STUPID. I became a fan long before I knew he was dating his ex and it's in a drama that has nothing to do with her. He is way more versatile. He was able to have a strong presence playing a king in a 2011 kdrama and he was able to be at level in playing against the veteran older actors with him. He was able to play a Werewolf, he acts a dog there but can be innocent too. At the same year, he did Innocent Man, a melodrama, and a role very much opposite of his Werewolf role. I read somewhere in 2013 that he was offered a movie which Bong Joon Ho had written a script to but he declined because he was in the army. It's just that his early pre-2016 roles did not get any international hype because kdrama people did not like melodrama and sageuk then as today.
Song joong ki played a main characters younger version 😂 that was unexpected
it was a role many were discouraging him to accept since it was a small role and he was already growing into popularity before this kdrama, but he chose it because it was a challenge since he wanted to prove that he could be a serious actor. So glad he took this role, it was this drama that made me a fan. The older version Han Suk Kyu is really amazing too, wish he was the one won baeksang in 2012 since his performance here was just phemonenal.

It's a sageuk and it's about something terrible that happens to a country (invasion of foreigners), you can't avoid politics. We as foreigners find it boring because we are not familiar with the era, but Koreans who understand the sageuk love it. Some of the characters are not real but the invasion of foreigners in Joseon Korea was a real event. I am touched with the actors performances.
