Tee the actor you are..πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» His performance in the closet scene was amazing! But damn his backstory is so dark. His step father disgusts me so much.. I cannot believe he walks around free..

A lot of gmmtv stories are actually original and the novels are made later. They are not always adapting existing…
I've watched a lot of their series, but I would say that the quality varies. It's not like all their non bls are always of high quality and their bls of standard or bad. I've seen levels in both genres. A bl of huge budget, no they haven't had that yet it's true, but bls of good quality in general they do.

For me, NLMG was good visually and had a beautiful cinematography, admittedly it was the one series P'Jojo wished he did some things different. He said that he regretted making them students, cause that limited him on how dark he could go and that he didn't do the best he could while filming the series, cause he had some problems back then, but for me it looked like a good production overall.. I still think that if it was produced now it would have more budget and would turn out better.

As for "Midnight Museum", having someone of Tor's calibre and reputation star in their series was a big deal, and it makes sense that money would be invested in a show where he was the main lead, especially, since he only agreed to the role because Gun wanted to work with him. They would have to put more effort for a project like that to look good. Even in "the gifted", which was one of their best series, they relied more on clever direction instead of trying for special effects, despite the supernatural aspect of the series.

Personally, I feel the shift, because they are slowly trying some genres on bls they didn't before, or blend different elements with romance together, maybe testing the waters to see what could work or just for variety reasons; but again I have nothing against a company having a certain style. It's their thing, and a lot of people still enjoy this genre. Having said that, investing on a few more diverse storylines, is more than welcome for me. Their most unconventional shows, usually end up in my top favourites.

I'm not sure on which period you are referring to, but a lot of their shows in the past were pure rom coms or youth love romance as well even before SOTUS. I don't know for their very early days, but around 2015-2016 their shows were mostly those types of genres with a few more dramatic ones added in the mix, so they haven't really changed that much from that aspect. The one thing that has actually changed, is that they don't make any series with older actors in lead roles. They used to have a few of them here and there, but they won't invest on something like that nowadays, which I get, considering the demographic targeting and the number of young actors they are employing now.

It's not about me thinking they are doing the best they can. I'm just making some observations without marking things as black and white. I'm not any company's whorshipper, cause all of them have their pros and cons, but I can't judge them all under the same scope or have non practical and unrealistic expectations, when they don't follow the same logic in the way they are working. It makes no sense to me, at least..😌

Again, they didn't use what the writer wrote in THK, cause the writing took place after the script. It's an independent process that happens much later after the approval of the script and the proceeding of the filming, with the purpose of promoting the series. How could they have used any reference from a book that didn't exist in the first place? It's the reason, most of those novels usually have many differences from their respective series.

I'd say, gmmtv's shows are varying in quality regardless of the genre. You'll both find shows of good and average quality. Investing on light-hearted school/uni stories is no brainer, since they have been their most profitable ones, but they have slowly started to experiment with some new genres as well. A lot of people, though, do find joy in the non-dramatic and fluffy stories with happy ending and gmmtv will give them that. I don't see a problem with a company having their own identity, personally. If I'm looking for something darker, I simply check other companies that specialise on that genre.

When NLMG was airing, gmmtv wasn't as big as it is now. If it were to air now, especially with Pond and Phuwin's current popularity in Thailand and with them both being brand ambassadors, they would have gathered a lot of sponsors regardless of the genre itself. The new OffGun show, admittedly is aiming on a specific type of audience. It's not a series that will gather a wide range of people, due to its triggering nature. Even people who like darker stories, might not necessarily choose to watch something like that. But usually they'll put money on the OffGun shows anyway. "Not me" was another story, though.. As for the result, it will be determined by the direction, the production house in charge and the platform they intend to broadcast it at.

It's true, noone tells them to produce that amount of series, but they still do need to produce much more series than average, cause their series are broadcasted on tv first and tv-channels have different needs from online platforms. They can survive on reruns for a while, but they do need new material if they hope to be competitive at all, especially nowadays. And again they do have to utilise all of the actors they manage somehow and keep them visible to make sure they have enough resources to invest on them in the future. It's business after all and every business runs on money..

