In ep 7 when Yuan Shen arrived to greet the old lady, CSS got up to leave, take a walk and have a swing ... leaving Cheng Yang and that Wang girl sitting near each other. Plus we're left with a shot of Cheng Yang drooling over the sight of Yuan Shen.

In the next ep Cheng Yang was supposed to have been escorted away by Qiqi, but somehow ended up having been thrown into the water by that same Wang girl.

Is Cheng Yang really as innocent and non-conniving as she seems...?

On the rare occasion I have problems. It's usually internet traffic related. If I lower the resolution during those times it tends to fix the problem.

You need to beware based on your country's viewing restrictions. I've decided to end my wetv subscription because whenever they have a good drama it's usually only available for a short time via their site before they (it seems to me) on sell the drama's broadcasting rights by country to another company and I can no longer find it via their site. So really their subscription is only useful for the one or two things they haven't sold (I can only re-watch 'the King's Avatar so many times ;) ) and dramas newly released ... which end up being free to air elsewhere ... likely via Viki. So I wouldn't recommend.

I very much like the better structure of the iQIY site, but I haven't really been able to get much bang for my buck in series that I actually want to watch, so I've decided to end my subscription with them too.

There's always the option just to subscribe for, perhaps, 1 month out of every 6 or 12 and just catch up on all the series you want to watch in that 1 month rather than keep an ongoing subscription...

... however hot the cloaks would also afford some protection from heat radiation, which would be intense at that short distance.

Though I would think the fur might easily catch fire...

I'm really enjoying it. The characters feel real in their actions, and the actors are doing a great job ... though (puts on some padding for armor) Leo Wu seems to be over-acting a bit ... but on the upside that just makes his character pop a bit more in the viewer's eyes I suppose.

I get what you are saying about the mother, frankly I came to the comments section expecting other viewers to have this reaction to her. However to my mind as a character trying to best prepare her daughter to face the future, her actions and attitude ring true. Even the overly excessive discipline. I'm not saying I approve of her actions ... I'm saying simply that they ring true. Parents can sometimes be hardest on their children. And she's obviously over-correcting. She herself realises it. But if she gives way to her daughter, even for a moment, she knows her daughter will take that inch of give way and take it a mile.

So yeah, for me the character rings true. And I think the actress portraying her is doing a bloody brilliant job. Her microexpressions in the moment are wonderful.

Plus, so far, the dramatic crisis that pop up aren't stupidly inserted like you get in many a drama ... the plot so far has been reasonable ... as in the events and the character's reactions make sense.

Is your tolerance for the negatively dramatic a little low at the moment? Not saying you have low tolerance generally, sometimes we can be dealing with a lot of stress and watching a drama with a lot of clashes can be a little too much. Been there myself, I'm sure we all have. If that is your current situation can I highly suggest 'Chef Hua'. It's basically a food porn series disguised as a light drama in an ancient china setting. Very soothing ^^

Can anyone tell me if this is an original work, or based on a true story, or work of fiction?

Only up to ep 32, but, ok, had to comment, Si Ming as a fisherwife is transcendent. If that actor described this moment as the peak of his acting career I would totally agree without having any knowledge whatsoever of what the rest of his acting career is like. ^^

I see you have 'Eternal Love' (aka ten miles of peach blossoms) on your plan-to-watch list. You really should get around to doing so. It meets all the categories you've mentioned and it's really been one of the stand outs in recent years. The 2nd couple irritate me no end (Bai Feng Jui and Dong Hua) but even so this is a regular re-watch for me. Helps that the music score is good.

...but I seem to be in the minority. It's a slow-burn mythic tale of ancient gods being rebirthed in the bodies of a family of characters in a historical wuxia setting. Be warned : it is a true mythical tale in that it is a tragedy. Don't go into this 45 episode series with an expectation of a happy ever after. Some other viewers have mentioned it was a production of some sort of media school environment as if to explain away its flaws, but since I absolutely loved the story I don't see this as needing to be mentioned to explain away anything quite frankly.

Some one mentioned 'Ever Night'. I highly recommend season 1. Go for season 2 at your own risk. Like 'Eternal Love' it's been one of the mighty pillars of wuxia/cultivation dramas in recent years. The main love story is meh, but the secondary romance beforehand is pretty good. Mainly watch this series for the world building and the occasional A-MAZ-ING fight scenes. It is a world where gods exist, but you don't see them, you're mainly following the cultivation progression of the ML.

Legend of Fu Yao - a world cultivation story which has mini story arcs in it. First, Fu Yao's coming of age in a cultivation sect, then various stories of how she experiences hardship and develops from it in the various world areas once she leaves the sect. Interwoven with her stories of life progression are her interactions with the ML. I like to call them flirt fighting. Great characters, great world building. The tension kinda tapers off before she goes up against the big bad deity at the end. You could tie it off when she and ML finally commit to each other and her back story is completely unveiled (the mining city arc) and leave it at there.

While I appreciate good kissing being depicted as opposed to, say, the bird beak kiss style of Yu Meng Long (much though I <3 him as an actor) , this was somewhat unrealistic to me. Despite her very independent nature, her character was supposed to be one that hadn't had a sweetheart before (that I can recall) ... and then for her very kiss (that I can recall) she's totally taking the initiative and diving in for a full open-mouthed tongue fest.

Yeah. She was supposed to be a 20 yro nearing the end of the marrying age of available women, yet what with her very young round face and occasionally youth-silly character, I found myself wondering if the actress was a 16yro. Actually put in the effort to look up her age to find she's 28.

Was astonished!

But in the end I suppose its more about how the character is written to be rather than necessarily because of the actress.
