I don't know.  I think the production team are very happy with the drama, since it's such a success. I'm far removed from China and it's entertainment scene, so I don't know for sure, but I think the show has generally gotten good reviews and made many book readers happy.  Most of the complaints are from fan wars, and some book readers, with, IMO, unrealistic expectations.  Movies are never going to deliver everything that the books do.

I don't know what expectations they had for the 'main CP'.  I can't imagine they thought it was going to be better than what was in the book, especially given they hired Tan Jian Ci to play the most popular male character in the book.

Season 2 complaints are all based off rumors and alleged leaks.  We'll see what happens.

It really is amazing what small crumbs XL fans eagerly clutch. :)

We'll celebrate an afterlife reunion like AH's fan fic, or even a hint that his soul survived for reincarnation.

The show is a rotating success and it's obvious who is most popular. S1 is well adapted. 

We have to wait to see S2. Lots of shows fall flat on the second half when they tend to diverge more and more from the source material.

Honestly, if they want to diverge from the source material, there’s only one direction they should be aiming for. Anything other than that will be ineffective.

Exactly. Not a single day goes by without someone in the main comment section saying that Xiang Liu is the most interesting character, or that TJC is the best actor. 

Lol the supposed endgame is one of the most insipid things I’ve ever seen.

And objectively speaking, he’s the bestest most wonderful guy in this drama.

It has nothing to do with the fact that I am a fan. I’m not even a fan. I’m really not.

Hahaha ... there's still going to be some time with The Other Dude, even with reincarnation.  I mean, he's going to have to be reborn as a baby snake, or baby whatever, and grow up.  He's not going to spring full grown and full of all of his awesomeness out that fat bellied doll....

Hmmmm.  Well, actually he COULD do that.  It wouldn't be reincarnation, but it's very much a Xianxia trope, like the end of Love Between Fairy and Devil.

Awwwwwww imagine if it’s like the baby dragon from Back from the Brink (I forgot his name lol, Ericka will scold me). I want to see him acting like a baby snake. Those eyes!! 

But yes, he could also just appear like his perfect self :)
