The drama actually deviated from the novel quite a bit in the first episodes itself by setting up XZ against Rufei.…
Agreed, it helps a lot to see it as a different story, more like a reference for things that are not properly explained in the drama, and just enjoy the ride

I am enjoying him as a villain, especially that I recently saw him as a goofy character in Youthful Glory so I love the versatility. Plus love the voice of this actor and the fact that he's always dubbing himself. But yeah, homie has it coming
I kinda wish they had an express package for their express package, like here take my money, just let me see all the eps cause this waiting can't be good for my health......

Yes! I enjoyed his character a lot in the novel and it is quite a non standard creative choice to combine 2 characters into one, still not sure how I feel about it. Agreed about the XJ, he is way more stern and savage in the novel, but I'm happy with CL's portrayal too so can't complain on this 😁 but yes, I too got exactly what I pictured for them while reading the novel and hopefully they both get more recognition after this and work together again 🙏

Same. I'm able to fill in the blanks only cause I've read the novel. But the reactions of the non-novel readers are all over the place, which is to be expected tbh. If I weren't a fan of the leads maybe I'd skip this as well, because I it took me half of the drama to get used to the AI face, the OST sounds literally like hundreds other historical dramas and the editing is choppy, but idk, my expectations sunk down a lot ever since I heard about the scandal surrounding the supporting cast so I thought this will be shelved indefinitely so I'm just happy we get at least something. This will get a high rating from me purely for the main leads cause they keep me going.

Yes, the prolonged misunderstanding is one of my most hated tropes, it always dilutes the interest for the drama. It's a whole conspiracy atp and they need their attention on that., not the misunderstanding fr. I hope XJ will manage to land a few punches to the guy, like I don't hate him, but he's taking a lot of screentime....
Guys, I understand the expectations when a novel is adapted, but it’s still an adaptation — some changes are inevitable. I read the novel too, but expecting the production to follow it 100% is only setting ourselves up for disappointment. What pains me more is the discontinuity and lack of context, which makes it really hard for viewers who haven’t read the novel to piece things together and connect with the story ( particularly the FL), especially in the first episodes. Still enjoying this drama A LOT

Hope you'll enjoy it if you decide to watch it 🫶 Fair warning, short length dramas due to their length and budget are a bit more condensed and fast paced, so I usually have lower expectations that full length big budget ones. Even so, this one has a pretty sharp directing and I loved it, especially the first half.

Agreed. Even in today's episode ( 23 I think) once he got over his anger he was already thinking in the correct direction. So I expect them to sort it out very soon. She doesn't know what happened but suspects the real He Rufei, she just needs proof. Lmao, I mean dude's a great jealousy plot device but he's pretty delulu about it

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the short length dramas genre but Qingchuan's Veil of Vengeance is a pretty good one with a strong female lead. I'm certain the fellow viewers will have tons of recommendations but it's the first that came to mind.
