I gave it a 5.5/10 The plot started strong but ended weak. I like school mystery dramas a lot and I was hooked for the first few episodes but then it unfortunately turned disappointing. At least with the episode count of 8, it didn't get as draggy as it could have been, but some of the pacing was odd and the last episode felt kind of unnecessary.
depending on how you interpret the ending, it can be either bittersweet or happy. it's a bit ambiguous. definitely…
Warning for more detailed spoilers than you might want.
They part ways but then at the very end one calls the other's name. It's vague because only one of them is shown on screen but personally I interpret it as them meeting again, but some might not.
I'm enjoying this drama but damn the reveal of the culprit and her motivation is very disappointing to me. Horang's trauma regarding the incident and how she turned into a somewhat mean and distant person because of it I think is very well executed, but a lot of the other characters lack depth.
Regarding dubbing i just want to mention that i once watched few hindi dubbed episodes of CQL ....and i understood…
Well here I was referring to dubbing with the original language, not dubbing with other languages. Even in the original Chinese dub, the voices are not Wang Yibo or Xiao Zhan.
Cuz of copy right reasons. Viki always does that, its gets kinda annoying lmao. They did it in My ID is Gangnam…
I guess I haven't watched a drama on viki in a while. Viki even has their name on this one but still won't actually pay people to sub it or pay for actual music licenses, it's a bit ridiculous imo.
Yes that's a good point. This show is light and has funny moments but it doesn't take anything too far or make things seem like one big joke. The tone is consistent.
A few days ago I praised Wang Yibo's portrayal of the stoic and quiet LWJ, but today I want to praise Xiao Zhan's portrayal of Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian is a character that required a ton extreme expressions, and he did every single one of them well.
Also want to shout out the voice actors who did the dubbing. When I first watched I actually wondered if the show was dubbed (dubbed by VAs separate from the physical actors I mean, as dubbing in general is common in any country's shows or movies when the raw audio has issues) at all because almost everything fit perfectly. The whole dubbing thing is something that often turns me away from cdramas because if it's noticeable it becomes incredibly distracting to me very easily, but aside from a few moments here or there (generally non-main characters) I would have assumed it was coming right out of the actors mouth.
I think MDL needs an actual section for these voice actors in cast lists, rather than the way they're formatted right now.
I disagree about the length. The donghua (anime) is much quicker paced and I think that adaptation suffers because…
I forgot to add, both the donghua and webcomic are ongoing (or they are last I checked) so if you start either of those soon have to wait for the next season/updates. If you like to binge you'll run into a wall with those, unfortunately.
I just watched the first episode and had to immediately go out in search for a recap to understand what I just…
I also found the first two episodes to be confusing because it's not just a cold-open, but it also starts setting up the conflict in the "present" and introduces a ton of characters, but at the end of the 2nd episode is the start of the very long "flashback" (narratively, it's more like there's two parts of the story, past and present, rather than it being a "white glow around the edges" type of flashback. wow i hope that makes sense). The start of this part is the start of story, so you'll definitely be less confused after that. If you look up recaps you might encounter spoilers so be careful if you're someone who avoids them!
Okay? I just mean the show isn't doing anything super new in terms of storytelling or other cinematic aspects, and it's not like it's the first BL of it's kind either. But that isn't an insult, I think it's great that it's simple, pleasant, and just an all-around easy watch.
Many comments here accuse MDL itself using their rating system to not only purposefully favor Korean dramas, but…
Wow why don't you just go full gaslight and just say it's all in my head?? lmao. is passive-aggression and condescension your default?
And no, this is not about comments that I agree or disagree with. I've seen examples of all sorts of replies to all sorts of comments, some I agreed with one side and some I agreed with the other, but I always found the passive-aggressive or combative responses to be unnecessary even if I disagreed with the original person.
Also, If you think this has anything to do with the recent comment thread by the user Alma, that comment was made after both my original comment and your original comment. That thread at this point in time is not one that I'm talking about.

Maybe you'd enjoy the anime or webcomic version more if your main issue here is the action scenes and length rather than story or characters. Both are quicker and and the anime has some truly gorgeous & stellar moments and both are also a bit more accurate to the original novel. (though the anime also has a few instances of bad CGI, somehow the tortoise looks even worse there.)

My original comment and none of my other comments have been about the homepage, nor was I addressing comments specifically about the homepage, only ratings and rankings and the ones about that.
My comment was also not about the CQL fandom as a whole, I was only talking about the commenters here on MDL (and not even ALL of them, just the ones I addressed), which is a tiny fraction of the whole fandom. So no, I'm not "looking down" on the fandom. If you plan on deleting this comment thread then I'm not going to spend my time compiling all the passive-aggressive replies (the passive-aggressive are the most common, rather than outright combative/"harsh") to people who don't give every single aspect of the drama a shining gold star.
Yes, I did suggest people should keep their comments more relevant, and I would've actually just ignored your comment if you hadn't (incorrectly) tried to correct my use of the term "conspiracy theorists".
I really love how this drama doesn't have a lot of the typical BL tropes (you all know the ones). It's not groundbreaking or anything, but it's cute and simple and a nice break from the ones that do have those.
