anything thriller, mystery, action, crime, horror & whatever leans into more darker subject matter. lumping this all tgt here because i'm lazy

shows can have some romance or comedy but the overall vibes are dominated mostly by the aforementioned genres.

  • Lawless Lawyer

    1. Lawless Lawyer

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    8.0

this drama walked so vincenzo could run!! might not be as iconic but honestly has everything i could ask for; sexy lawyers, gangsters, quirky humor, revenge, action, all the good stuff. i do remember the story getting a bit thin towards the end but it was overall so damn enjoyable still

  • Moving

    2. Moving

    Korean Drama - 2023, 20 episodes

if there's one 'superhero' show or one ott drama or one thriller/action drama to pick from all existing ones... pick this one. this show has a million baeksangs in my heart

  • Big Mouth

    3. Big Mouth

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    8.0

guessing game, the k-drama. honestly trying to figure out who big mouse is had me loose braincells every week but i'd be lying if it wasn't what kept you watching. has a cool prison setting and LJS looking fine as hell and will very much entertain one way or another, but my heart breaks for the ladies in this show because they deserved better

  • D-Day

    4. D-Day

    Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes

    8.0

adding this here for the disaster aspect! my first medical drama and i don't regret it. in the midst of my "i can never watch anything ever again after vincenzo" phase, it got me hooked and i binged it in a few days. this show was basically that one RDTK3 arc with the collapsed building but for 20 episodes

  • Vagabond

    5. Vagabond

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.5

fantastic blockbuster/action storytelling with great cast, pacing and ~vibes~ aka the most important aspect in a genre like this. cha dal geon is the embodiment of the unstoppable force and i love him to bits. just a shame it's all incomplete :(

  • Cashero

    6. Cashero

    Korean Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    6.5

netflix's first attempt at the k-hero genre, after disney+ already set a(n impossible to reach) standard with moving. definitely watchable, but they didn't get it right quite yet. junho charms his way through some fun action setpieces but i found the overall narrative & character work to be quite dull

  • Celebrity

    7. Celebrity

    Korean Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    7.5

a fun peek into seoul's crazy, scandalous influencer culture with a dash of murder mystery. quite engaging and worth the watch for park gyu young alone

  • Death's Game

    8. Death's Game

    Korean Drama - 2023, 4 episodes

    6.5

a bit of a bummer. generally a fun watch, keeps you interested and will have at least one actor you fancy. but the message completely missed the mark and is incredibly dangerous. let's not perpetuate victim blaming concerning suicide..

  • The East Palace

    9. The East Palace

    Korean Drama - 2026, 8 episodes

    9.0

my surprise of the year!!! me & sageuk don't usually get along but somehow i inhaled this drama like air, court intrigues and all. though here, the complicated web of who-is-how-involved in the palace's dark secrets and alleged curses lends itself perfectly to the drama as it essentially functions as an investigative mystery set in joseon.

just a very riveting watch with great worldbuilding, camerawork, ost & and has one of the best ML/FL dynamics i've seen in a while. gucheon and saenggang are so insane they literally took turns sacrificing themselves for each other. HIGH ROMANCE! a rare W for netflix.

  • The First Responders

    10. The First Responders

    Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    8.5

i grew up on u.s. procedurals so i admit i am a sucker for a well executed one. a little copaganda as a treat okay <3 but this was worth it not just because it's a really good crime fighting drama but also because you get the teamwork with the fire dept. & the characters have a lot of charm!

  • The First Responders Season 2

    11. The First Responders Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    8.5

i did NOT expect them to fridge [redacted] like that it's almost funny like wow. damn. the writer had some serious balls. he wasn't a favorite so i wasn't all that affected by it but rip to [redacted] fans i guess. personally i liked the new guy a lot better! anyways another banger season and my ship is endgame so i'm happy

  • Flex X Cop

    12. Flex X Cop

    Korean Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    8.5

so much fun! crime comedies with great ensemble casts and top tier chemistry between leads are somewhat like crack to me and this was a feast. highly highly recommend if you have lots of fun with this genre and want a well-rounded & enjoyable show!

cannot wait for yisoo and kanghyun in s2 ← aged like milk :(

  • Flex X Cop Season 2

    13. Flex X Cop Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2026, 14 episodes

  • Gold Land

    14. Gold Land

    Korean Drama - 2026, 10 episodes

    7.0

just a pretty solid crime thriller. as so often and as per my not so humble opinion any crime drama is inherently more awesome and cool if there's a sexy little romance thrown in but i fear the writer and me weren't on the same wavelength. i mean! scruffy neighborhood gangster childhood friend who's willing to kill and hide bodies for you in your joint pursuit to secure illegal riches... we could've had it all!

