that has the comment section arguing whether this is a bromance or BL. (I remember when everyone was in tizzy over Stay With Me for the same reason, only it got uglier).

I am never in these type of debates because I avoid all content even remotely bromance. Yes I have never watched The Untamed even though I have seen thousands of clips of it. I just don't feel the appeal of them because they are like a torturous tease. The bl industry has come so far for me to still be watching bromances and series with air and sniff kisses and strong conservative actions. Yes this also means I don't watch Chinese "bl" anymore. The last one I watched was a movie called "Irresistible Love"; I also don't watch them because the Chinese always aim for sad endings for gay couples. I understand that in China homosexuality is strongly suppressed and so the content from there has to be very censored to the point of losing bl elements. It is what it is but I find it hard to sit down and watch something so censored when I have outright bl content at my fingertips from other countries. This is sad because China produces some of the best story lines (Stay with me, SCI, Killer and Healer, Word of Honour, Guardian, Beloved Enemy, ect.) and it is a shame they don't get to be expressed fully as bls. I hope China one day becomes more accepting and production companies will have free reign to produce bl series.

This has nothing to do with the movie being discussed I just used this as a jump off point.

Thank you for your thoughts and perspective. I think I understand what you are saying and I respect your opinion. The progress of LGBTQ rights in China feels very discouraging, but activists won't stop until change happens even if it's underground or from another country.

I thought I had taken my post away before anyone noticed, lol, only because I realized if BL vs Bromance is a hot topic in the comment sections maybe it is here too? I didn't want to sound insensitive unknowingly.  I don't join the Bromance/BL debates either.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another regarding bromance shows and I have to admit I haven't thought too deeply about this topic before.  Please excuse any ignorance on my part. It's not intentional.

The movie RiqueXinw is referring to is Aki wa Haru to Gohan wo Tabetai, which I watched today and posted about, but then deleted. :-)

Even though I'm personally fine with a really good bromance (e.g. "Stay With Me"), I totally respect your standpoint. On the other hand, although I don't have much hope for any kind of near-term liberalisation in China, the clear BL overtones of series like "Stay With Me" might help with social acceptance and gradual future change. It's a slow process. I'm married to a guy, and when I was younger (long ago, in a very conservative social environment), this was unimaginable to me.

On the plus side, it should make us feel better that marriage equality seems to finally be happening in Thailand.

I agree that "Aki wa Haru to Gohan wo Tabetai" (Gaga: "Let's Eat Together, Aki and Haru") is bromance and virtually zero BL. However, for this being a food-themed movie, I was actually more disappointed in the rather lame food (e.g. pimped-up ramen noodles out of the package). It's watchable, but there are other food-themed BLs that are so much better, e.g. the currently airing "Cooking Crush", "Bake Me Please", and most of all the excellent "VIP Only". Liu Li is adorably cute, but Gu Jing's noodle bowls make me drool!

This was a short and sweet watch, easy on the brain, but yeah, not one of the better food themed BLs.

Today's Episode 3 of "Playboyy" continues to be lurid and trashy - so why am I so keenly watching it? What does this say about me? (Do not answer, please.) On a less lurid and more serious note, the series does have an interesting sense of mystery.

Forgive me for straying from BL drama, but I think this will be of interest to some in this group: There are new public opinion survey results from Pew Research (very respected, high quality!) regarding attitudes toward same-sex marriage across 12 different Asian countries.  Thailand comes in at #3. Can you guess (before looking) what countries come in at #1 and #2?  Nope, not Taiwan (#7). Mainland China is not included, presumably because of polling difficulty.

Thanks for posting. That was really eye-opening.

hoping Thailand finally passes their legislation next month

I watched The boy foretold by the stars, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything super mind blowing.

Just watched today's first episode of "Sahara Sensei to Toki-kun" (Gaga). So far, "meh". And although I'm not easily triggered, the student/teacher theme is treading on very thin ice for me. However, I have high confidence in Japanese BL and in their ability to appropriately handle a taboo theme like this. Fingers crossed.

Read the best news this morning: Hwang Da Seul (Where Your Eyes LingerTo My StarBlueming) is returning to the world of BL with the working title "Uncursing Taekwondo" (a.k.a. "Break the Curse of Taekwondo") for 2024.

Wow. She is lowkey carrying KBL and i had no idea she was responsible for so many good ones.

I was sad when she stated in an interview a while back that she wanted to break away from BL and do something different because HDS has vision but I'd watch anything she does, BL or otherwise.
