Being a female-centric show. I think that's the point. Most of the men are either useless or evil.

Damn, the novels are almost always better than their TV adaptation counterparts.

I'm on ep 21 and he's been pretty much irrelevant. He's accepted the fact that he's been friendzoned. He's barely around.

I'm not disputing this history. But Reality is always a lot more complicated. It's also true that not all men were evil abusers and rapists. Many cherished their wives and protected their children. That's also a fact.

They took the few good ones out of the picture early to mostly highlight the evil rapists and abusers. Don't get me wrong, I still love the show. But find this angle a bit annoying.

The same show you are watching. Almost every single husband in this show is useless or evil. I think they exiled some of the few good ones because it's the show's mission to mostly portray evil husbands oppressing wives.

My only issue with this drama is how it portrays almost all the men/husbands as useless or evil. Come on, life is more complicated than this. It's possible to tell a story that uplifts women without vilifying almost all men.

She's doing it to help the ML?

I doubt it. That would go against her personality and her grandma's last wish. I might be wrong, but I think if they break up, she won't the the one who initiates it.

Well said. It's important to remember that our modern views on morality do not apply to these shows.

This is my only issue with the show. They basically made all the husbands useless or evil.

Some dramas would've chosen cheap tension/angst over good writing. HZ's reaction is totally in lined with her personality. So, her suppressing her anger (there was some) to approach this rationally makes perfect sense.

I thought HZ would be mad at GYX for a few days. However, on two occasions, she managed to contain her anger when confronting GYX about his deception, choosing to handle the matter rationally instead. I like the way this was handled. Other dramas, for the sake of angst, would've turned HZ into an overly emotional idiot.

"The Story of Ming Lan" explores this dynamic a lot. It's a great drama.
