I don't know if it was the shifu, but I do remember her being called Xiyun directly by her sect mates. Maybe more than once because I think I recall that gambler idiot once retorted back to her with Xiyun too.

Whether that means they know her real id, I dunno. On the one hand I'd think it plausible that the place that gives her sanctuary would need to know where she hails from. On the other hand, if they knew would they feel trepidation for getting her in danger ... yet they allow her to basically come and go as she pleases. She is the senior who protects the rest, rather than being the precious identity that the rest must protect.

The worries and concerns we allow ourselves to be burdened with are what defines the meaning in our lives, I feel. To have asked hfx/flx to cut himself off from all such burdens is an impossible task to start with. To use this as a way to show he chooses to allow himself be burdened with concern for bfx, and to show he has recognised this in himself, was a great way to show his development of feeling for bfx I think.
