I can't say she approved or not, but she understands. In the book's first timeline, she was very good to FL's cousin sister and supported her till her death. It wasn't that she liked the FL or something. She understood politics are politics and they weren't personal. In the book, FL's father even went Wei family's funeral and grandmother welcomed them. It was his mother who was irrational and misplaced his anger. And both in the book and in the drama, FL's father wanted to help them but grandpa and uncle declined.

Grandfather betrayed them, because Qiao family doesn't have a strong army and if were to go, they would die together. He chose to live and protect his people. ML's grandmother understands this, that's why she accepted their marriage and supported her. ML and his clan are all about honoring their words, but women know better that if there is a chance of going back alive, then stay alive.

In the book, wei shao also seven years older than her. I think casting is just fine. LYN is rocking as wei shao with his psycho smile

I think second male lead of back from the brink should fit your description. Riley Wang is so underrated I wish he could get more main roles

Well, in ancient china, and in some of other chinese influenced turkic and mongol tribes, men would be given a courtesy name when they come of age. In turkic tribes, after he joins battles or shows some heroic acts. His mom is calling him with his childhood given name while his friend uses the courtesy name. I'm turkish, and even though renaming children after their show of heroic act is a long lost tradition, people still jokes about when parents take too long to decide a name for their newborn - will you name him now or wait for him to show some heroic acts?

Can we appriciate the person who had done the casting a bit more? Young actors look like their older selves, hanyan really resembles her mother. And everyone can really act, not there to be a placeholder. I know this is not a low budget drama but certainly not s+ yet they have put the effort.

If you compare him Duke Su or Song Mo, yes he doesn't have the same vibe but I think he is ok. At least he doesn't stand there as if constipated.

I think you should read my comment first before lashing out, I mentioned Lin Yi's previous drama Angel Falls Sometimes, it wasn't something about Yu Shuxin. And I don't need to read the novel and decide if she acts like the character or not - because I am not her acting coach or a drama critic. Her character is not to my liking in this drama so I'm dropping. And kindly gave it to a chance by asking if she gets better because I like Lin Yi. What's your problem?

I've watched half of the first episode. I really couldn't stand female lead acts like a spoiled child at a business dinner. Inform me if this gets any better because I really want to watch Lin Yi in a new drama without bawling my eyes out

Well, being a skilled/good voice actor means changing your voice according to the character you're dubbing. Some anime voice actors can both dub male and female characters in the same anime yet you don't even understand they're the same person. People here doesn't criticize her voice, they criticize her spoiled princess/childlike manner in talking. Dubbing all her characters in the same manner does NOT count as a dubbing skill. Personally, I'm very ok with her childlike talking manner while watching her as Orchidor any other historical fantasy, but in modern dramas it feels really annoying and make her characters seem they lack intelligence. You cannot talk to your boss with a tone like you're begging your mom to buy you icecream.

This wasn't gaslighting. If she said "you are seeing things, visit a shrink" it could be said so. She never questioned what he saw. Just said she is also seeing things. She said she believed him, then reminded him to think scientifically. That made him calmer. Her sister rightout said "your eyesight is already bad" which was the right attitude if you really want to deal with the situation without considering other party's feelings.

I don't think if you ever know what gaslighting means. Even if she gaslights him, so what? Tang Qi is also a stalker who doesn't take no for an answer, waiting at someone's door or hugging people on the train without their permission? If there was a Tang Qi in real life he would have already been reported to the police for stalking. He was a total red flag with Su Miao and with Fang Jin, she was already married and he was supposed to lost his love of his life. The guy is a yandere. But, this is a FANTASY drama and we watch it for fun. If you just don't enjoy it then don't watch. Nobody forces you. Female lead is not someone who is trying to make do with two braincells. She's trying to save her identity from being exposed by using her brain, and if this makes you think she's gaslighting, there are so many dramas out there with stupid female leads. She is not insulting college degrees with her stupidity or doesn't need a male lead to save her ass here and there.

It is just a drama, not real life. It is not even a realistic one with a magic bracelet and lucky turtles...
