Sorry to bring back something you bid your farewell to! bro that's a lot and i can agree with some points, but i just wanted to advocate for james playing suffering. imo he is playing a person who copes with sexual trauma in a few ways.
First is getting everything he can under control, and if it's impossible - shutting his emotions and expressions to not let anyone get him. That is actually realistic, lots of hurt kids grow up reacting to bad stuff in stiffening and closing up. Second is his unconscious brain reaction, that reveals itself when his poise is weakened: he is trying to relive those traumas and regain control over himself and the situation he was in (which is why he frequently takes the lead in the interactions). Being "perverted", sexually addicted, having differences in regard of sexual behaviour compared to unharmed people is a real thing. Eua probably thinks of himself as a slut because of it and is hateful towards himself most of the time. I see his composure as a persona, and when it breaks i think he plays believable enough.
About Eua suffering too much (and getting too many rapists over him) - yeah, i felt that too. Though the trauma of being a victim of SA gets you to repeated scenarios, they are not usually that repetitive. About 1st sexual interaction being under alcohol- 100% agreed. some people do think it's ok, for me it was extremely wrong on the sober one's part and they should have addressed it. About femboy and trans - agreed too. On the 4th ep situation - yeah that's yikes, but ig king doesn't really know about the trauma yet... or idk, it does suck atp (i mean the amount of harrasment eua gets) Getting all the bad guys punished is clearly not this series's point, so imma skip it lol
About EuaKing relationship. I feel like it broke because of Net (and unclear writing). The latter didn't show us any evidence of King being flirty with people, we just know that James and supposedly everyone else thinks so. And from the get-go Net acts so deeply mesmerized by James and so in love with him, we cannot actually see the feelings unfold. Well... i kinda undertand, but still lol I think in the original plot King really thought that he just wanted Eua as a casual sex partner and maybe a good buddy, nice person to have around and kiss sometimes. This is why he suggested fwb. And yes, we didn't get enough backstory to learn why he is closed to a relationship attempt, but it could be the arrangement situation (didn't want to get feeling that are bound to be ruined). Eua on the other hand *probably* saw King as he was (og), casually flirting and wanting to fuck Eua, but actually very receptive to his wishes. King for Uea is an outlet to release his sexual tention while having control over what's happening and kind of rewiring his brain to heal. That's basically cbt :) Uea doesn't really hate King, but he despises people who do 1 night stands (as him) instead of proper relationships, since for Eua sex is both a dangerous and extremely desirable thing and he is highly sensitive in that matter.
King loving Uea too much is just Net looking at James through this, change my opinion. In a colder play he would just be possessive. Also Eua gives attention back and doesn't push King too far away.
About nc being uncomfortable - idk bro, i found it better than in a lot of other thai BLs. Rewatched two scenes to rewind; nope, nothing extremely cringe, maybe even lower than the norm. Does thai bl industry even do better?.. For me it felt quite realistic (and im a grown person with a considerably big and diverse, eh, reference pool). It was clearly played out, but i can see this happening irl, nothing too pathetic or absurd. Also chemistry does a lot, i cringe when i see actors acting out something they genuinely can't feel, but here it's clearly not the case. Consensual self-controlled sex as CPT could be working, so yeah that's part of healing... But i think the drama says it was mutual trust that helped. yeah, not sure, maybe.
time skips are also not my thing, or i need them spelled out very clearly, on your side here. (skipping a few points here) For me Eua agrees to fwb for a few reasons: - plot o.o - hope to trust/feel love/heal - good experience on that 1 night - own goals (described b4: keeping his involuntary sexuality under control w/o a regular partner is hard, esp. since sleeping around would be unbearable - he already feels dirty) - King being both soft and persistent. that works irl too :) he was there and showed support, care, reliability and desire, so the pros outweighed the cons
okay in the last one i get that you actually hated James' acting, that's totally okay, it's a taste thing. I liked it a lot, different people – different opinions.
Sorry again for bringing this to your attention, feel free to close and not react~
well hi again, i've read your review :) kinda feels like pink-glassed one, but i'd mostly agree. can't wait to see James in the upcoming series, his catlike attitude got me very hooked. He'll be the villain and i think he'd be awesome... sadly without Net
watch "bed friend" if you haven't already, chemistry is top notch, plot is a lot better (still problematic, but not with the MCs, and not so cringe), music and style are very good
Other than the sex scenes and the cuteness of the leads, there was absolutely NOTHING redeeming about this series.…
got to watch this after hearing all the comments about Sorn being a jerk, but to the middle of 3rd ep he actually behaves decently (kinda acts boybriendish, and i don't mean "jealousy overload": he notices Jun, helps him in small things, keeps his secrets, asks him on dates and clearly wants more than fwb. i know that the vibe is off bc of mediocre writing, but for now Jun is that korean female lead – naive, clumsy, stubborn and powerless, and Sorn is their romantic interest – "badboy", horny, jealous and protective. Yeah, for now Sorn frequently calls Jun "stubborn".
So idk, i guess later jun will ask sorn out and will get rejected due to his previous traumatic experience... for now it seems like the opposite would be more natural.
