Is this drama basically about everyone scheming against our FL? If so, I may rethink watching this. Also, when…
Actually it was the only kind thing he did for her after treating her like trash for years. By not giving her an Empress's funeral, she is not tied to him in the afterlife. By burying her as a Noble Lady with Consort Chun, he set her free from being confined to the palace and him.
Ruyi loved Hong Li who no longer existed. She despised Qinglong, the Emperor. He is indeed a despicable red flag guy.
Unfortunately only episodes 1 & 2 have English subtitles, the rest do not. I have found some scenes on TikTok with English subtitles but not whole episodes.
I'm hoping Mango TV will translate the remaining Season 1 episodes when they start releasing the Season 2 episodes. Season 2 will wrap up filming tomorrow, March 25.
I tried several times to watch this. I don't feel any chemistry between them. I write romance and read romance…
It's definitely a different kind of romance in the beginning. What makes it harder to see them as a romantic couple at the start is LY's character having emotional blindness, he can't identify what he is feeling except pain. We know GY likes him but what does he feel towards her? Does he recognize it? Will he admit it to her? If you are used to seeing a give and take/push and pull relationship from the get go, this series will definitely test your patience. It's much more interesting after episode 20 or so when LDW does the chasing. The romance picks up too in a very sweet way.
I’m halfway through episode 9 and dont know how i feel. It has very good moments and i know it's progressing…
It is a slow burn drama so the relationship does not move very fast at the beginning, it does pickup up about mid-way.
The FL is currently completely infatuated with the ML so yes, she is not being very objective but I feel most of her reactions are not out of the ordinary. I didn't have any problem with her seeking his psychiatrist as all she asked were general questions about the ML's condition to get a better understanding. Once she asked a direct question regarding LDW, the shrink steered her away and she understood. The only problem I had with the visit was that LDW was there and I felt this was unfair to GY.
I think as viewers, we get to see and understand the inside thoughts of both characters and expect the ML and FL to act in a rational way but the problem is LDW is never direct with GY whereas she is almost always direct with him. Yes, LDW has difficulty sorting and expressing his emotions but he obviously likes her and wants her to stay but never gives her any direct answer or clue about their relationship until he pushes her away. She's not asking for much, just something which she never gets until the second half of the series. Personally, she should have moved out of his apartment much earlier.
I loved this drama from episode one but it's not everyone's cup of tea. I hope you stick with it. :-)
Justice for Du le character bro deserves the whole universe but his character has been made just a love loser…
He is one of my favorite characters on the show. He may not have had a happy ending by the time the series ended but I think the writers offered hope for a future reconciliation. GXX had some growing up to do before she could enter a serious committed relationship.
Wow, Social Media is all about Smile Code now and fans continue to support this drama because they thought it…
This is so great to hear. I loved it and it's my rewatch comfort show.
Although it follows a similar story outline to other C-drama rom-coms, Smile Code itself is different and unique. I want everyone to give this drama a watch.
UGHHHH i've watched so many episodes WHEN WILL THE REAL ROMANCE START???? so many difficulties for them to get…
It is a very slow developing romance with a breakup in the middle, followed by him chasing her to win her back. They start "dating" in episode 26 and officially become boyfriend/girlfriend in episode 28.
I have to say that Gu Yi's mother Da Meixia's view of love is really sober. I think these words are not only suitable…
I completely agree. When I first watched that scene, I was stunned by how wise (and progressive) these words were. Although I think this view of a loving relationship would apply to everyone, I think it is more valuable for girls who are expected to be passive.
Reviewers giving it 10 on 10, but drama rating is 7.8!!!Ridiculous!! BTW, how was it? Worth watching?
I personally loved it. Not your typical rom-com drama. It's a slow burn romance that has heart, smart dialogue, and laugh out loud moments. The cinematography is spectacular and the lighting is used in a way that reflects the characters. It takes some getting used to at the beginning but the story is really good with great characters.
Watch a few episodes and decide. I hope you like it.
I’m only at ep 16, but I’m curious and I don’t mind spoilers, I saw a clip and it’s still express for…
In the drama series they do not but in the novel, they do. He returns to her at a later time.
They do date for a while but Yu DuLe broke up with her when her parents showed up and disapproved of him. What cemented the breakup was she participated in a dating variety show without telling him only to have him find out when he became the video editor for the show. She tried to reconcile with him but he didn't believe that she loved him or was capable of of leaving the luxurious life that her godparents provided for her.
I'm guessing the story writers didn't want everyone to have a happy ending but decided to leave the relationships outside of the lead couple to be ambiguous.
I can't tell you how much I LOVE Mei Xia, Gu Yi's mother. Her interactions with Liang Dai Wen are precious, her love and understanding of him is amazing to watch.
Firstly she's an amateur comic, secondly the jokes are lost in translation from Chinese (lots of the jokes are…
I'm Chinese and the language is all about subtlety and intonation. An example would be the number 4, which in Cantonese is pronounced THe with the emphasis on the Th with the "e" being soft. However, if the emphasis was on the "e" (thE) with the "th" being quieter and the "e" emphasized and longer, the word means death/dying. This is why Chinese will not use the #4 in advertising and such.
Is there a break up? For how long? What about time skip? Love triangle?
Yes, there's a breakup. The drama doesn't specifically mention the time spent apart which makes it a little confusing but in the novel, he was gone for 6 months. I wish the drama made mention of how long he was gone, this would explain the level of her heartbreak and why she was so angry when he returned looking for her.
There is a second ML who is infatuated with her but she clearly considers him a friend. He does support her throughout her work and relationship difficulties in sweet and thoughtful ways; he can't stand to see her upset or crying and sincerely wants her to be happy. SML knows she loves LDW and doesn't overstep. She makes it clear throughout that she considers him a friend.
