That is the million dollar question. Nobody quite yet knows the answer to that question. The Chinese government already goes after chinese authors of BL novels, and now that Chinese entertainment companies have found loopholes around the laws that prevent them from making BL series in China, time will only tell if the Chinese government will start targeting the actors, screen writers, directors, etc. of these BL series.

After reading all the comments, I now regret not waking up at 8am this morning like I had originally planned. Now I won't be able to watch the episode until after 5:30 this evening 😭😭😭 I should have just woken up at 8am and watched it then instead of sleeping for an extra hour 😭😭😭😫

Ok, I just have to say it. To everyone complaining about the age gap and the fact that he is a grandafther....Have y'all never seen a vampire romance before, especially one where the vampire dates a human, like in My Golden Blood, for example? Nobody was complaining about the massive age gap there, like nearly 200 years worth of age gap, old enough to be a great, great, great grandfather.
Just think of the age gap in terms of vampire romance age concepts and then this series age gap doesn't seem that weird. At least, that is the way I think of it. When compared to vampire romance age gaps, this series is quite tame. 🤣😂🤣😂😅😅😅

Yeah, I don't know what is throwing me about their chemistry with this series. I do still like the series a lot though, probably a little bit more than Cutie Pie even.

I think some of it is what ever blurring/whitening filter that are being used for their faces and the color and background blur filters that are being used. It just throws me off, especially the one for their faces. They have blurred Zee's face so much that it removes his jawline in a lot of scenes, making his face look rounder, which I know that his face is not that round. Adding all that together takes a lot away from the scenes.

Exactly! Especially when you read the book. The book gives total alternate universe Hunger Games vibes...and now the series has added this. Yep! Alternate universe Hunger Games indeed!

But compared to the chemistry that we saw in the Cutie Pie series, there is a noticeable difference. There is just something a little off about the chemistry in The Next Prince when compared to the very noticeable chemistry in Cutie Pie. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly is off, but something definitely is.

There is also another Chinese BL called Desire that will start airing on July 12th. It is an ABO mpreg BL...and China is the first country to take on such a unique and controversial BL drama genre. This one will also only air outside of China. It will air on Youku.

Same! I was going to wait to watch it till more episodes had aired. I SWORE to myself that I would wait, but Youtube just kept showing me more and more amazing edits of the series....and I caved to the pressure and watched all 8 currently aired episodes in one sitting. Now I have to wait on the edge of my seat for the next episode 😶😵‍💫🤦‍♀️

It is a true BL from mainland China, not a bromance. It airs only outside of China, which is how they were able to air it. It is an amazing series! When China does BL, they do it very well!

I loved the series for the first 3 episodes, and then as it progressed through the series and deviated more and more...and then more from the novel, becoming basically unrecognizable from the novel, I liked it less and less. Khanin's personality no longer resembles the Khanin from the novel. Series Khanin is also not the brightest marker in the box. Novel Khanin was a master strategist who knew all the moves and counter moves of those around him. In this, he rivaled Charan, which is what helped make them such a perfect match for eachother. The writers kept Charan's personality more or less the same as the novel, but I feel, at this point in the series, that Nunew has kind of taken over the Khanin of the novel that I loved so much.
Very little of the series actually resembles the novel at this point. It is still a good series if you can completely separate the novel from the series, though.
It feels like the writers purposely wrote the first three episodes to closely follow the novel to draw in novel readers, and once the novel readers were hooked, that is when the series began to slowly and then drastically deviate from the novel. By then, it was too late for novel readers to back out because they were already hooked at that point and now just have to see the series through to the end.

So, all in all, it is still a good series, but no longer resembles the novel. I just need to learn to separate the series from the novel and no longer hold any expectations for certain key novel events to happen in the series. Expect the unexpected, you might say.
