I love that about him, he's not playing around with anyone and seems very straight forward. Thats how he earned…
Hmmm I see where you're coming from. I think the some actors / actresses have definitely gotten some major surgeries (not gonna name names or else ima get flamed). My personal pet peeve is when they get a super point + high nose that's incongruous with the rest of their face. It just looks so strange. K-Pop does this more egregiously tho.
I feel like most C-ent actors / actresses do get some minor work done cuz some things are hard to change with just weight loss alone (speaking from personal experience as I've lost 18 pounds peak to trough).
This is totally me speculating, but I think the older generation of actresses (i.e., before Esther and Bai Lu's rise to popularity) got more major work done like jaw shaving, chin implants etc. since I think C-ent wasn't as crazy competitive with insane schedules / promotions / fan service (or even right now, since they already cemented their positions so they don't have to do as much variety shows, dramas, etc. to remain relevant) and they could have the down time to recover from those surgeries. You can also see the major changes in their photos haha. But once again, this is just me speculating and I could be wrong

hAHA I wish I caught taking a picture hahaha. I think you're right, his style definitely improved and he's less dorky now (but the dorkiness seems to pop out whenever he's excited, which is also cute!)
I saw him in Legend of Shen Li, and he was hilarious as a good-for-nothing prince.
I've seen videos of him getting angry -- the most recent one being his fans following him to where he was eating. But prior to SAL airing, a fan was recording him in an airport lounge, and he looked soooo angry and pointed at her / him with a huuuuge scowl haha. The duality of the man hehe

I’m a big fan 👀 I feel like by not doing the plastic surgeries that people asked of him, he truly looks more differentiated from other actors, and also has a more masculine aura too 👀👀 It’s so hard to get over the show when I see so many Jin Zhao characteristics in the actual actor 👀 Usually I like an actor in a show but I see his “irl” pics / personality and I get an ick. But He Yu 👀👀👀
Hahaha good on him! apparently his old agency wanted him to get some plastic surgery and he refused. He left them…
I feel like this makes all his dances + lives + “cute” pics with Esther even cuter LOL. Man won’t listen to anyone but is like a puppy to promote the show with Esther cuz he trusts her judgment
Not sure how many of you here know about Zhang Ling He’s “theme song”, but based on the TikTok videos I’ve seen, He Yu’s theme song might be Vitamina 😅
If this is in part directed to my comment down below, I didn't mean any harm by it. I was excited to see some…
Girl same, hopefully people weren't referring to my comment below since I've already commented a lot of praises for her but wanted to leave a note of constructive criticism as well.
Part of why I defended Esther so much in my other comments is that it feels like the 'hate' comes from a very misogynistic place. It's very frustrating to see people hate someone for being very cute and girly -- if you look into her interviews, her promotions, and her fan interactions, you can tell she works extremely hard. She also treats her fans extremely well, making sure her 'lives' are entertaining for her fans and cuts the topic off when she thinks fans are getting bored (since 'lives' only have so much time). I think there's a lot of other really cute things she did for her fans (like buying them food, etc. idr tbh). Despite all the hate she has received over the years, she has never played victim, to my knowledge. If that's not being a strong woman, I don't know what is
I agree with this a lot. On my rewatch, I thought YSX had a bit more emotion than I initially thought in the beginning…
Yeah tbh HY's voice threw me for a loop when I first started watching, but I got used to it LOL
Completely agree on the Nanjing arc -- I mentioned it before in my comments, but it probably got buried haha. I really really enjoyed her Nanjing scenes and her crying is so beautiful + mature
Something I noticed while rewatching -- Esther and He Yu complement each other's acting strengths and weaknesses:
As much as an Esther defender I am (since everyone keeps unreasonably hating on her), I think she still needs to work on her microexpressions. This is where He Yu excels in, so it's always a treat to see him in the frame.
That said, He Yu's voice acting falls a bit flat (sometimes literally, sometimes his tone is a bit off, his voice isn't that expressive with emotions and he primarily relies on his microexpressions). Voice acting is where Esther shines! Every word is articulated with clear emotion and nuance; you can hear her voice crack and waiver when she's sad; sometimes I can even hear her swallowing her tears. The first time she called Jin Zhao "Ge (brother)" in the car in Ep. 3, it actually sounded like glass separating them shattering as she broke through his emotional barriers, along with the first time she called him "Zhao Zhao"
So while her Thailand scenes aren't as interesting to "watch" as He Yu's, I switch my senses to focus on listening to her emotions instead. I think if she continued to work on her microexpressions and not be as self conscious about looking gorgeous in every frame (which is hard since her haters love screenshotting unflattering frames of her and C-netz often criticize her for not being pretty enough (shame on them)), she could really break into a whole new level of acting
Now I just put on random shows as background noise while I browse on my laptop
