Title Silent Truth Spoiler
So, let me get this straight, according to the detective, the policeman fires the first warning shot, but the perp doesn't care and shoots straight at the policeman anyway, which luckily he misses. Yet, the policeman still decides to fire the second warning shot??? Are we meant to conclude that he was just kind and/or naive wanting to believe the best in people, even someone who was shooting straight at him, because this sounds stupid to me. It would be more believable if he took a shot but missed (he could've shot at his leg or arm, not necessary to kill him). What made him think that someone who was already shooting at him would stop after the second warning?? I don't buy the scenario the detective laid out and no, I'm not a trigger happy American lol
I hope there's a twist because I don't want this to turn into one of those crime, mystery dramas where you have to brush certain details under the carpet or leave logic behind to enjoy.

Anyway I love Ryoma Takeuchi's acting.

The seventh person could be the policeman you know. Yes, I know the face is different from when he was a kid but I'm waiting for them to use the plastic surgery trope lol

Also, did they do a DNA test on the body that was burnt to death? I feel like they just assumed it was Kantaro and that episode ended very vague.

i watch both bl and het jdrama and the kiss is pretty much typical innocent shoujo kiss. heck i even watched amane's…
Triggered much and defensive lol How rude resorting to name calling. Now I know what kind of person you are. You’re the one who brought up the "fetishy stuff", not me, like “shoujo kiss” “being desperate for teenage boys kissing”and “fan service”. I was warned certain bl fans are super touchy about their fetishes/fave actor being challenged and seems to be true that.

My bad I keep forgetting BL is mainly a fantasy/fetish for women in general and nothing to do with representing or accepting/celebrating homosexuality. Thanks for reminding me.
On Kimi to Nara Koi wo Shite Mite mo Dec 17, 2023
What was everyone involved in this drama thinking??? They were OK about writing a gay ML but they decided it was too inappropriate to show a kiss between two men so they hide it not just once but twice??? I get Japan is still homophobic and some actors are worried about their image but it’s ridiculous. Why get involved in BL then?

The whole drama is about Amane's struggles of being gay and his love interest Ryuji, who is refreshing, honest, basically an all round good guy and he encourages Amane to be who he is without fear because there's nothing wrong with being gay. But in the last episode, the drama turns around and says, “well actually there is something wrong with being gay, we feel it's taboo to show kisses between two men, so we'd rather hide them and cater to people who feel uncomfortable about the same sex intimacy.”. The production team is no different from all those dickheads the script criticised about who were homophobic towards Amane. The irony.

This kind of drama epitomises what can be wrong with the BL industry as a whole; basically it’s a business, people in it for the money, fame, popularity all the while being ignorant/turning a blind eye to internalised heterosexism, couldn’t care less about those they’re supposedly representing.
On I Cannot Reach You Dec 17, 2023
Good grief. The script is so bad. All it does is to regurgitate cliches after cliches. Can’t stand Kakeru’s acting either. Too deliberate and OTT. Why do many Japanese directors think this kind of acting is acceptable??? Fortunately there are some out there that can actually direct and don’t allow overacting in their drama, so not translating manga facial expressions and reactions into real life is just lazy and incompetent. It’s so unnatural and can’t take the drama seriously.

That scene where Yoh tells Mizuki that he put the gps tracker back, as you do, was funny af like he was talking about a toothbrush or something ! Loool Yeah of course you did!

The sexual tension in this drama is hot af!

Love seeing Yoh having a tantrum hehehe He’s the cutest when he’s throwing his toys out of the pram and sulking in his inner monologue! Lol Honestly he’s like my golden retriever when he doesn’t get his own way :-)

I’m absolutely loving this drama but allow me to rant about FL(Chiharu) in Episode 5 (or in general about female characters in Jdramas).

Why are they always “too nice”, putting up with abuse and never standing up for themselves!!! Why would FL go and see that a***hole manager in the first place (just ignore him) and what’s worse behave so politely and respectfully (he’s not her manager anymore anyway!)? Like I know Japan is hierarchical plus misogynistic but women just seem to accept it and never speak up about anything. It’s so frustrating to watch every single time. Ok rant over lol

Btw, Shiono Akihisa is great as Eiji!

Title The Man of 0.5 Spoiler
Love all the characterisation in this drama. Very well written, for example, the mother's character is so real of her generation especially in Asia. She's misogynistic but doesn't even know it, like shaming her daughter for wanting a career by telling her, "a mother should always put her children first". Why should the daughter's husband (man/father) get a pass? It's such a realistic portrayal of older Asian women who have been conditioned to accept that women are supposed to stay at home and take care of the husband and family 24/7 putting her own needs last. Great drama.

Title Egoist Spoiler
Can Anyone explain why this is called the Egoist?
I have a slightly different take on this. I feel like the title Egoist, in this sense, means the same as the famous quote, "we don't see things as they are, we see them as we are".

