With Commander Yai, you are right about it. It was even more complicated and there's a battle but it's not really a war because that wasn't the goal of the plot. I'm gonna start the spoiler now. Busabong is not a main character. So your guess that it's Fongkaew is correct but it wasn't her who put on the karma to Commander Yai but it was Commander In (Kamsaen), who is Commander Yai's brother. Among the main characters, the people who were retained were Ming, Fongkaew and Kamsaen who also exists in 2023.

In this era, Fongkaew is Princess Amphan of Seehasingkorn and is already committed to a King in a different kingdom while Commander In (Kamsaen) is a warrior of Seehasingkorn but Commander Yai is higher than him. They are half brothers. Ming is Captain Mun. Jom is a man who appeared underwater and people thinks he is not a human. Seehasingkornian were captured by the Kingdom of the King that was married to Princess Amphan so their goal is to travel home because they were told Princess Amphan can go home as she is sick. Just like in all other eras, Princess Amphan and Commander In are once again committing adultery. Commander Yai didn't know about this at first but Jom already suspected and figured it out as time passed by due to the repeating cycle of their destiny but he didn't told Commander Yai because he didn't want to put Commander In in trouble. But one day, Commanders from the kingdom they serve came to find them and Commander Yai learned that Princess Amphan traveling home to Seehasingkorn was a lie, Commander In lied at Commander Yai about this and concealed the reason why he had to do it. Turns out Princess Amphan was impregnated. Commander Yai had no choice but to lock up Commander In as he had committed a crime. Commander In begged to save them and their child but Commander Yai can't do anything for them because even if he love his brother, he is serving his country and he was really dignified in following their Kingdom in order to gain their freedom so Commander In got mad at Commander Yai. He swore that he will never be tied to Commander Yai again (severing their fate as brothers) and he will never be with the person he love in this life (this is Commander Yai era) and in the next life (Khun Yai era). And that's how Commander Yai's karma began. As you see, Commander In only cursed Commander Yai in two lifetime and that's why Yai Kanthorn was able to be with Jom for the rest of his life.

This one doesn't have an explanation from the novel but it is obvious that this is Jom's first life and the reason Yai is reincarnating is because he was waiting for Jom to come back to him but at the same time, it was the curse that he had to experience and once he overcome it, he'll be with Jom again. Everything that happened to Yai needs to exist in order for the curse to be lifted.

The curse is the plot twist of the novel. I'll spoil but I won't tell few things just in case they'll make S2 but if you're eager, I'll just tell you 😂. Among the main characters (guess who), there's one of them who cursed Yai that led his situation into this but that's because Commander Yai has duties he needs to fulfill, there's plenty of things that happened in Commander Yai's era that took this terrible turn. The suspect is still among them and they will always be tangled until the curse is lifted.

Q1 :

Commander Yai is the starting point (the dude with mustache). The timeline is incorrect in the series, they did it to put a conclusion just in case S2 doesn't happen. Jom's timeline should start with Khun Yai (1927) -Commander Yai (1800s) - Yai Kanthorn (2023) but Jom is meant to be with Yai, there's just something that happened in the "past" that made Jom & Yai suffer through time.

Q2 :
I have answered the first question in Q1. Yai Kanthorn is real, he is the reincarnation of the two other Yai. If ever S2 is possible, I hope they'd fix the timeline. But anyway, that ending was perfectly accurate from the novel. That was how Yai & Jom reunited.

Q3:
He will be with 2023 Yai. There's a curse binded to them which is why it took reincarnation to bring them together. Khun Yai died all alone waiting for Jom, that was his ending, that was the consequence of their curse.

Yai Kanthorn explanation:
Yai is the son of the eldest daughter of Khun Lek but was adopted by the youngest daughter due to his illness when he was young. He grew up not knowing about Jom but he felt like there's something wrong with him and he'd feel it the most when he gets into relationship. Later, he found a magazine that was shown by his mother. His mom, Uaem Duaen is Khun Yai's favorite niece. Khun Yai made Uaem Duaen promise that she'd take care of the small house and find Jom for him in exchange that he'd give her all of his wealth. Uaem Duaen found Jom and Yai Kanthorn started remembering Jom through dreams after he saw Jom's picture via magazine. Yai remembered because Commander Yai and Jom made a promise to never forget each other again if they ever separate in this life and meet in the next (we follow Jom's timeline). He immediately returned to Thailand when he finally recalled Jom and the last scene we saw in EP12 was the first time they officially met.

This was explained in the novel. Jom was really mad when he found out that Fongkaew & Kamsaen was also together in this life. He just recently experienced the heartbreak and felt like Fongkaew & Kamsaen were Ohm & Kaimook, as he was still lost in his own mind, he told Mr. Robert, the unfortunate thing is he didn't know what was the consequence as this is not the era he belong. When he found out what happened to Fongkaew, he immediately apologized and offered a hand to help Fongkaew if needed.

In a karmic thread relationship explanation, Jom was meant to hurt Fongkaew & Kamsaen and so Ohm & Kaimook cheating on Jom will become his karma. It's a cycle they cannot avoid.
