Does this drama get interesting at some point? I'm at Episode 4 and it's just a damn slog fest. So boring nothing…
Honestly, I feel the same for the first episodes. So, I can relate. What encouragement me to keep watching is I want to know what happen with Li Shan Academy. However, they take a long way to get there. When I'm almost there, the preview disappoints me (I rarely peek at the previews, but I can't take it anymore). I want to give this drama the last chance because I know preview is always misleading.
If you have a reason to watch the drama—Bai Lu is a good reason because her character gets all the plot armor, keep going. If you don't, it's better to find another drama that entertain you. You can always pick this drama when you're in the mood for this kind of pace.

Ye Li is smart. We all agree with that.
She found a way (unfortunately, an extreme way) to persuade Mo Xiu Yao to let her heal his legs. With that in mind, she could have found a way or create a perfect situation to talk about her revenge plan and the edict with Mo Xiu Yao.
The writers can do better to take our leads to finally get into the mountain to investigate what happen with the scholars in Li Shan Academy, not like this.
Hopefully, before episode 36, Yan Jiang found a solution for his no sense of direction. 😅 It's interesting because there are clinical cases for this inability.

You took the words out of my mouth. It was reasonable for him to think she doesn't love or trust him, but just repaying a debt. Yep, Ye Li need a wake up call. She's like her mother, I guess, playing a hero. 🧐🤔 And I understand it's her coping mechanism because she realizes her mother's mistake is unforgivable.
I hope the writers won't make a cliché, where Mo Xiu Yao regrets his words because people around her and him blame him and glorifies Ye Li's misery in their reconciliation.

He took that paper as a symbol of Ye Li paying her mother's debt, not because she cared about him. Why should he keep it any longer?
He promised to never leave her because he didn't know the truth. What normal response in that kind of situation? Well, separation, of course. It happened to every couple when they have a huge argument.

She knew her mother's playing to be a hero's consequences not only causing Mo Xiu Yao's family's downfall, but also the death of 30.000 soldiers (and probably more if their families followed the soldiers into afterlife). That's why she could not tell Mo Xiu Yao about the edict and waited for him to ask first.
Ye Li shouldn't have said she healed Mo Xiu Yao's legs and cleared all the victims's name to repay her mother's debt and compensate Mo Xiu Yao, because nothing, again, nothing could repay and compensate those ten of thousands lives. It was a huge number of casualties.
Ye Li didn't kill those soldiers, yes, but her arrogance in her confession showing she downplayed her mother's grave mistake. It hurt Mo Xiu Yao.
I'm not taking side but trying to understand both struggles that cause the argument.
