The fighting scenes in this drama is old style wuxia, not heavily relying on CGI but using swords and hand in hand combat. They may be shorter, especially compared to old wuxia dramas and some recent dramas with CGI, but they were executed nicely and delivered beautifully. Wuxia with less or without romance usually have longer fighting scenes. IMHO
Those who said that Bao Shangen only had 1 expression really need to watch today's episodes and watch how she slayed her role. The suppressed anger towards the young master she liked after realising how she had been fooled was so vivid on her face. The hidden sadness and soundless cry after that. She was torn between him and her duty as the Cai.
Bao Shangen is far from bad actress. She won Best New Actress just 1 year after her debut. She delivered her role in this drama according to what she was assigned and directed to do and should not be mocked for that. The same for Zhou Yiran. They are both young and talented and have done a good job in delivering the couple characters with top notch chemistry.

The story is about 2 generations. Cai Zhao (FL)'s aunt was the previous generation, and her (life, love and death) story came out as flash back.
There is the main story with the current generation, Mu Qingyan (ML) & Cai Zhao with the disciples of the righteous sects.
The past entangled with the present, with the loveline between FL aunt and ML uncle, and also the forbidden love between the daughter of the Luoying sect (Cai clan) and the chief of Li or Demon sect (Mu clan) from 200 years ago.
In Xianxia genre, Mumu would have died several times and gone to hell for Zhaozhao. In this wuxia, he would resort to endanger his own life just to keep her with him. He knew that his girl was too smart to be kept from his lies but he could not help himself. Mumu was all out for love.
Zhou Yiran slayed Mu Qingyan character flawlessly. The way his eyes turned from showing the pain and helplessness to the cunning and scheming stare the next seconds really made me clap in appreciation 👏🏻🫰🏻 This drama is getting intense and interesting each day I think I will be dying with just 1 episode a day.
