you're welcome and no problem, Glad my input helped. Well everyone needs something to get away from their everyday life, and for many ppl it is fiction I guess. most time reality sucks so I understand them.

Also here TV is not that big of a thing esp for 1~2 member families, or young people. most ppl just own a monitor and don't pay for cable/own a tv (I don't either) so tv series about romance/ family and older target audience tends to rate much better because people who watch tv the most is over 40 females. 1938 is a sci-fi/action series, it had limited viewership to begin with.

also it IS big budget drama but it is 12 episodes only, not like most of other korean dramas which are about 65-75min~ 16~20eps. So I'm guessing since it is only 12 eps and pre-production, they saved some money.

They are talking about this drama, s2 (also s2 fl) has more hype. the Evaluation itself is pretty decent. Only downside was dr.cha(rival show) did so good, much better than they expected so it was kinda overshadowed. But it did decent and review was pretty good too. esp about FL.

well for most of the series, s2 drops in everything, including ratings so it did decent, and they did look at s1 statistics when they decided to make season 2 so it means they were satisfied with s1 results. Also it did better in OTT tving viewerships, better than tv ratings, so it can't be all about ratings. Tving itself is a paid membership korean ott.
Season 2 ratings were better than all season 1 ratings overall. The highest rating season 1 ever got was 5.8%,…
well to be fair as a korean we don't get many season 2s.. even when we do most of cast gets recasted, because most of the times cast contract only one series. so getting a second season and doing a decent job is already a big deal. Also, 1938 was big on tving in korea and tving paid handsomely for the sole ott right so it counts too. 1938 did pretty decent job, the only thing that wasnt expected was dr.cha (it blew much bigger than expectation and it had much more access/promotion too since it is on Netflix) 1938 did a decent job overall. But it was a big budget drama with a lot of cgis and needed post correction/editing so had to be made post-production (which is rare in korea) so if it is not contracted for s3, it might take a good while and a lot of discussion/ scheduling to push s3. BUT IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE BECAUSE THERE WAS A NEWS ARTICLE THEY ARE DISCUSSING ABOUT S3, AND ASKED ACTORS/ACTRESSES IF THEY WERE INTERESTED IN JOINING.
Also, most of kdramas get much higher ratings in last episodes, due to the "quick" cultured people like myself... we want the ending asap and don't want to wait for OTT release. Even people who didn't watch the series at all also come for endings (also I do that too) because some people here decide if they want to watch the series based on the last episode. Or some ppl just read summary+articles of it and only watch endings. It attracts all sorts of viewership, hence higher ratings. Also the dr.Cha viewers had nothing else to do since it ended so they would've watched it too. Cameo would've helped I'm sure but it is not the main reason. Ending itself was much more of a "hot potato" since many ppl here thought characters would end up dying and it was in discussion everywhere. And that it was so well made (after few kdramas ppl are really anxious about the endings.) Also the fl of 1938 (So yeon- kim) is getting much more hype here in Korea. not confirmed. it was planned /talked in advance of making s2 (s2 and s3 were plotted together roughly) but not specific plan was released. I'm sure they are talking about it but in most time actors have to be scheduled far before, so if they want to, they have to plan it like NOW to get it released in 1,2 years later
it depends. I dropped s1 super early but s2 is my fav. also I had no prob understanding dynamics. If you wanna…
you're welcome. like knowing the "essential" dynamic is like a 1 min google search away (even that is not that needed because in s2 e1~2 they give out what's really needed) but if you want to know detailed dynamic like "why" they have certain feelings & settings watching s1 would be good choice, but it is mostly romance based btwn ml and fl so it has totally different plot and vibe to it. (for some people who like s2 it can feel draggy since s1 is much longer too) so it is really up to you to decide. you can try out ep 1~2 on fast forward and decide. I did and skipped to watch s2 and still feel fine with it.
I'm sure a lot of people have asked this but.... Should I watch the first season?
it depends. I dropped s1 super early but s2 is my fav. also I had no prob understanding dynamics. If you wanna dig deeper s1 is recommended but not needed.
Wow the comments! Never seen so much hate for the ML except in Republican era and Thai dramasβ¦πIβm afraid…
i dont know I mean he is still not that good to me.. even in recent episodes he behaves stupid/not on fl's side.. he changed alright but not that good and sml is bad too lol this drama is crazy
errr...not sure why but I feel not comfortable seeing this FL in her 30's behaving like a cutie little girl; not…
they are only 7 yrs apart and fl looks super younger than her age. I bet you wouldn't even mention it twice if it was guy who was 7 years older. your recommendation like your pov is not good at all either, TTEOTM sucked lol.. some parts and actors were good but that rushed af storyline (which clearly showed they edited out huge part of the show) and ending was just horrid.
if u want crazy psychopath drama in which everything burns at the end this might be a series for you π
this ML could easily be the WORST ML OF ALL TIMES π I don't want our fl to end up with him at all π this fl could've been the female lead of my dreams (level headed, calm, smart and reasonable and decisive) but instead (probably to keep this shit going) she keeps going back to that trashy psychopath of a ml and I'm getting sick and tired of it π I dont want them happily ever after, I just want sfl and ml to BURN π And I want fl and any (and I mean ANY because literally any decent guy with common sense would be better than ML) decent guy drive off to the sunset and have a happy life outside of this crazy storyline π Even sml here is f**cked up and I have a weak spot for sml in general π she should have just drove off to the sunset with that dude who always wore white from earlier episodes π’
is it some kind of a trend to have psychopathes as ml or sml these days? π They should at least make one of them good so fl would have an actual reasonable choice π Like why make fl choose between bad and crazy π€£
this is pretty interesting series, still in really early episodes but I like that they tried something new. Love the ML-FL dynamic too. not typical young positive cheerful fl - experienced smart cold ml drama! Love it so far
exactly, I'm so sick of those characters.... I mean I want a sweet and caring gentle ML and cold smart FL with…
I guess they can make more "complex" characters with realistic bg yes but I prefer gentle ones myself (most of the times I go for SML) I'm so sick of those overpowering macho CEOs and candy style stupid FLs
