industry. Just you wait. I think they're going at the speed of light with these BL releases. We're so well fed though. I'm so happy.
And omg you've seen DDoS and you lived to tell the tale. How was it? Wtf did I just watch is a proper reaction to it, I'm sure.
Btw you got so many series in your cw list. Are you trying to set a record for most BL watched in a week? O.o

Hahah i didn't mean the depiction friendship between males. I haven't thought about how that sounds. I mean the "genre" -> Almost all gmmtv bromances are kinda queerbaiting in my opinion but still not every bromance series queerbates.
I really love bromance but not when it is obvious that some people interpret it as love because the writers have written it like love without a confession.
The deep friendship that is showed in bromances is the best thing. I hope Mr. Kill won't be queerbaiting (that much) and will show a genuine friendship. I love characters with many layers and complexity so I am really tuned for Mr. Kill and future bromances + really all series in general

I do feel well feed! They are knocking it out of the park as well. Most of them have been great to watch.
I walked into DDoS blind too. It was just a random click. I feel like I'll have ptsd for a month at least. 🤣
Your telling me. This is the closest my list has been to the 20's number though. For the last two previous weeks my CWL was flirting with the 40's. 🥴 I started this week with 650 shows watched and I'm at 695. Granted, I'm still finding dramas I've watched but didn't add yet. I wish I had signed up back when I started using MDL in 2020 to look up shows. 😮💨
@K-Dramafan21
I have a bit of a strict standard for what I consider to be a queerbaiting show.
When they advertise/trailer has cute, relationship like moments between the two male/female leads but when asked about it, the production and actors are evasive or 'watch to find out' when there is no romance between the characters at all.
When a production company continues to produce bromance materials with no intention to represent the community. They see it as a way to sell to people desperate to relate to a character and felt seen. This ones harder to spot and you've already fallen into the trap when it happens.
Anything else to me is not queerbaiting. Just because the audience wants to see them together (like SkyNani) doesn't mean their friendship is a betrayal to the viewers. (I'm just speaking for myself and how I view it).
Also, I love bromance because it gives a safe space for men who don't have to be ashamed for showing actual feelings for their friends. I kind of hate when real bromance is seen as queerbaiting because it's like telling men, 'if you don't behave a curtain way with your friends, its gay' in a negative way.
This is just my thoughts on it. Curious about how you define queerbaiting if you want to share. Did you watch Wu? What parts rubbed you the wrong way if you have?
@ElementalStar I didn't really think about how I define it. Maybe the YouTubers I watch (reactors) influence my opinion because they sometimes romanticise shows like Wu and say things along the lines of gmmtv shouldn't write the stories like that. I personally don't think like them but I now see that their interpretation of some scenes influenced my understanding of queerbaiting unintentionally.
I really like Wu I think only one scene in the last episode rubbed me the wrong way. I do not like that I interpret some scenes because of some people in the community that are really all out on the "romantic" moments between bl actors and even non bl actors.
It is really hard for me to not be influenced by such content. Can you give me some tips on how to not think like that especially between non bl actors.(Bromance) It just seems like some events are targeting delulu people and sometimes even give fanservice or I see it the wrong way.
I don't know if I really said everything I wanted. I couldn't really explain myself but I hope you could give your experience/knowledge and/or opinion.
I always like to learn more and improve myself but my mind is "weak" and is sometimes delulu what sometimes really destroys the experience for me.

The Boy and I: Thank goodness this was short or I might have seriously considered dropping it. There was some moments I thought were really nice but overall it was just uninteresting. I do like that they part ways at the end.
WAIT, did u just spoil the end?!?!?!?! I'm just reading along not expecting it...

Afaik she wrote that before on here and that time she put it in a spoiler tag. But not this time. Might be a slight mistake.
@K-Dramafan21
I think we have all been there with being influenced by the majority (or the loudest lol). I still find myself falling into that as well, but it's completely normal honestly. We are social mammals after all.
For me, it helps that I see my male straight friends literally act like this with each other. Males really do bond like this in rl so, while I squeal with the other fangirls during bromance moments, it's still easy to except that these guys are just friends and be satisfied with that.
I think that is the bases of the backlash though. A lot of the audience just aren't satisfied with friendship and take it out on the show or production when they already knew it going in. 😅
You can always replace the actors with females. Just think of the time you've seen female friendship dramas/movies hug and comfort each other and how it was never confusing that they were just friends and that's a clear indication of how biased we are towards male friendships.

Doesn't the title do that though 😅 but yeah I should have remembered to put the spoiler. My fault 😔 I fixed it.

Okay thanks. With non bl actors I don't think that they are together. I see the clips made out of fanmeets that get cut out of context and music plays in the backround. The creators on social media make it out to be a romantic moment even though it is almost every time a moment of appreciation between friends.
Now to the point what I wanted to say after reading everything and thinking a little bit. I am really annoyed that the world says (some people say) two people are together when they share a deep relationship. Most of the time they are (good) friends.
And something I want to. say unrelated to things said above is that many people sexualize actors even though the moment wasn't meant like that and cut out of context.
