When things get hard and confusing, and you feel lost just come back home. Because when everything around you is changing, your friends and family are the only constants in your life. And constants are comforting.

On Welcome to Samdal-ri Jan 6, 2024
Remember how Samdal said, “ it’s only an opportunity if you’re ready, else it’s a risk”? We will soon get to see how she was right after all and her apprentice will realize that her mentor wasn’t robbing her off an opportunity, but protecting her instead. That’s why she challenged her former mentee to take her project/concept and see if she can handle it on her own. Samdal already tried publishing her side of the story, but nobody cared to listen, defamation lawsuit might also further establish her as a bully, since her mentee was ‘rescued’ from committing suicide by cops/ public and the video evidence is against her. In this case, challenging the mentee to prove her point is the best way to deal with the situation. Moreover, I think she genuinely wants her mentee to realize her mistake. There’s a saying, “don’t take revenge, but make them realize”. Revenge is a burden that will weigh you down too and what Samdal needs right now is healing, and understanding that she doesn’t have to face it all alone, it’s okay to rely on her loved ones. The way this drama highlights life lessons in such a subtle and beautiful manner has all my heart.

What are you talking about?
How is 7 years of age gap uncomfortable pairing though? It’s pretty common.

I hope it goes to a platform that promotes it well. They did dirty with The Worst of Evil and Welcome to Samdalri. JCW is a great actor. Surprised that he didn’t receive any awards for his performance in either shows this year, but again award shows care more about popularity than performance.

I took a look at the awards, and I see APAN Star and Asia Artist....those are popularity awards and less prestige-based.…
I don’t know much about k-drama awards. Saw a lot of posts about this one recently, and it’s an okay drama I guess, but there were so many better ones so I got confused. Thanks for letting me know. Is Baeksang the most prestigious one?

Exactly, they should just use those accounts to give good ratings and promote their fav shows. Why spread hate…
I don’t go around posting hate comments and and I know fantasy is not my fav genre (my demon is a 7 for me, that was probably a rating error, just different taste) and I don’t judge people for loving it. To each their own. Yes, new to my drama list, but this is my only account, unlike some people with multiple burner accounts just to spread hate. New account is not a problem showing up in the page of a show you don’t even watch just to spread negativity is.

People making new MDL accounts just to rate this drama low and leave hate comments really needs to get a job 😂
Exactly, they should just use those accounts to give good ratings and promote their fav shows. Why spread hate here? 🙄

It bothers me that while she had countless relationships during their separation, he didn't. 8 years went by,…
Options are limited in a small town. Besides, different people have different coping mechanisms and we have already seen that they have different personalities. She wanted to move on, he wanted to hold on. Just different choices, but neither is wrong.
On Welcome to Samdal-ri Dec 31, 2023
Forced breakups are the hardest move on from. If they’d broken up because either of them fell out of love, or cause it came in the way of their ambition then it’d have been easier. From what I have seen some resentment towards your ex helps, but how can you get over them when neither of you were at fault and the break up was forced upon? Sure you can bury it deep within your heart and try to drown yourself in work or dates, but when you face the past again, all the memories come rushing back, and you can’t help but wonder ‘what if…?’ By late 30s you’d have met many people, seen the hardships and loneliness, and learned to value real relationship. Especially if you are single. You may pretend that you don’t care, you may act mature, but deep down you long for love more than ever and this drama is portraying that so well.

I loved 25-21 though the ending isn’t for everyone. Hospital playlist also shows strong friendship.

Ok I absolutely loved this drama up until now but I don't think I do anymore. First of all, I hate how the drama…
I don’t think she’s portrayed as a villain anywhere. This drama is as realistic as it gets. I have been living abroad for 7 years. Barely managed to visit home couple of times, but lately I’ve realized that it’s easy to get lost in work and overlook the people that matter to you the most. We gotta make time regardless. And I am glad that YP pointed that to her and that doesn’t make SD a villain, just that we realize some things late, happens to the best of us. Also, no where did I feel that YP cared for her mom cause of SD. Yeah, people around him think that way, but writers have made it pretty clear to the audience that YP and Mom share a special relationship through their multiple interaction. The whole point of the scene where two Mijas discuss how their kids will have two moms (and how they don’t go the childhood engagement route for their kids like other cliche stories) is to show how important they both were to eachother's kids. And same thing for SD’s mom too. Despite the breakup and harsh treatment from YP’s dad, she didn’t let her relationship with YP get sour. She’s been taking care of YP too by bringing sea food, asking him to stay away from SD so he doesn’t get hurt (not just her daughter). From what I’ve seen, this relationship goes both ways and it’s not because of SD. In fact, I think it’s because of his mom. She loves YP cause he is her best friend's son, she sees her best friend in him and he loves her cause she’s always been a second mom to him. After all, how could he hate someone his mom would’ve (or probably did) protected with her life? The school flashback where YP says his mom will protect her mom also hints us about the same.

I am in love with the story and cinematography. Also, acting of each cast member is top notch.
I have been doing it, but well you need a certain level of maturity to understand this story. I guess slice of life genre is more of an acquired taste. Most k-drama fans are teenagers who love bad boys and steamy scenes.

I think people around him think he’s doing it cause she is Samdal’s mom, but they will probably reveal that he did it cause she is like his mom later. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have shown two Mijas talking about how their kids will have not one but two moms. They also showed what SD’s mom means to him when he said his mom will save her mom if she dives deep during their school flashback. We also saw him bicker with SD’s mom about who’d she choose between him and SD. Nowhere did I feel that YP’s care for mom was because of SD. From YP’s perspective it’s always been a mother-son bond.

So disappointed at Netflix for not promoting this show properly. But, glad that it’s getting good ratings in Korea and is no. 1 in it’s slot.