  • Happiness

    15. Happiness

    Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    9.5

amazing thriller drama about quarantine situations we're all too familiar with (minus the murder). nice spin on the zombie genre but not for those who expect the usual k-zombie type of excitement, as it's much calmer and more focused on human relationships. saebom and yihyun are ride or die!!

  • Healer

    16. Healer

    Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes

    10

i just love watching the story and all the intricacies of its mystery unfold, the romance is really only the cherry on top. and boy is it good. some people watching this now may say it's cheesy or dated or somewhat lacking, i say this is a masterpiece and a timeless classic! alexa play Eternal Love

  • The Judge from Hell

    17. The Judge from Hell

    Korean Drama - 2024, 14 episodes

    10

haven't lost my mind this much over a drama in years. enemies-to-lovers freaks where you at??? i'm not talking about some mild annoyances-to-lovers stuff no this is the REAL fucking deal. an absolute nutjob of a female lead punishing murderers eye for an eye? a detective who's on her tail & falls for her at the same time? her falling even harder for him and in turn developing the heart of a human - the greatest sin a demon could commit. all this neatly wrapped up in a biting commentary on the justice system? jesus christ. i mean lucifer. i mean stop everything you're doing and watch this now!!!

(very upset @ the ott fumble here because if this aired on netflix i know in my very heart it would've done absolute numbers internationally. but alas. i encourage piracy and kang bitna would too so you should watch this even if disney+ won't let you)

  • Island

    18. Island

    Korean Drama - 2022, 6 episodes

    7.0

a demon hunter, a priest and a chaebol get into a car... kinda fun actually! not super into the lore, but i love the characters here, who despite the serious story can get so goofy and silly sometimes (looking at johan)

  • Island Part 2

    19. Island Part 2

    Korean Drama - 2023, 6 episodes

    6.0

i didn't hate it overall because i grew oddly invested in the cast, but yeah it definitely fell off. i cannot believe they really killed [redacted] !!! the writer is a coward and a loser.

  • Alice in Borderland

    20. Alice in Borderland

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 8 episodes

    7.0

another good death game show, but as someone who's already had her fill of the genre with squid game, it's not a must watch for me. (though looking at how SG turned out, i'd much rather recommend this show instead!) chishiya is honestly kind of annoying idk his face pissed me off

  • Alice in Borderland Season 2

    21. Alice in Borderland Season 2

    Japanese Drama - 2022, 8 episodes

    7.5

a lot more fun than season 1! gets more crazy and insane than before and the ending leaves an impression and most importantly sticks the landing. i'm a chishiya fan now, chishiya ftw

  • Light Shop

    22. Light Shop

    Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes

    10

*wiping the tears from my face* sorry, i cried too much, i can't see the keyboard

life changing fictional experience. go watch this and stick with it even if it's not what it seems at first glance - it's all the better exactly because of that. a masterpiece & an indesputable feat of emotional writing. kang full is a storyteller for the ages

  • Link: Eat, Love, Kill

    23. Link: Eat, Love, Kill

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    8.0

love how unconventional this was - a melo romance & a whodunit-mystery all the same. there are definitely some lows but the highs are HIGH and i was invested all the way til the end. yeo jin goo once again ends up in a small town full of suspicious people. if i had a nickel?

  • Naked Fireman

    24. Naked Fireman

    Korean Drama - 2017, 4 episodes

    7.5

nothing to write home about, just a really neat little crime mystery + romance drama if you need something quick and simple to get you out of a slump

  • One Dollar Lawyer

    25. One Dollar Lawyer

    Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    6.5

the pivot this show made midway into its run was really something.. disappointing. starts off so full of wit and levity and then without warning adheres to typical tropes which! is fine on paper!!! but it wasn't what this show was being advertised as in the beginning, and in the long run it fails to balance out its 2.5 episode long (arduous) detour into a completely different show. like island, the characters ended up carrying the show for me

  • Parasyte: The Grey

    26. Parasyte: The Grey

    Korean Drama - 2024, 6 episodes

    7.5

not too memorable, but i'm familiar with the japanese original so i was curious as to how they'd execute this in a binge format and it's actually quite good, has some great characters and hits the emotional notes! the ending actually had me tear up a little!

  • Phantom Lawyer

    27. Phantom Lawyer

    Korean Drama - 2026, 16 episodes

    7.5

more mellow than your usual procedural, which may be the reason i couldn't sink my teeth into the plot like i usually can with these types of shows since i very much watch them for their energetic vibe. but despite the rather simple execution the leads were so endearing they made tuning in every week well worth it.

