One of the things I adore about this drama every one of the characters big or small have such depth and richness to them none of them feel like they are props for the story to move forward rather they are very much dynamic and complex . Even the most annoying characters they still have such nuance and depth to them and I love that about this drama.

I can give a million reasons on why Duan Wu sticks with Yan Zijing than Zhang Jingran even though he is the kinder one.
She has only yearned and wants to seek her freedom through one way that is through her own actions and trade. A freedom without indebtedness. Yan Zijing gives her that and more albeit the path is very brutal.
Yes he isnt the kindest sweetest person ever but I have to admit him and Duan Wu have experiences a little more common and lived through a brutality than Jingran has neither seen or experienced ever.

A] Cui Ding of Cui Family was siding with Prince Tan. And now they do lits of corrupt stuff for this prince Tan.
B] Zhang Jingran belongs to the opposite Faction Prince Ying who is looking to see if Prince Tan's corruption coudl be found out so that he no longer has right to the throne is what I inferred so far.
And the pearl tribute is a form of tax payed by business men and families who does pearl business to the Emperor.
I cannot wait to see the introduction of Zheng Zhi Heng and Yue Yun Xui I wonder which epsiodes we will get them in 🤔. Also there are so many good dialogues in tsopg from various characters including our Girl Duan Wu let me quote some od my most favourite ones so far ,
