  • Remembrance of Things Past

    1. Remembrance of Things Past

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    7.5

Before I started the drama, I did not quite know what to expect. Well, it turns out to be a nice slice-of-life drama portraying suicide, depression, and those who are left behind. The three female leads are all living through different stages in life, so their issues are different. Nonetheless, due to the suicide of their friend/cousin, the three friends lean on each other to continue with their lives. I really appreciate the flow of the story and the maturity of two of the romance lines. All three women learn how to deal with death, all the open questions and their own lives and weaknesses. While I appreciated and enjoyed the story, I still caught myself fast-forwarding a bit. This can be due to me watching the drama on YouTube. As the tone is sometimes "empty" and music removed, it is difficult to fully immerse into the drama. Furthermore, the youngest of the group Xu Yan is a bit too naive and annoying. She should still be in her mid-20s (like me) and her whole behaviour is so toxic and immature. That being said, I do like her ending, it matches well and is focused on character development and healing rather than a forced happy ending. I would certainly recommend this drama to those who enjoy a good slice-of-life drama with mature romance. Ji Nan Jia and Ou Yang were my favourite people. I kept routing for them. 7.5/10.

It's a fun short drama but I am still waiting for the second season. If Sae Ron is allowed to work again, I hope that they will pick the second season up, so the story will be finished.

    4. Unforgettable Love

    Chinese Drama - 2021, 24 episodes

It's a sweet drama including 'contract marriage' and all the tropes that are included in rich family dramas. I liked the first episodes but around ep 14, the typical tropes became repetitive and annoying. Also, from episode 15 onwards, the skip button became my best friend because all the tropes that I am not a fan of became stronger, such as a love triangle (though it is not dangerous emotionally) and a forced breakup to protect the other person without explaining it to the partner, which I absolutely hate. I actually have very strong feelings about the last trope because it ignores the feelings of the other person and takes away their decision to decide their future. They oftentimes actually gravely hurt the person which is not protection at all. I finished the drama because I still wanted to see how the drama ends (though, it is quite obvious) and to get closure. After all, essentially, the main characters are cute.

A really good romantic drama. I liked the chemistry between the leads and their maturity. It was fun watching them evolve from one-sided high school crush to friends to lovers. I can recommend everyone to watch this drama! Go for it! It is deffo worth your time!
