I saw some minor complaints on Twitter about the trio's jokes not being funny.. but isn't that the point? They're…
Yeah, synopsis on MDL are just atrocious! Most of the time I can't make heads or tails of what the drama is about because it all reads like it was translated by Google lol
Congrats! There should be an article for Chloe Zhao too rather than a small mention at the bottom. It's a tremendous achievement to win the Best Director for a woman let alone a minority woman, especially as there is no separate category for" the best female director".
I'm European so I might not understand the feelings of those involved but to me this sounds like a modern type…
I'm from UK (ex European lol) and feel the same that cancelling a drama or petitioning for one to be cancelled shouldn't be happening at all in 2021. Creativity shouldn't be censored or stifled like this unless it's illegal. I feel like South Koreans (or Asians in general for that matter) take themselves way too seriously and lack the ability to laugh at themselves. If this was happening in UK, we'd definitely be the first to be taking the piss out of ourselves and turn it into a meme at least. I'm sure the rating would go up too just to see how it's been messed up and see how ridiculous it is. I mean it is kind of funny or maybe it's just me and my English sense of humour lol
Why a cis man playing the role of a trans woman again ?
Why not? So a gay actor can’t play a straight character either? Don’t be ridiculous. It’s called acting. You play a role regardless of your own sexuality/sex/gender.
after the interview with the screenwriter and seeing the second couple kissing and hearing rumors about some kind…
Thanks for the link. I've read it and now it makes more sense, but if they wanted to make a drama that normalizes homosexuality without the BL label, I don't think they should've made the kiss "the elephant in the room". By adopting a softly softly approach for the benefit of the general public, I feel like the label they ended up putting, intentionally or unintentionally, on this drama is that "we can only hint at a kiss because it's not acceptable by the society". To me it had the opposite effect of what they were trying to achieve. Yes, you're right, I assumed the production team did more homework and research and I guess their intention was in the right place as you said, but the execution was seriously lacking. :-( Anyway, I'm happy that so many loved it, including myself in most parts despite everything lol Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the discussion. :-)

Agree with everything you said. I didn't get to read the screenwriter interview so not sure what exactly they said, but sounds like they're not 100% convinced themselves that homosexuality can be accepted from what you wrote. If the screenwriter didn't even have the guts to say with 100% confidence that there's nothing wrong with LGBT but that they had to "walk on eggshells" so as to not hurt anyone, then no wonder it made me feel the way it did. As you said, it should've definitely been treated the same way as any other straight dramas out there, but it felt like they held back a big time. It's NOT right to use BL to attract viewers IMO. Being LGBT is not a tool. Dare I say it, it reeked of latent homophobia in a way to me (maybe homophobia is too strong a word, but at least stigma). Also, if the rumor about the agency clause on no same sex kiss is really true, then what the hell were they doing offering the role to someone who doesn't even support LGBT? No, they can't revolutionize the system with one drama, but they could've broken the mold. An opportunity missed. Never expected to feel this way because it's such a lovely sweet drama, but left a bitter after taste that I could've done without.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I had a big rant earlier in the comments and now I've calmed down a bit lol (sorry for being such a drama queen) but some things just don't sit well with me. I do still like the show overall, but my feeling is like "why flaunt it if you're not gonna properly showcase it"? Felt a bit cheap and gimmicky for the sake of it to put it bluntly. Anyway, I may be confusing the BL genre with the LGBT one.
So the chinese fans were saying from long ago that there will be no kiss from the main because Machida's company…
So disappointing if that was really the case that Machida's agency didn't allow it. Did he audition for the role or was he offered it? So many questions because why audition for a role when you know you can't fully portray the character/relationship in its true form and why offer it to someone who can't for the same reason??? Anyway, I guess I shouldn't take it so seriously lol It's a light and fluffy drama and I should treat it as such! Just ignore me and my rants!
I think it depends on the series and the management company of the actors. I recently finished the Jdrama Marry…
I totally get that and sure there are straight dramas where there are no intimate scenes, but like RondomUsagi said above, there was a kiss between the second cp, so it was so weird not to see one between the main cp. Maybe it's to do with a contract/clause the main leads had like you said, who knows.
Hmmm... I'm going to be honest and say that I didn't really like it. Sorry, don't shoot me! lol Maybe it's just me, but it felt like they shied away from a kiss or anything intimate to pass the censorship or whatever the reason was, like they were so scared of "offending" the "straight" population or higher ups/sponsors maybe... I felt like tearing my hair out at the end. I'm NOT someone who watches BL for the sake of watching two men getting it on, no way. That's not my thing at all, but if this was a drama between a man and a woman, we would've at least got a screen time dedicated to a kiss for a few seconds, right? So, why not between two men? It's OK for men to kiss each other, jeez. Just couldn't stand the seemingly double standard.
Just my two cents for now. It's just MY opinion and I do NOT mean to upset anyone, so if you want to have a go at me, please save it. I'll probably have a different opinion later when I've processed it properly.
I believe there was a misunderstanding or even it was purposefully misinformed by the company: this ain't a BDSM…
I must've missed something but where did they ever say it's a BDSM film? I watched the official trailer and quite a few PR stuff but nowhere does it ever say it's about BDSM. The tagline is actually "a conflict between life and death". So, I don't really know why many seem to think it is... Maybe it's just those who watched it with dodgy translation got confused and started calling it BDSM and somehow that got spread unnecessarily.
Its based on context. In episode 10 Kurosawa made sure Adachi knew the word''reward'' was meant to be a reference…
Yeah, it's such a shame that WeTV doesn't seem to take it seriously then and set the bar so low. I mean the translation can literally make or break a film/drama. Ah well.

So, who the hell is doing the subs for WeTV?!? Never watched anything on there, but it's a legitimate streaming site, right? Maybe they should've at least hired someone who can actually translate then, no? lol I just think it's funny that fansubbers who're not paid to do this are better lol
No they are releasing 3 special episodes on 24th aka wednesdayAnd ep 12 on 25 aka thursday
Oh, that's interesting, because doesn't that then kind of mess up the timeline??? So, are we to assume that ep 12 is taking place after the Valentine special or are those special episodes completely separate from the main episodes?
I mean when I watched the specials trailer, I did think it was a bit odd that Kurosawa was giving Adachi his "Honmei chocolate" (meaning a real gift that you only give to someone you really like/love?) at work if they were a couple and also to call it that as opposed to "Valentines's chocolate for my BF" or something? So maybe they just go back to being friends in ep 12 then?!? :-O

It's so f***ing deranged I love it! lol
