Too much expectation, greatly disappointed
After waiting for a long time to watch a female warrior drama and the author is Qian Shan Cha Ke herself, expectation was sky high. The story of an identity swapped female general , revenge and fight to reclaim her title was indeed promising. The trailer and the poster also gave good impression but the whole concept of a female warrior got lost in the way of "paving for Commander Xiao's trust". We only get a glimpse of the past mighty general Feihong. The current he yan unfortunately cannot meet the unmatched general on the battlefield in my eyes. The whole concept got lost somewhere in the name of romance which was also not anything that can spark fire. The fl and her stepbrother's visible size differance and no one ever questioned hoe general feihong got 5 inches tall and buffer in a night is concerning. He rufei is told to have cognitive problem and he suddenly got cured By Xu jingfu's magic potion?! and the fact that he was staying at Yunhua temple with the identity of he yan meaning Rufei should've disguised as a women but we never see him doing that. Xu Jingfu was portrayed as a cunning man , there were so many choices and yet he kept the dumbest imposter general by his side.
The fl is mighty only in the past. In the present unfortunately she carry the temperament of a general. This drama should've been sold as a love story. The main problem people are disappointed is because if you are selling a hardcore , revenge filled women centric story then you better deliver it. There were a lot of questionable points throughout the story but all this could've been overlooked if we got a good closure. But wtf happened at last few episodes?
Chu zhao was a gentle character from the beginning who called out his own actions , he didn't wanted to sugarcoat his action in the name of anything else. And what they made of it?? A lovesick fool who abused his power, broke trust of his allies. A character who respected he yan from the beginning suddenly wants to trap her cause he can't see her unite with her lover. Looks like writers of different minds got together to write this story and combined it together without reviewing. The emperor suddenly switching back forth from villain to a matchmaker didn't make any sense. His worry for consolidating military power is valid but then he is suddenly bestowing them marriage without any condition because they won a war?
let's talk about goodside. I liked the song and Cheng lei. The ml looked really good as a general. If anyone is his diehard fan you can watch it. If you want a bubbly romance disguised in a action/ warrior-ish drama you can watch it
but there are better things out there and this one is certainly no one of it

It's a total packed psychology thrillerWhy you should watch this drama??

Acting: Let's talk about pei su. as someone who has already read the novel zhang xingcheng embodied the role of fei du and gave it life. Most of the time book readers are never satisfied with live adaptation but you'll never catch someone telling that the potrayal of fei du (pei su in the drama) was anything less than perfection. And if I start to write about how damn pretty this guys looked while suffering this review wil not end.
From luo wenzhuo to tao ran to lao qiao toevery small actor portrayed the anguish, pain, fear, confusion so beautifully that you'll wonder damn china can really make some good sht
And do I need to talk about the songs?? those lyrics stabbed my hearts too much that I will cry everytime when I listenTT
This drama is adapted from silent reading also known as mo du by preist. This is peak of drama. If it wasn't censored then it would've broken every record possible. It's a kind of show that you watch and know that it's gonna be with you for a long long time

A stable homosexual couple in this toxic world
The first thing that took my attention was the nature of the lead's relationship. Hajime and Kai both posses opposite personalities but they work together to balance their relationship. They are not afraid of their sexual orientation and delicately balances the line between their choice and the society's perception. From the very beginning the lead's have established their viewpoint on society yet also accepts the reality. Another part that I really appreciate is that Hajime and Kai communicate with each other. Even if they have different opinion on a matter they talk it out and respect each other. It's not everyday you will stumble upon a couple like this. I liked how they showed different types of flawed marriages. The problem is not in the gender but in your intention . Anna was a charm throughout the whole show who made their lives more vibrant. The ending with Anna's father was also satisfactory. Painting a father as a villain would've too cliche. Anna's father was a victim of child abuse and couldn't break the generational truma. I n the end he realized his problem but at the same time It's not possible for a man to change overnight so Anna living with them was really the best choiceNow the problem, Anna's mother died without any explanation. The cause wasn't even revealed. Though her death was foreshadowed, a death without any explanation is confusing. Another thing which is my personal opinion is that I really wanted to know Hajime and Kai's past. Based on Hajime's introverted personality I was really intrigued to know how they got together and managed to build such a stable home
I got out of a major drama slump because of this show. Works like this are neglected because it's bl and bl community neglect it cause it doesn't have the spice they want. All I want to say it this show is larger than a bl genre. I live for shows like this. I usually don't write reviews but someone should, so I took the liberty :)

A drama wrapped in meancholy
This was an angsty drama from start to finish. For me personally Wen yifan was like that one tragic xianxia character that suffers all her life with no way out. Name any abuse she has suffered it and yet bravely faced the reality and went for the so called life. She was an experience. The whole story is presented so brilliantly that I'm afraid this is the new standard. From story to acting to casting you can really feel the dedication of this team. The count of days at the beggining of each episodes to how they wrapped each and every single details of the drama makes it untouchable.I need to write a whole paragraph on sang yan. One fact that sets him apart from any other ML is that he never intruded on yifan's past. No matter how much he loved he respected her private matters, this she didn't wanted to say. That doesn't happen a lot even in drama let alone real life. He was there for her in silent. He never crossed some lines which made my respect for this character go higher than mount everest. Yifan needed to make peace with her own past and sang yan was the pillar she could rely on whenever she needed. Someone like sang yan can only be in real life when one grows up in a family of love and understanding.
Be the Sang Yan of your own life till you find one. With this I'm wrapping my humble opinion

Great acting overshadows underwhelming plot
The plot was aiming too high by including international conflicts. A ambassador trying to ease the tension between two koreas, trying to stop a war and on top of that investigating murder of her own husbandThis drama is a political action thriller with romance on the side well at the second half it became main genre imo. The portrayal of Seo mun ju was a cold dethatched yet kind women but I really can't comprehend my mind around how she became so lovesick for a single man . She loved her husband there's no doubt if Park sainho and her had enough time I would've believed it's possible but some sexual tension and his devotion to her cannot suddenly make a seasoned national representative like her who has also been married into a political family for a long time behave like that. I liked their chemistry yess but that didn;t make sense you know.
The drama matched my expectation in thriller The mystery about stella young and all little schems were giving adrenaline rush. wish we could've seen more of the characters to justify the choices they made. with the budget they had they could've probably make a more in depth drama. Like Munju's husband loved her yet had a child out of wedlock yet never loved the child's mother but came every week to visit his son but didn't left a single penny for him and also that mistress happens to be stella young's right had man! I mean did I miss some part or is this a very big coincidence? Munju was grieving till the end for her unborn child but an explanation never came nor did it had an impact in the story
MY most favorite character is the antagonist of the drama. She played the heck out of it. When she was talking to the mistress about three important things in a women's life: house, child and a husband. She comforted her by saying she lost the least imp one. a husband. I knew this one is no simple character. she is the one controlling everyone like a puppet and remained cold blooded till the end. Her art of manipulation such a brilliant character, she fooled everyone and I mean Everyone. That's a lady you don't mess with. Using US's resource to destroy USA, only she will dare. It's been a long time I came across a character a like her. And that's what I would like to call Badass
At the end of my opinion I would say Kdrama has been sucking down a lot lately but this one was good. Am I saying it's a masterpiece? no but it's a very well made one. Something you would appreciate even if you don't like it. That's all
