I think the concept was feng ren made a deal that he would help to make sure po xiao lives on and feng ren will die willingly in his place but as a repay he will use the sutra for the betterment of the world

the story of the dead friend getting muedered was revealed cause no grass was growing on his grave for one year. No plant will grow on poisonous soil. But there is a scene that po xiang taking out grass from feng ren rave. That's how he suspected that if feng ren was actually poisoned then why did grass grow on his grave?

About the body intact part I'm also a bit confused. Po xiang got blind. He did not see what happened in the fight. He got blind in the fight so it's not entirely impossible for feng ren to be poisoned also if u see it that way

Feng ren wasn't a wanted men. I think if po xiang never realised that the body lying in the grave wasn't of fenr ren he would never reveal that he is alive. because po xiang figured it out that's why he chose to reveal himself. Cause now knows feng ren is alive anyways. Showing up or not wouldn't make a difference
