...!?

Making ChuChu dress up as the emperor was a huge weak link. I can suspend a lot of disbelief in watching a good story, but that was a huge leap too far for me. That wasn't simply a stroll through the local park of disbelief suspension, that was humanity walking on the sun level of disbelief suspension.

I'm frankly gobsmacked people criticise the ML for his bland facial expression, then go on about how much they love the 2nd couple. As if the 2nd ML doesn't also have the blandest of facial expressions.

Ah, whatever floats people's boats I guess.

Can others at least agree that the ML cuts a dayum fine figure in his blue soldier's uniform? ;P

Thank you thank you thank you for that. It really helps knowing how someone else navigated this tangled ball of yarn that is chinese. :D

lol lucky you ^^. I thought I'd try learning chinese so I wouldn't have to wait for the subs ... but that was over a year ago. I really should put more effort into it but it just seemed like too big a task so I gave up. ><

Can I ask, if you were to recommend to someone how to start learning chinese, would you recommend focusing on pinyin, or the chinese characters (which simplified or traditional?), learning to speak it before learning the writing, or some other method?

You're up to ep 30 already? I'm only up to 14! (correction 22)

Are you watching the unsubbed ones?

I seem to be the only one who actually likes watching for the main couple and finds the bird-brained 2FL somewhat irritating.

Though, only slightly irritating. I've watched dramas with far FAR more irritating bird-brained females than her, so it's not that bad. ^^

Zhu Zan Jin's previous stint in The Untamed it seems has ruined me for suspecting his character's hidden motives.

Ever since his Immortal of Fate's interactions with Yuchi in the first two episodes I've suspected his Immortal of Fate has an attraction of some sort towards Yuchi and therefore whatever he does that might interfere between Yuchi and the FL is suspect.

For example ... a healing pill that coincidentally means Yuchi shouldn't use his powers for a few weeks? Yeah sure the FL will be ok ... I bet there's some crisis about to occur which could potentially lead to her getting offed if Yuchi doesn't intervene!

...and lo and behold, yep.

Check the screening dates.

Frankly I don't know why we get bothered about tropes. As Mark Twain said 'there are no new ideas'.

'Trope' is simply another way of categorising information.

The above-mentioned, plus - Princess Silver, Jiu Liu Overlord, The Moon Brightens for You, The Romance of Hua Rong, The Legends, The Story of Ming Yan, The Heiress, Sword Dynasty, An Oriental Odyssey, Su Yu, Maiden Holmes.

I'm not arguing they're trope-free, but they do have FLs that have their own personalities that aren't simply stupidly cutesy ditzy.

"...it’s probably only because that drama just hit the right spot for you..." Truth™

Does a tag already exist that perfectly encapsulates describing the stupidly cutesy ditzy FL?

necessitate tragicus

...or, in english, dramatic necessity XD

Aaah, you have little to no understanding of a secret magic that runs, not only throughout this story world, but other very similar. It is both nonsensical and reasoned simultaneously. Both precise and vague. Mysterious and yet also as plain to see as the nose on your face.

And that secret magic is what is known as...

I think I have a good excuse for this one - the snake's eyes are at the side of his skull, not the front, so he has difficulty seeing forwards and discerning the bars from the spaces between.

I'm running with that reason.

XD

As per the "where to watch..." box above on this same page, try WeTV.

I wouldn't describe the FL as ditzy cutesy, so much as naive and shy in some situations.

The 2FL is definitely ditzy cutesy, but that's her character as a bird elf - she's literally bird-brained. Obsessed with beautiful things and chatters away without thought.

To be clear on what I define as ditzy cutesy - Jin Mi in Ashes of Love and Tong Nian in Go Go Squid! (both of which I couldn't stand to the degree I dropped them within the first 10 episodes), and Jin Yan in Legend of Jin Yan.

Lingering subconcious Sephiroth crush?

I keep expecting the Immortal of Fate to whip out the soft sword from his waist at any moment. Doesn't matter that he's a supposedly perfect immortal in this drama, behind that perfect facade he's concocting an evil masterplan to unleash!

Ah, sorry. Thought we were talking more in the 'high fantasy' general area.

thank you

...Maybe MDL could have a page dedicated to title acronyms XD

What's 'LAR'?

:'{ Legend of Fu Yao deserves more love.
