well in the novel, nxg parent are divorced, the one who's rich is the father. and she choose to live with her mother, who actually doesn't want to take anything when they got divorce. so nxg and her mother are self made. nxg have beef with her father and doesn't want to take his money. so i think she knows about struggle.
i really do think that nxg will accept sml if he play it right. but again it's not about his confidence, but also more than that. relationship works 2 ways. if he want to keep it he should play nice, have something to show, works on the relationship, or even just be on her side of story when she need it. without it, she doesn't have trust, or something to go on
