Not robotic. Understated. But in a good way. Sometimes the more understated the acting is, the better the emotion/character is conveyed to me as the audience. I feel it's that way with this actor. He's always left a good impression on me in each of his parts in Untamed, Sweet First Love, and The Moon Brightens For You. That can't always be said for a good portion of lead actors, and he hasn't even been a lead in any of those roles.
I think the word that sums it up is 'sincerity'. The way he portrays his characters always comes across as a sincere portrayal.

It's a pity you didn't like it. As mentioned I'm not that far in. Only reading the first apocalypse story from the library right now. Was thinking this would make an excellent adaptation to the screen in a series form if the story continues at this level. The suicide thing would likely be problematic though...

... ok, I can see how that might work for some people. The suspense of the story in your case isn't in how it ends/resolves, but in how such a great ending begins.
Another comment while I'm here. ATM I'm reading another translated novel called 'sss class suicide hunter' which I'm finding enjoyable. Not far past the chapter that introduces the library levels and I'm thinking the author is either a genius or a secret Doctor Who lover. Possibly both, because the way library is created here is (IMHO) well thought through by the author.