Kosuke wanted to "buy" Ryuta because he fell in love and wanted him all to himself and I think he truly believed he was doing the right thing, loving thing for both of them. Nothing at all wrong with that, I'm sure most of us would do exactly the same in his position. But in the end, Ryuta ended up working himself to death, because the money Kosuke was giving him wasn't enough. I believe Ryuta was truly happy with Kosuke as well but unfortunately love didn't conquer everything. Could he have asked for more money? Of course not. It was already "awkward", plus Ryuta had his "pride" as well, and the exchange of money made the relationship "unequal" in the first place. Kosuke looking down on Ryuta from his apartment waving and Ryuta looking up at Kosuke from the ground waving, that was a bittersweet scene showing the power dynamic in their relationship. Kosuke thought he'd countered that by making Ryuta work more and contribute a bit towards a car, for example. But again, knowing what happened to Ryuta, was it really the right thing to do?

Everything was done from Kosuke's point of view (what he thought was love/out of kindness) and not the harsh reality facing Ryuta. Even when Ryuta was too tired to eat or speak properly, falling asleep on the sofa from working too hard, Kosuke was just happy to be there with him, because he had Ryuta all to himself. There's an interesting scene where Ryuta is constantly working from job to job while Kosuke is at home doing sit ups and looking at himself in the mirror.

But, as we get to know more about Kosuke, we learn towards the end that he was getting into debt himself by making payments to Ryuta. So did doing what he thought was right out of love make him an egoist? Was his love selfish or unselfish? I think the film is asking the question and it’s up to us the audience to draw our own conclusions, seeing things as we are, because at the end of the day, aren’t we all a bit selfish anyway when it comes to love/life?
On Even if You Don’t Do It Jun 24, 2023
I'm speechless after watching episode 11. I had a bad hunch and unfortunately, it came true. Why would Michi go back to that good for nothing husband who is so selfish and immature (he acts like he’s 15)? Didn't she come to her senses but suddenly after a year or so, she is in love with him again??? I mean don't they want different things in life anyway like he doesn't want children but she does, which is a huge red flag, but she's willing to sacrifice her life and her desire for children to be with a man who only sees her as a housekeeper/mother???

Japanese screenwriters do seem to have a great difficulty writing a strong independent FL. Side characters, sure, but FL almost always seems to be like a woman from 1980’s. It's like someone at the end of episode 10 said, "We can't be giving women in Japan ideas. Michi needs to go back to her ex and be put back in her place because women can't be independent and in control. Their "job" is to "serve" men like Yo who can't look after themselves".

Maybe MDL goes to the same church as those ladies.
MDL is homophobic af. I remember reading a comment by someone last year, who wanted to write an article on a bl drama and they were told no, because apparently MDL has a policy where they don't allow bl/lgbtq dramas to be featured on their home page.

Hmmmm don’t quite know what to make of this drama. The script felt so outdated, full of cliches that have been done to death I kept rolling my eyes, some plots were so annoying, the pace also felt slow, yet having said all that I ended up watching all the episodes and somehow the story stayed with me for a while afterwards and made me feel all sorts of conflicting emotions. It kinda left me with a bad taste in my mouth but overall it was beautiful. It’s so weird. Lol
On The End of the World with You Feb 28, 2023
I’m fuming after watching episode 5. They rescue a woman who is being forced into a hotel room by a guy and they have the audacity to imply that it’s all her fault because of what she’s wearing! Wtf. What kind of sexist bs is this. Yes, I’m well aware that she turned out to be a “man” in women’s clothes, but that’s irrelevant as they thought she was a woman at that time and the message put out is still toxic whatever the sex.

She wasn’t even wearing anything revealing anyway (though that shouldn’t matter because even if she was in a bikini, that doesn’t mean she’s asking for it and that men are entitled to sex), but lo and behold, a script written by a man, and a guy forcing a woman into a hotel room isn’t responsible for his actions because it’s all a woman’s fault for wearing “sexy” clothes. I’m done with this bs. It’s 2023 ffs and so disappointing and disgusting that such a misogynistic way of thinking is “casually”promoted like this in a drama mainly targeted at women.

I’m also shocked that no one else seems to have picked up on it (haven’t read all the comments mind you) when MDL is normally so quick to condemn anything and anyone that’s not 100% morally upright. Just shows the society in general is so used to misogyny and conditioned to accept it as if it’s no big deal.

But many people have committed more crimes to cover up the first one irl too, so the motive certainly isn't original, but I don't think it's that stupid. Sure, especially as a policeman, he should've confessed to Koharu's death immediately, but not everyone is honest like that!

Honestly the story of the kidnapper being Todo's wife was more believable and interesting than it being the policemen…
The picture was what kicked off the whole thing but that wasn't the motive though.
