I do not think Kelvin killed Lalit, but still, the intention was to stop Lalit by any means possible and Kelvin…
Yes, I agree with you. Very sad. The raw and cold way he behaved after striking Lalit proves that he is a psychopath. I just hope the production does not try to gloss over these actions in the future simply so that they can end up together in the finale.

Yes a danmei
Please remember that the novel is very different from the drama. There are no crimes such as Lalit’s in the novel. In the book, redemption — at least up to the point I have read — is plausible. But in the drama, it is not.

Title Yesterday Spoiler
Unfortunately, Episode 4 became a clear dividing line between what is redeemable and what is not. If Kelvin truly killed Lalit, Veir’s friend — and, honestly, the cruelty and the evident signs of the blow to the head strongly suggest that he did — then for me, that is the end. He is a murderer, a psychopath, and beyond any possibility of forgiveness, regardless of his motives or how he became so despicable.

Once again, the drama fails in this regard. Up to this point, it has not clearly developed Kelvin’s past or the traumas within his family that might help us understand how he turned into such a monster. Without that foundation, any attempt at future redemption feels hollow and unearned.

I am still reading the novel, and the story there is far clearer and far more compelling than the adaptation. In the book, Kelvin is indeed obsessed with power — but he is equally obsessed with Veir. The captivity scenes are far more intense and dramatically engaging. Despite the cruelty with which Kelvin treats Veir, he also seduces him in an almost inescapable way, to the point that Veir becomes both a fearful hostage and someone obsessively drawn to Kelvin. Love and hate walk side by side, intertwined in a disturbingly captivating dynamic.

There is no murder of a friend or degradation of Veir at the hands of criminals orchestrated by Kelvin, as portrayed in Episode 4 of the drama.

In short, redemption still feels possible in the novel, and I find myself rooting for it. In the drama, however, I see no plausible path toward that outcome — which is truly unfortunate.

That said, I cannot fail to praise Peat’s outstanding performance as the despicable Kelvin.

So you're telling me that danmei is 21 years old!? Damn it doesn't have the vibe unlike revenged love. I hope…
He is easily manipulated because Kelvin uses him to acquire the inheritance. But his interest in him is obsessive. He knows that Vier uses his body and beauty to seduce businessmen for his father. Perhaps that's why he lets Vier be sexually abused by his brother's gang. Despite Kelvin letting this happen and using him for his own benefit, he feels passion for him. That's in the book, of course.

Title Yesterday Spoiler
Yesterday continues to surprise us.

As the “good reader” I try to be — hahaha… far from it, actually — I always look for the original novel whenever a drama leaves me intrigued. With Yesterday, it could not be any different.

The storyline is based on Feng Nong’s 2005 novel. Yes, 2005. I was genuinely surprised by how long ago it was written. It is interesting to reflect that, at such a distant time, someone was already willing to write something so dark and emotionally heavy for that period.

I must confess that I found the writing style rather simple and direct, with short episodes that are easy and quick to absorb. It is very different from the works of Meatbun (Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou), who is remarkable for her extraordinary detail and intricate, layered storytelling.

Still, it is quite engaging. Especially with the drama currently airing, knowing certain developments in advance actually helps with comprehension. Personally, I do not mind spoilers, but if you prefer to be surprised, you may want to stop reading here.

The drama is not entirely faithful to the book. To begin with, in the novel the eldest son corresponds to Kelvin, whereas in the drama he is portrayed as the younger son. Additionally, all the characters’ names have been changed. However, since the core structure of the story remains intact, it is not difficult to identify who is who.

In the novel, Veir falls deeply in love with Kelvin and does everything in his power to ensure that Kelvin becomes the heir to the family. He succeeds after considerable struggle, only to discover — to his profound disappointment — that Kelvin is far from the innocent and upright young man he believed him to be. Kelvin acts with deliberate calculation at every turn, and although Veir’s feelings for him are sincere, he is ultimately nothing more than a spoiled and manipulable rich boy in Kelvin’s hands.

In the book, Veir receives the scar on his face after being ambushed by Ken and his men. He suffers a brutal gang assault and is left permanently marked. All of this occurs with Kelvin’s knowledge, and Kelvin ultimately exploits the situation to consolidate his power and secure the family inheritance. Later, once the physical wounds of the assault have barely healed, Veir uncovers the truth about the man he loved — a master manipulator.

I believe we may see these developments in the next episode. However, this is the novel’s version; the drama adaptation may choose a different path.

As for redemption, in my view it is still very far from being achieved.

In the meantime, I will continue reading — especially since the next episode of the drama will only air on the 23rd. The wait feels endless.

