Writers can make some sloppy writings from time to time, especially if there was no editor to check the scripts. At least they did it to a guest role and not main characters like in some dramas I watched. It is still a shame nonetheless.

I call it a lazy writing to introduce a new character. So there was this bridge, an entrance, with no one but a silly young cap to 'guard' who randomnly attacked the strongest person, not Jiang Ci, out of 3 to only get attacked back. Then to trap a troop and fight them all by himself. Such a weird writing.
Writer could just remove the whole scene and changed it by having him meet Wei Zhao and others while hunting rabbits or collecting herbs then had a meal with his family and viewers will be okay with it.
Not sure why it was made that way. To make everyone in Yuelou looks that they still have their fighting spirit intact despite being the conquered country?
