I don't think it's funny at all. It's just another example of how opaque MDL is. No imprint. No address. No known owner. No official communication about editing/submission rules (sorry, staff members posting on feeds with their own accounts doesn't count), nor about future plans. That they don't give a statement about GagaOOLala is just one puzzle piece of a whole problem.

Yeah, I was just making light of the issue :(

It's not funny, or it's "funny bad, not funny good".

We need some answers but idk where to get them from. I don't know why MDL is so closed off.

 Tina:
I don't know why MDL is so closed off.

Because they can. *shrug* As long as they get enough traffic (and eyes on adverts) and enough money form users, why should they change?

Problem is, they have a quasi-monopoly, and people are loathe to move from where they have made a "home". I mean, there are still users on tumblr. Or on Twitter. Or, heck, on LiveJournal!

Never was on LJ but was on the others. Quit them after I had enough of toxicity.

Maybe MDL will have the same fate. I mean, I can just find series here and then keep an offline list.

Unfortunately the database here is important to me. Unless I stop watching dramas altogether, which isn't something I plan on doing anytime soon.

It's the same for most MDL users, I think. Sunk costs can also contribute to this.

 Tina:

Guys, I found this post in another thread. A form to request a streaming service to be added to MDL!

https://kisskh.at/discussions/support/51339-request-streaming-provider?pid=1894855&page=17#p1894855

As I said before, many of us have already tried that... 😅 (EDIT:) I suppose there's no harm in flooding it with new requests though, lol.

 Infinite Mystery:

As I said before, many of us have already tried that... 😅

Ah okay. Sorry, I haven't read the thread fully. >_<"

If that has been tried and it failed, what else could we do?

I think I ran out of ideas. There are plenty of votes for the suggestion, but it's like we're fighting with a wall.

 Saeng:
While that's obviously true, especially regarding the news gossip about Korean "celebrities", them adding iQiYi, a streaming provider who is based in China and mainly has C-Dramas or, indeed, adding any Thai TV channel contradicts your hypothesis.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying "korean centric" by the countries of providers they list. They also have, for example, TVer, a Japanese online service to watch tv. But even TVer has a lot of KDrama because it airs on Japanese TV. IQIYI does have a lot of Korean content aswell (at least according to Google).

 fiflydramalover:
Love in the Big City is a drama about a gay man who moves in with a straight woman and the lives they live.

Painter of the Wind is about a protagonist who (SPOILERS), depending on your interpretation, is either a trans man in a straight relationship, or a lesbian woman in a gay relationship. They dont use terms like trans or gay i assume becauzse of the time period.

Personal Taste does have a straight main narrative, but its an interesting look at homosexuality as well, especially through its side character. But again, these are not the only titles. Direstor Leesong Hee Il for example is a well known out and  gay  director from the early 2000s to the 2010s. Theres also the production company Matchbox which does short films of lgbtq content. Again, if you go through the search and filter, you will find tons of movies and dramas.

Yeah, like I said. I misphrased my original post. "KDrama that centers around LGBTQ, especially romance" is what I tried to say because that's basically what GagaOOLala is mainly about (these days). I'm not saying any of those three aren't LGBTQ content, just that it isn't something that would be on their site because it isn't obviously LGBTQ themed and/or more up to interpretation.

And I know of Matchbox, and a lot of these Youtube Channels that produce mini-dramas, but they're independent from Korean TV and media because they upload directly to US or at least western platforms. Movies are also different because they can deal with an 18+ or 20+ tag if they have to, which probably isn't possible on Korean TV.

I'm just trying to say that maybe one of the reasons why GagaOOLala isn't listed on MDL is because Korean mainstream media doesn't really have any content that's on GagaOOLala.

No worries, I edited my response to add that there likely wouldn't be any harm in just flooding it with requests again anyway, lol. 👍

l. It's just another example of how opaque MDL is. No imprint. No address. No known owner. No official communication about editing/submission rules

This struck me as strange when I first came upon this site years ago: the total anonymity. That fact itself is highly suspicious. I tried to find out more about them and all I managed to find was an address in Detroit (or Dallas, I don't remember exactly: it was a big city beginning with D). I looked them up a few minutes ago and found a DNS resolution with IP address located in San Francisco. About a year ago, if I remember correctly, some people here said that the site had been partially sold off to a chinese investor.  I have no idea how any of this works or if it is true.... Rumours maybe? But since they are so secretive, I don't see why we should not be curious!

 -Aprillen-:
I see it more as a way to show Gaga and MDL that we support Gaga in this, just like this thread does.

If you see it like a show of support, I could not agree more. Maybe I am cynical in not believing in petition efficiency but that does not mean I would not try to do something to attain a goal.

Someone mentioned earlier that most service providers go through JustWatch. Maybe both Gaga and MDL users should turn that way. Gaga should ask to be listed there and MDL users should ask for MDL service providers list to be automated through JustWatch, just like they are on Letterboxd.

For some specific things MDL currently seems to work in circles; everything can be delegated and no one has to make difficult decisions in regards to specific topics. This topic? May be part of that circle-process. The circle of people in staff contacted  & either not replying of referring to others will continue until the topic dies down again.

But I think this specific topic will be like a wave, it will return over and over throughout the years. Well, maybe as a solution  eventually the forums could be locked due to technical difficulties so no more questions can be asked? Im kidding of course.... but its more likely to happen than being added to this website once the decision has been cast in private. You will not hear about any decision but silence is also a language here.

But hey maybe the petition does something idk, always better to try than not try

Thanks to the people who mentioned JustWatch. Just submitted a request for GagaOoLala.

You can do so too!

Done, thank you!

I will be leaving MDL due to this complete silence of the admin team. There's no point in staying on a website that doesn't feel welcoming to me. I will only, at most, search the database for a drama to watch, once in a while.

If you guys want to keep this discussion alive, please do so. But I had enough of their bs. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing the link! I tried filling in this form but there was nowhere for me to type in the last answer and the form won't submit without it. I'll try again later or on another device.

I understand, but I'll be sorry to see you go. We need good people on this site!

I don't know if this is helpful but here's a list of staff profiles. Maybe someone here might be responsive.

From what I've heard, the two admins are the ones who repeatedly ignore this request.  The rest don't have the power to go against orders. This is why Gaga went as far as to create an online petition. But if enough of us ask nicely I guess miracles could happen.
