Up to ep 8 so far.

High fantasy romance with good acting and visuals/design, with a good dallop of emotional torture (more in latter episodes not the earlier) to help create some tear-based catharsis in me as the viewer.

This is _EXACTLY_ my kind of story candy.

Big thank you to whoever gave the green light to putting this production together and everyone who participated in making it. Am loving it so far and am looking forward to how it progresses.

It's kinda fishy that the servant is the murderer and not the master. I get the feeling it's just too convenient.

Hmmm. The lead characters portrayed in UtP were great, but the story seemed to be dragged out in the middle third on. However Imperial Coroner doesn't have anything like the mighty 'Wish' of Charlie Zhou Shen as it's musical emblem.

Oh dear. Now that I've mentioned it I can't stop thinking about it. It's no use, I'll have to spend the next hour or two listening to 'Wish' on repeat.

Pffft.

The above in this comment is what happens when you're half asleep and in the middle of a chocolate binge.

I wish I understood why I can't stand Dilraba as an actress. I hear all these good things about "the long ballad" so I start in on the 1st episode, but all that seems to be going through my head is "oh god, it's Dilraba. Ugh she's annoying." It wouldn't be so bad if I understood why I had this reaction. Then I could reason myself out of it. But I don't even know why I have this unreasonable prejudice ... and to such an intensity.

It's weird too because I enjoyed "The Flame's Daughter". It wasn't until I watched '10 Miles of Peach Blossoms', where the whole drawn out Bai Feng Jiu/Dong Hua secondary story irritated me no end.

Maybe that's it. Lingering Trauma from the Bai Feng Jiu torture. :/

Ugh. I'll just have to push myself through it. Maybe her performance in 'the long ballad' will help me recover from Bai Feng Jiu.

Given the genre and their being the main characters that ending is to be expected (and I'm hoping it'll be the case .... MOAR HAPPY ENDINGS!!) But the way the drama is being portrayed keeps it interesting. So far we can see her growing attachment (and possibly his), we understand her status means the chance of her and him being something more is pretty much nil ... but hey, what's this mystery about her mother's death..?

Intriguing...

There's a book? Yay! ...I think I'll finish watching the drama first since I'm already so hooked on it.

Really loving this. So far up to episode 14. Two things in particular make it notably feel different stylistically from other dramas.

(1) The combination of simplicity and sincerity in the emotional intelligence of the two lead characters. It's very endearing. I've been trying to find a word or phrase that adequately sums it up but have not been successful. The secondary character of Jing Yi with his more emotionally knotted character complements the portrayal of the two main characters.

(2) The bumbling progress of plot intrigues. In life it's rarely the case that the more melodramatic experiences are planned and enacted according to that plan. More often than not seemingly nefarious events are usually the outcome of a combination of incompetence and/or misunderstandings. This is reflected well in this drama. On a couple of occasions the conclusions some characters make have actually made me laugh.

Overall the way this drama has been (to my mind at least) well scripted and well portrayed in it's characterisations has been refreshing and enjoyable.

I really hope this quality continues to the end.

I don't suppose I can expect the main characters to retain their emotional simplicity and sincerity until the end. As in real life, life experiences aren't so kind as to leave us unjaded, so I expect these main characters will also experience some torments. It is a drama after all. But hey, as it is, I'm hooked on their story.

Road accident. Neither the book nor the series goes into detail or dwells over his death. It's simply a fact of Ye Xiu and Su Mucheng's joint personal history, the basis for the existence of the Umbrella, and to a lesser extent also a part of their history with Excellent Era.

This kid Zheng Fan Xing must have a bloody good agent, he's had some choice roles so far.

Not robotic. Understated. But in a good way. Sometimes the more understated the acting is, the better the emotion/character is conveyed to me as the audience. I feel it's that way with this actor. He's always left a good impression on me in each of his parts in Untamed, Sweet First Love, and The Moon Brightens For You. That can't always be said for a good portion of lead actors, and he hasn't even been a lead in any of those roles.

I think the word that sums it up is 'sincerity'. The way he portrays his characters always comes across as a sincere portrayal.

Can't wait to see him in a true lead role.

It's a pity you didn't like it. As mentioned I'm not that far in. Only reading the first apocalypse story from the library right now. Was thinking this would make an excellent adaptation to the screen in a series form if the story continues at this level. The suicide thing would likely be problematic though...

Can I ask what it was about the manhwa that led you to drop it? What was it that bored you? Where did you get up to?

I hadn't realised there was a manhwa. Since I'm already reading the novel there's no point to reading the manhwa anyway. ^^
