I don't remember specific points in episodes to say. But I remember that he calls her a leach (because of her parents money) in one episode. And there are some instances where he demeans her or just stands by while other people accuse her of things (which I'm sorry, but if you're there and don't say anything to help her, its the same as attacking her).

Someone with more time or better memory could probably give you better examples. But this mostly happens in the first 4-5 episodes

In regards to the other drama i will take your word for it since I've not seen it yet.

Let's look at it like outsiders.
Yes there were misunderstandings and lies told by Rong.
BUT
He was always rude to her, from the first time they met. And then he never really changes.
Did the SML ever try to talk to the FL about it, confront her to see if those things were truth? There was once where he kinda defended her to Rong in a flashback, but he then proceeded to just fold and believe Rong.
A lot of the misunderstandings he was at fault for, why not answer her message that the FL send when she found out about the "relationship" the SML and Rong have? Why did he never make it clear to her they were only childhood friends? Why did he never try to defend the FL when people were attacking her or give her the benefit of the doubt? He never stood by the FL.

At some point he starts liking her(supposedly), but his behavior towards her never changes. And he also never apologizes for his behavior.

The whole problem with the SML is that he never TRIES, then he makes the wrong choices because he does not have the correct information and then proceeds to blame everyone but himself.

The haters-to-lovers trope usually involves mutual tension and growth. What we saw was a one-sided dynamic, where the SML repeatedly emotionally mistreated the FL by demeaning her because of the fact she had money.

I haven't seen that drama. But you're making it sound like the reason we don't like the SML is mainly because he rejected the FL. That's not it! Not at all!
This is a lot more that just unfortunate events.

If from all of the comments you still can't understand why most of us feel the way we do about him, either we are doing an horrendous job of explaining ourselves, you're just ignoring or refusing to understand and accept it, or we just have vastly different outlooks on life.

I will tell you this though, if a man treats you the same way the SML treated the FL, run because 9/10 times he won't be worth it.

I mean yes? I've overheard shit about friends and kept my mouth shut because there was no way in hell I would get in the middle of it. Hell I've had friends overhear something about me, brag that they know something I should know and then never tell me.

I'm not exactly defending him having that conversation in public, I'm just saying that it is realistic.

I don't hold that against him, he is young, and the situation was pretty realistic.

Even if they had started a relationship it wouldn't have worked. The FL would have seen the signs that he was just like her father. And he would have done what the FL father did to her mother. Kill her light because his ego couldn't stand that she was better than him.

He did have a hard past, and that helps us understand is actions to an extent, but it doesn't justify them.
From the beginning he had a very harsh opinion of the FL, just because she has money. Rong did feed him a lot of lies, but he never actively tried to find the truth, and even when he has been proven wrong he never apologized, instead he blamed Rong for most of it, without taking any accountability for his action(or lack of).
He should have stepped forward to resolve the misunderstandings the FL had, since he was at the center of them, but every conversation only made it seem like he disliked her more.
A lot of the miscommunication could have been solved if he had given the FL the benefit of the doubt, but even then their relationship would never have worked out, because (and I'm going to be harsh now), he is a spineless prick full of self-pity. He is exactly the same type of person the FL's father is, a man whose ego can't take it if the wife outshines him, and we saw how that ended.

You are right that for now he has been decent enough to respect boundaries, let's just hope that after he finds they're not dating he will respect the FL decision (and i have my doubts).

Maybe this sounds harsh, but as a man, I don’t think the SML deserves pity or respect until he looks inward, takes responsibility for his choices, and accepts that his past doesn’t entitle him to act like a shit.

I'd like to believe that if FL and SML had ever dated, her mother would have been able to smell the trash he is a mile away and warned her.
But they never would have worked out, because after dating the FL would have seen the similarities between her father and the SML

I think that was one of the reasons, I think she also saw how the ML and FL were together, and thinks the SML has no chance and will only get hurt.
She wasn't completely selfless, but not selfish either. That's why most people like her, she is not a snake like Rong

She was so fucking self-aware I started doubting my eyes when I read the subtitles. This scene was so simple, but so good because it almost never happens in shows like this.

If they do go to dinner together and he asks her if she has a boyfriend straight up, I think she will tell him the truth, but also probably add that she likes him(ML) and not the SML.

Part of me wants the SML do tell the FL that he always liked her, just so she can think back about how he always treated her compared to the ML and then get closure and start dating the ML.
Ideally she would laugh in his face and then rip him a new one by showing him how much of a spineless woe is me prick he truly is.

I hope not, I think the reason why the ML says that in the preview is because of the misunderstanding of the first episode where "she" never visited him in the hospital.

If the SML does invite her to dinner, I hope she straight ups declines. There is no reason for them to have dinner together alone, for any reason.

Deep longing and devotion were the ML's from Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, and You Are My Glory. Especially Yu Tu, since there was a time where he had a problem with the amount of money the FL had.
There is such a huge parallel between Yu Tu and Zhuang Xu. It just makes me hate the SML more xD

I didn't read the book either, I'm only talking about what I've seen in the drama.
I just feel like "longing" is the wrong word for it. I can't believe he truly ever loved/liked her, because from the beginning he was resentful(might be too strong a word) towards her because of her money. And I think the fact she liked him stroked his little ego, and that's what he liked. He might have even been delusional enough to convince himself. That's why he was/is so butthurt she moved on.
As a guy, I can't see his actions/attitude towards her and feel genuine emotion.

How, where? "just because ..." Rong talking shit about and manipulating the situation didn't help, but let's be real. Ultimately, the only reason they never got together was because he was a self-pity no spine prick who treated the FL like shit any chance he got because she was rich and he made an initial opinion of her that he never tried to really change.
The only thing he really had to do was go and talk to the FL. And he never even actually apologized to her yet after being proven wrong
