Not watching bad romance

Are you referring to a series, or just that you won't watch bad BL romance series / films?

In addition to (1) watching seven currently airing BLs and (2) re-watching some of my BL favourites when I'm feeling tired and need comfort (I'm big on re-watching or re-reading what I love), I'm also trying to fill some of the gaps in my BL cultural literacy: I'm currently nearing the end of the 2016 BL classic "Make It Right" (first season) - and I love it! It's a bit of a pain to watch because there's no official playlist with English subtitles, so one has to carefully follow the instructions on the pieced-together playlist on WoBL. It's so cute to see some of my favorite BL actors back in 2016 - and holy cow, Ohm grew up so much between then and "Bad Buddy" (2021) that I didn't even recognise him at first! (Yes, that's him below in the blue shirt.) This series is such a gem, it's a shame that it seems to have been more or less abandoned post-Line TV. Looking forward to continuing tomorrow with Season 2.

It's interesting that you are watching old bls. a lot of new viewers founds most of them very cringy or bad because the ganere wasn't that well-known back then. I am still watching them so maybe I will find something good.

I still haven't seen "Make It Right".  probably because of the bad rating, Let me know what you think about it!

I'm working my way through the archive via WoBL's lists by country. I've completed all the series from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. I'm halfway through Vietnam and have made a dent in old Thai-BL. There are some gems in the older series but they often feel dated.

wow I am impressed XD

Has anyone watched The Dangerous Drugs of Sex? I’m watching it now and goodness,  on the surface it seems as close to porn as you can get in a drama, but other people say it’s a good movie so I’m staying open minded for the story they’re trying to tell.

probably yes. All the comments I heard from people about this were horrified and shocked by the content

I think I watched "Dangerous Drugs of Sex" (Japan, 2020) last year. I remember that, although graphic in its depiction of rape and sex, it was more about the psychology of the two characters; the extreme emotions they were experiencing and trying unsuccessfully to resolve.

It is not a BL by my definition though. There are other films not unlike this, such as "Double Mints" (Japan, 2017), and "Sing in Love" (Japan, 2022), where folks focus on the graphic nature of the scenes rather than the raw emotions on display. None of these fall into the category of BL in my opinion.

Not from me. I've seen far more graphic content over the years and out of Asia at that.

I wouldn't be. I was just tired of folks referencing things I had no clue about, so I set about watching as much as I could. Not sure the effort is/was worth it.

I would say that the ratings are divided rather than bad. If you don't like school BL or are easily triggered by certain themes, it's probably not for you - but I totally loved it, as did a number of other MDL reviewers. In fact, "Make It Right" is now instantly among my all-time favourites. It has bunch of different couples, with lots of teen insecurities, jealousies, love triangles and heartbreaks, but the story is simple enough that it holds together, and it's basically light and enjoyable. Not to mention an abundance of cuties (❤!).

In addition to the complicated WoBL playlist (see my first post) with some "notes" that need to be exactly followed, the (unofficial) subtitles are rather bumpy but still understandable. (That being said, I am very grateful to the subtitlers and their hard work on all these BLs!) The audio quality is also a bit spotty, although otherwise the production quality is alright. Finally, the product placement (in-story advertising) is very heavy-handed, even by Thai standards - although I don't really mind if it helps to pay for good productions.

Today I continue with Season 2!
