They should've included this information. I find it hard to believe that a woman who is a product of her era could be this progressive. MingLan, from The Story of MingLan, is also a transmigrated character in the novel. But they left that out of the drama. To the drama's credit, MingLan never felt like a Mary Sue.

That's such a straw man. No one is rooting for HZ to suffer more. No one is saying she's not talented and resourceful. We're simply noticing some sloppy writing. Suppose you're cool with a Mary Sue character and bad writing, great. But some of us don't like it.

I'm fine with suspending my disbelief when it makes sense. I'm not fine with sloppy writing that relies on plot contrivance. We generally root for characters because they're imperfect and relatable. So far, HZ is Rey from Star Wars. Everything she touches turns into gold. Now she's defeating assassins because why not? 😆

What I love about The Story of Ming Lan is that although she was a badass in her own right, she never felt like a Mary Sue. I hope, HZ doesn't go too far deep into Mary Sue territory. But today, she officially crossed the border. lol

It doesn't matter if it's not reality. Every work of fiction needs to adhere with its own internal logic or reality. The ML is a highly trained soldier. So, his almost super human reaction time makes sense. If you can't see the ridiculousness of that scene, then I can't help you.

She managed to ride her horse through a group of trained assassins, who only intercepted her at the very end, and arrived precisely where a rock avalanche trap was set. This is plot contrivance at its finest. This scenario stretches believability. Under normal circumstances, she would have been killed. I love this drama. But that scene was pure bullsh*t. lol

Ok, Hua Zhi has officially entered Mary Sue territory. I had to roll my eyes when she single-handedly defeated more than a dozen highly trained assassins because the plot demanded it. Good lord, writers. You can write a strong female character without turning her into a Mary Sue. Also, as a smart character, what she did was extremely dumb. Under normal circumstances, she should've been killed. But you can't kill a Mary Sue that easily.

I find Xiao's love story with Zhao Ling sad and tragic. Xiao Yao and Yue Ru is fun.