  • Psychopath Diary

    28. Psychopath Diary

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.5

i'm halfway through only but this is fantastic, the premise alone is genius. what if one day you wake up after a suicide attempt with no memories of yourself but a diary which indicates you're a meticulous serial killer? and you're just some dude but now you gotta live up to that? chefs kiss

  • Reborn Rich

    29. Reborn Rich

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    6.0

man... not a very smart (actually very stupid) decision to go off-path with the ending and not stick to the novel. rating it very low sadly because albeit the fantastic performances by SJK, LSM and co. it wasn't my vibe and genre and the ending just sealed the deal for me

  • The Silent Sea

    30. The Silent Sea

    Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes

    7.0

initially quite captivating and interesting but again not very memorable, which is a shame because i love space themed sci-fi. nevertheless, still worth it for gong yoo and bae doona and the lowkey among us plot

  • Strangers from Hell

    31. Strangers from Hell

    Korean Drama - 2019, 10 episodes

    9.0

atmospheric psychological thriller about the horrors of the human mind and in extension, the horrors of existing among others. don't we all relate?

this drama nails the unsettling, deeply uncomfortable feel akin to stories such as junji ito's. really impressive, well written negative character development and im siwan at the best of his game. it's a car crash in slow motion, you cannot look away and so can't he.

  • Squid Game

    32. Squid Game

    Korean Drama - 2021, 9 episodes

    7.5

for the most part, a worthwhile thriller with social commentary. i didn't connect with it much, but it was a decent show. in retrospect, the spectacle of it all had people forget what this was really about - capitalism that pits the lower classes against each other. it didn't need that continuation.

  • Squid Game Season 2

    33. Squid Game Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2024, 7 episodes

    6.0

with the novelty already having worn off, there wasn't much distracting me from the fact that it's all just buildup for s3. not terrible, but mostly a downgrade. at least we had gong yoo going bonkers insane?

  • Squid Game Season 3

    34. Squid Game Season 3

    Korean Drama - 2025, 6 episodes

    4.0

if you loved s1, do yourself a favor and don't watch the 2nd and 3rd part, there's not much to miss. but the mishaps are many: from character assassination, unresolved arcs, useless plotlines, nonsensical writing and an ending so bad it could've been a parody --  this one's got it all.

  • Taxi Driver

    35. Taxi Driver

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    8.5

sbs has a knack for making zany, gripping cider dramas, and they do it so well it always has me coming back. an intense take on vigilante justice in a world where the law fails people again and again, executed by a fantastic team of misfit characters and a male lead who i would dub the kdrama-terminator (i love you kim do ki)

  • Tempest

    36. Tempest

    Korean Drama - 2025, 9 episodes

    9.5
  • Twelve

    37. Twelve

    Korean Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    2.0

worst drama maybe ever? nothing redeemable about it, it's not even the so-bad-it's-good kind, it's just a snoozefest. so awful and bland that it's genuinely sad. be warned, don't waste your time with it. if you liked this then i am absolutely side-eyeing you lol

  • Undercover High School

    38. Undercover High School

    Korean Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    8.5

to me there's nothing quite like a well executed multi-genre drama! this had everything i love, great leads and supporting cast, great plot, unhinged villain and a nicely balanced genre repertoire. and of course, you just know the drama will be a banger if it's about a guy trying to get gold bars out of a building.

  • Unlock My Boss

    39. Unlock My Boss

    Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    8.0

another very unconventional show and i was sooo pleasantly surprised by this! it didn't knock me off my chair but it was such a solid drama. i mean!!! show about man stuck in phone!!! kdrama will really take the most insane premise, make it work, make you cry, and then laugh at you in the face for ever doubting it

  • Vincenzo

    40. Vincenzo

    Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes

    10

(finger purse) vincenzo, vincenzo! murder, corruption & psychopathic villains are on the daily when it comes to this drama, but it's also the most unserious show ever. as a comedy in PJB's trilogy it has the leeway to get as satirical and stupid as it wants, however at the same time it never once backs down from being just as dark a crime drama as it can get, too.

what if we were a brutal criminal with a high body count and an eccentric morally grey lawyer and we'd team up to commit arson and pull elaborate schemes against dirty capitalists and also we're soulmates...? no one's ever gonna do it like VCY, sorry to those who will try

  • Voice

    41. Voice

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

    7.5

starts off really good but lost me a bit in the later episodes. wasn't a fan of the ML but it was worth watching for the FL and her special ability! also kim jae wook don't forget kim jae wook

  • Weak Hero Class 1

    42. Weak Hero Class 1

    Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes

    9.0

k-media is chock-full of highschool bullying & fighting narratives, but this ended up being so much more - a tragic exploration of the fragility of youth (and the fragility of my mental and emotional state). watch this if you never wanna be okay again. in shambles and crying and on the floor etc etc
