Actually, you are being realistic. Fans of this drama are living soo much in lala land that they are comparing…
Even If it was a third grade trashy copy of something like game of thrones, I would gladly accept it because then, I could expect that the one who got gang raped will actually control the mafia and rise from the ashes and the ML who got abused will kill the exes by manipulating Chi cheng and take his revenge . Then, the guy who got gang raped and the ML will end up together and will align to finally kill the rapist Chi cheng and control the gang together. Hence, Revenged love ! The entire story will revolve around strategising to kill exes and Chi cheng.
That's what GOT was about. It was about grabbing power. It wasn't about taking a rapist and calling him a romantic lover. They weren't selling romance of the rapist and calling it "game of love" . What's wrong with people?
I wish I had a way to reverse the trauma some of the girls who recommended this have given me. I can't see them the same way again. I have never seen this level of abuse desensitisation in gen Z audience. Like, genz was supposed to be better.
In fact, for a long time , I kept the drama on hold expecting that they will show that experiencing abuse affected the character soo much (especially because he was still in closet and his first experience with a man was abuse), that he slowly gets to see the dark side of living with someone who has a history of SA...and finally takes his revenge by throwing him in jail. I was also expecting the boy who got gang SAed to join him in taking revenge.
I know this sounds like I have written a fanfic of my own but that's what I expected "Revenged" love to be. Now, people tell me that it's impossible because it's not dark . It's funny and romantic 🥹 where? I must be blind or something.
Some girls also told me this nonchalantly (word for word) , "its okay! The BTS came out and honestly, it's a drama of its own. You can watch it for them and ship them. The chemistry keeps me up at night"
I almost froze like how you freeze when someone says something so uncomfortable that you don't even have a reply. If there's anything worse than romanticization of SA in drama, its people not being able to separate those characters from reality.
