On ep 3, weird change that they have Huai'an and Changyu meet so early & greatly changed the context of the scene. Not a big fan of this change because her suddenly being in the woods fighting off a wolf was so random. Why was she even there?
Has anyone read the novel and does anyone recommend reading the novel prior to watching the drama?
I got curious and read the Novel, but that was way back when it was still filming. Personally, I prefer watching shows as blindly as possible normally. If you normally read novels and can still enjoy the dramas afterwards then I don't see why not. But if you think it would hamper your ability to enjoy the drama maybe just wait.
Does anyone know if the fl has any hidden identity? How did she become such a good fighter?
spoiler read at your own risk:
she has a hidden family background even she doesn't know about fully, but her father tought her the moves. the hidden family background has big consequences later on.
How much of a comedy is it? I'm not really into Chinese comedy all that much, so I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it.…
The start is very comedy leaning but as the characters come to care about the "2d characters" around them it gradually starts getting more serious and a lot of high stakes happen
I really enjoyed this and finally finished it. I think my only big complaints are I wish the VR aspect was more integrated with the main plot, and the sequencing for the last few episodes felt kinda weird and there was a bit of fillery moments.
I don't mind that the VR parts were "unrealistic" since it gave a very whimsical fantasy vibe, I just kind of wish maybe instead of him leasing her apartment they just got to know each other more and more through the VR game.
But there is very little below a 7 on MDL, so, I'm not sure saying "anything above a 7" means a whole…
I mean imo, most full length shows on here are decent productions. You actually do start seeing pretty bad ratings if you look up vertical dramas or those short web dramas.
But that's part of my point too. Most things are rated between 7-9, so i don't see much point in paying too much attention to the ratings & raw scores are rarely useful. like the above comment said its better to look at reviews & consider your own tastes.
I think people care too much about ratings. Honestly anything above a 7 is probably decent to good or even great, although there may be some big flaws or it might just come down to personal preference
feiyu has no middle point lol. In his last 4 seriesin l&p he was cold nonchalant while in eat run love he…
To be fair, there isn't a lot of variety when it comes to MLs in romance-focused cdramas (and kdramas) to begin with. Maybe it's just what I watch, but I can't think of any ML characters that don't fit one of those types off the top of my head.
Finally finished this, the 2nd xanxia I've ever actually finished lol. Very enjoyable although the tropes in the…
I am a bit disappointed that the ending was so abrupt I would have liked to have known the fates of the side characters and if poor Bi An survived or not after being You Yan's puppet for so long... they didn't even mention it once You Yan was locked inside the seal... I mean there wasn't much time since Tingyan was dying but they could've spared one dialog line for her or smth... I guess she died since her body disapeared
Finally finished this, the 2nd xanxia I've ever actually finished lol. Very enjoyable although the tropes in the 2nd half are part of why I struggle with the xanxia genre so much
Transmigrator in the novelLet's see what they will do in the drama
I thought it was kind of interesting. My (baseless) theory is that maybe Qianqian's story was something else the author had thought of, but didn't want tobother making it its own story for whatever reasonso she made it a side characters story instead. I think it's meant to serve as an explanation for Qianqian's characterization more than any plotpurpose.
Transmigrator in the novelLet's see what they will do in the drama
I agree w/ the others that it isn't important to the plot so it will probably be omitted. It felt more like a sort of joke taken seriously in the novel. Like, Yu Qianqian could have been the protagonist of her own tragic transmigration novel, but in this story it's just a footnote.
i can't get over how ugly the color grading is for this show. it's very "our viewers are definitely all stupid. they won't know it's a military themed period drama if we don't make everything filtered in the ugliest greyish green known to man"

for the ML, it does sound like Zhang Linghe but i am not 100% sure.
she has a hidden family background even she doesn't know about fully, but her father tought her the moves.

Historical fiction doesn't mean only ancient setting (though thats usually how its used on MDL).
Maybe it's just what I watch, but I can't think of any ML characters that don't fit one of those types off the top of my head.
