This drama is like watching a train wreck to happen, and you just can't stop watching. What keeps me going, just…
His entire studio needs to change. It never did after he started getting more popular. He should have moved on to a bigger studio after his success after Ashes of Love. There is an entire appreciation post on Reddit with more details about why he has outgrown his studio. π

This drama and Immortal Samsara have been the most recent XianXia dramas I've watched with satisfyingly happy endings. What I mean by that, typically we get pretty much conflict up until the very end of the last episode and then the main leads get together the last 2 minutes and sometimes even less than that! Immortal Samsara gave us 2 bonus episodes that added up to about 15 minutes that showed the happy ending and it just felt so good! I didn't think I would see another satisfying ending but another Cheng Yi drama did it again!
LaR gave us a solid 20 minutes of just bliss. Conflict was over and the episode spent it's first half showing Xuanji taking care of Sifeng (SIFENG lol) and side characters getting their stories wrapped up. I was convinced an unconscious Sifeng was going to get dragged around the world until there were two minutes left of the episode and then he woke up, they hug and then credits. NOPE! We get 20 solid minutes of them reuniting, a wedding, a sweet wedding night, a family get together with Xuanji not regretting her choices as she looked on at all of the people she loved, and then a sweet moment at the end with just the both of them back in the heaven realm to live together forever. Cue C-Dramaland camera zoom out and then credits!
I cried. CRIED! It was so healing after 58 episodes of misunderstandings, schemes, hiding truths, war, etc. Sifeng suffered so damn much! I get the trope. I do. You can't have 59 episodes of a drama if everyone is open and truthful about things from episode 1. But these endings are just so good and make the pain worth it. I wish all XianXia followed this formula. I've watched so many that just fall flat at the finish line. Ancient Love Poetry? Conflict and sadness until the last 45 seconds. LBFAD same. We get 30 seconds of DFQC saying "I'm back" dude, really!? We couldn't get 10 minutes of them being happy in their little garden!? Handsome Siblings (though not XianXia) same. Literally 90 seconds of a happy ending. STOP IT C DRAMAS! Do this instead!
I'm going to put this in my top 10 Xianxia dramas! The OST is amazing too!
I just finished this and WOW! The beginning was a little rough, but when it found it's footing, it really took off! There are enough comments here about the overall show, but I want to talk about the ending. Spoilers in comment for new viewers.
Imagine spending energy on a show you don't like. Lolol go outside. There are plenty of dramas I don't like and I'm not hanging out in the comment section raining on everyone's parade. π
For effing real. I have never seen a drama from anywhere, not just China, that was a page by page adaption of…
Personally, I'm enjoying the changes. They probably should have softened LSS character because they changed TTJ. Its like novel LSS is reacting to novel TTJ in the drama, but drama TTJ isn't novel TTJ so drama LSS should also not behave like novel LSS because the story and character's have changed. That is my only complaint about the drama. They didn't soften LSS to interact with a softened TTJ.
... I'm thinking, though, I'll just get off this bad-edit bandwagon of comments and wait it out without coming…
For effing real. I have never seen a drama from anywhere, not just China, that was a page by page adaption of the novel or webtoon it was based off of. I'm confused how people are confused. Watch the show. I don't understand how ep 33 was so confusing. Pay attention! China was never going to allow TTJ to be as sadistic/masochistic as he was in the novel. They aren't going to show r*pe or how abusive YXW was or how TTJ was SA as a child, etc. Changes are expected. If you don't like a scene, it doesn't erase the novel. Go read the novel. I'm not saying this is a perfect drama, but we are all aware the problems the Chinese government causes for these productions. They shot it for more episodes and China was like nah, cut it down so they had to do their best to comply. It really is frustrating that viewers are complaining knowing damn well that these things happen.
TTJ pleading with YXW that he is not the devil God and he didn't kill all of those people she loved was so heartbreaking. πππ He wanted her to see that he was good, but I understand she can't take the risk. The evil bone isn't him currently, but if it wakes up, would he even be able to fight it? Would anyone take that risk?
After the tower, he is so broken. Only Luo Yunxi can look so devastatingly handsome while utterly destroyed. What an episode!
Today's episode was so painful! Even though the main CP didn't have much screen time, them suffering separately and alone broke me. Tomorrow is the episode that we're all dreading. The tower scene. ππππππ