From my experience high quality shows produced by other companies will always create a buzz. If you are referring to smaller companies producing good series, but not getting recognition, well that's a universal phenomenon. It's only natural for a bigger company to attract more attention, than a smaller one. As for last year, it was a one time thing I assume. They don't constantly ask for fans to submit ideas. And it's not the first time I hear of a contest like that being held if I'm honest..πŸ€” Sometimes production companies do organise events like that for engagement reasons. Gmmtv, admittedly, is by no means perfect; there’s always room for improvement. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea, which is fine. 😌

A lot of gmmtv stories are actually original and the novels are made later. They are not always adapting existing…
"The Heart killers" script was actually written before the novel and like every other of P'Jojo's works, it was an original idea. "Moonlight Chicken" as well. It's not as rare. There are both novel adaptations (JittiRain's most of the times) and original ideas getting developed after the pilot.

The remakes are not a new thing. They've had quite a few shows like that over the years.

Their target audience is young people, so it makes sense for them to choose more series like that. Each company has their demographic and their own style, just like BoC usually invests on darker dramas.

I do remember the contest, but it wasn't for free. They gave money as a reward to the winners, but I don't remember the amount..πŸ€” I'm sure it wasn't a crazy number, but there was money involved..πŸ˜…

They invest on quantity, cause they have a deal with GMM25 channel, so they got to produce many series in a certain time frame to fill the slots for the tv channel. They don't just produce content for platforms. It's a different kind of logic that applies in that case, plus they have triple the amount of actors under their management, so they have to utilise them somehow and maintain fan engagement.

The writing of each series heavily depends on the production house in charge. It's not the same team every time and people who've worked on bls outside of the company end up being in the production team of a gmmtv series quite often. There are a lot of factors that affect the result of a series and a lot of complexities behind the scenes within the entertainment industry..

Yeah, it was more like a warning for people who don't enjoy watching unhealthy dynamics. I do agree that all kinds…
Like I said the wifey/hubby terms are kinda of a rarity nowadays, based on the series that I've watched at least, so when you say you wished to see two hubbies, you mean for the couple to refer to each other as such? Cause I don't think I see that either. Characters getting married and be called husbands, yes that is a thing. But just referring to each other as boyfriends, is what you'll usually find in most series, cause the majority of the couples portray young relationships..😌

There have been some clearly verse couples --verse characters as well-- in series, but sometimes it's also implied. What changed the most regarding that aspect in bls, from my viewing experience, at least, is that the roles of top and bottom are not strictly associated with specific personality profiles as much anymore. You'll see more variety and diversity in the characters, and the idea of a submissive top and a powerful bottom has also been introduced, which is something that I love, personally, because it defies the common stereotypes, highlighting that sexual roles aren't fixed or defined by particular personality traits, but they are based on personal desire and comfort. So that part has evolved compared to the earlier days.

I don't think that's just a thai bl thing, cause I've read japanese manga and it was a concept I was familiar with. The issue is that the roles of top and bottom have been translated into specific personalities, but over the years the genre has evolved and more queer people are getting involved in these productions, so there's been a significant shift. The fandoms are a different story, though. One that I don't want to talk about..πŸ˜…

About the term "wifey", I think I've read a comment once of someone saying that it's not necessarily used in a negative or belittling way by Thai people; that it can be an endearing term and some couples do choose those titles, because they like it, so I don't have a problem with that. My only issue is when people try to hereronormalise gay couples or implicate that a gay man is less of a man and inferior. And again the genre has come a long way ever since, so you won't see these terms being used in the shows as much, I'd say rarely or not at all nowadays (based on the dramas that I've watched at least) and not in the stereotypical way they were used in the past.

Regardless, it's a really enjoyable series. The drama gave me kinda latin telenovela vibes and I loved that..πŸ˜†

Still in episode 2? Oh you haven't seen nothing yet..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thanks. It is a bit funny to read that a series from 2018 is old for less absurd understanding of queer elements…
Yeah, it was more like a warning for people who don't enjoy watching unhealthy dynamics. I do agree that all kinds of behaviours should be showcased in series, since it's art and it doesn't have to be limited or look perfect to be good.

As for me mentioning the false terminology, I didn't take into consideration that in Thailand the queer identities might work different than in the western world, so I'm not certain if that terminology is still used or accepted there, that's why I haven't edited that part off my review, but since you commented underneath I just wanted to clarify it.. But yes there has been a lot of progress since then, especially on the outdated notions mentioned within the show..😌

Once again some will say that this storyline is beneath them or they will mock the concept, which is so disrespectful towards another culture.. Like if you don't understand try to learn instead of belittling another culture. And I don't even say it as a FirstKhaotung fan. This storyline would honestly get me interested whoever was starring, but them being the protagonists and being surrounded by such a skilled cast, was a bonus..