Title To My Shore
Hi everyone!!!!

I’m so happy!
Everything I wanted actually happened… so of course, it’s nothing but happiness!

For me, this is one of the most beautiful BLs in recent times. Wow! I’m absolutely ecstatic!

I just wanted to share my happiness with all of you.
I’ll write a proper review later, after the effect of my beer wears off… hahahahaha!

Yes, I couldn’t let this memorable ending pass without celebrating!
I loved it… loved it and LOVED it!!!

It was a great pleasure to follow this journey with all of you!

Thank you, I loved knowing that. What a joy. I know I may be going against a large part of the fandom, but I want them together… together and happy.

I love this show.

I can’t believe we only have one episode left.

I know I’ve already said this, but I can’t help myself—I truly adore these two.

What an incredible chemistry.

For me, this is the most touching BL I’ve ever watched. And honestly, that doesn’t surprise my heart at all. Anyone like me, who loves Meatbun’s novels—especially because of the complex, suffering characters she creates—could only relate to and fall in love with Fan Xiao and You Shulang.

I want more. I absolutely love it.

Such a beautiful episode. 🥹😥💔

My last remaining hope is that, in this latest act of manipulation, Fan Xiao is acting with genuinely good intentions. In today’s episode, I can’t recall the exact moment, but he told Shulang that he would soon do something Shulang truly wanted.

And what Shulang wants more than anything is painfully clear: to move forward with his research work and to stay away from Fan Xiao.

So I can’t help but wonder—could this be what lies behind this macabre plan? Is it possible that, beneath all the cruelty and control, there is an attempt to give Shulang the freedom he desperately longs for?

Honestly, I hope this leads to something good for Shulang. His suffering has reached a point dangerously close to total collapse, both emotionally and psychologically.

I will do everything I can to finish the novel before the final episode airs. I am beyond impacted… completely overwhelmed.

Since no one has warned you, I will: the novel is beautifully written, but the pain from it is even worse because…
Oh my God!
Yes, I’m one of those people who cry while reading books. The characters’ pain feels even more tangible to me. So… here I go, ready to suffer even more.
Thank you for the warning.

I’ve been reading the comments here, but I still don’t feel satisfied… Shu Lang, my beautiful one, what kind of pain is this? Please, pull yourself together.

I became so anxious that I decided to read the novel. Thanks to a blessed soul here on MDL, I managed to get the book in English, and with excellent quality.

Unfortunately, I’m still behind and haven’t reached this point in the story yet. Even so, I can say that the adaptation is perfect and follows the novel almost word for word. I’m absolutely loving that.

I remain anxious, not knowing what awaits me, especially after today’s episode. Shu Lang is deeply hurt, but he still loves him, and that was made very clear in several moments of the episode. When the man held his hand and he pushed him away in disgust, everything became crystal clear.

For me, before we reach an even more painful situation, Fan Xiao needs to set Shu Lang free. Only then can I believe in a second chance.

And how I want that… I continue to love them both equally. Ugh. I know… I’m on the edge of the box.

Wow! I’m truly shaken… what an episode!
I am undoubtedly surprised, and also very afraid that China might deprive us of the continuation of this great BL.

Today’s episode was extremely intense. The dialogues and events exceeded all expectations. Psychological coercion, obsession, abuse, and manipulation—everything that is most toxic in a pathological love was laid bare.

I adore the two of them together, but after today, I feel that Fan Xiao has gone far too far. I fear that some actions may be irreversible. Poor, beautiful, gentle Shu Lang… what must have been going through his mind when he sadly gave in to Fan Xiao’s pressure?

Shocking, tense… yet brilliant!

May the next episodes come soon!

You are right in your place to not admire her but the last line is where you are wrong"He is far too good…
“To be honest, I regretted that sentence as soon as I posted the comment. I am not in the habit of following fandoms, nor of being aggressive when expressing my thoughts about anyone, whether they are actors or not. Unfortunately, I have the bad habit of becoming attached to certain actors based on the way they treat their audience, or even more, on how they choose to approach their fans.
For that reason, this actress has never appealed to me, ever since her work in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay. Versatility, to me, is not necessarily synonymous with good acting.

In any case, thank you very much for your reply and for making me reflect on how to express my feelings and thoughts more carefully in the future."

Thank you.

Be strong! Got more nasty comments than you when commenting about no chemistry, bad couple paired by Kdirectors…
Thank you very much for your understanding. In fact, your words are able to express my feelings far better than I managed to do. Yes, it may not seem so at first, but the chemistry between the couples is one of the greatest driving forces behind a drama’s success. You are absolutely right. I am truly grateful.”
