I don't think any other Marquis / General can come as close to Xie Zheng ever in cdramas he is inimitableš„
Well, for me, Marquis is clearly inferior to Song Mo. I even think the ML from the "Romance of the female general" was better/more imposing, despite the "PoJ" being clearly a superior show.
Historically Tiger Tallies expressed the power of command of the Main General in a particular war expedition.…
Yeah, I get this one. Thank you.
I just don't get why Qing Mi expected his half to work against Changyu as some kind of master setup? It was a reason why he allowed Qianqian to steal it. And yet, during the confrontation in the Court, nothing seemed to happen with it the way he expected.
Is there any particular reason why this Drama doesn't have a "Smart Female Lead" tag? Is this like a "Nothing gold can stay", where the FL, despite having great business instincts, was surprisingly clueless in other societal and political things? Or it's just an irrational skip?
Could someone explain to me what the deal was with Qi Min's Tiger Tally that Qianqian has stolen and passed to her maid - apparently, he expected it to happen, and it was supposed to help in some kind of master plan, but I just don't get the use of it.
The other Tiger tally, the one from the other crazy brother, that a bandit lady brought to Changyu, obviously, was to help clear Changyu's dad's name. So this one is understandable.
Iām just ranting here, so donāt read if you canāt handle it lol. This drama left me scratching my head. They…
Good post. It's understandable when the writers don't know what to do with the FLs during rebellion/war when they don't have combat skills (hello "Prisoner of Beauty"), but Changyu actually had them in spades, so not using her at all after such a strong build-up made absolutely no sense.
Btw, if someone wants to watch more action of the woman making bad guys into cutlets using a butcher's cleaver, this is the only other Drama having it a little bit (watching the initial 10-15 minutes is enough, as she was a side character there) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnAjLOO8d0s
Can someone please recommend me other Chinese dramas with this type of plot besides the double?
Due to FL's brilliance and her ability to navigate a truly perilous situation, watching at least the initial 10 episodes of Prisoner of Beauty could also work for you.
I didn't read a novel, and after the fiasco of " Legend of the Female General", I lowered my expectations a lot. Fortunately, "Pursuit of Jade" proved to be a decent watch.
I agree that the time in Lina'an was the best, but it also has a paradox that if they had spent 5 episodes less there, they would have had time to develop a better story, making the final product even more enjoyable.
Still, it was good, helped a lot by the fact that not only was the FL so damm likeable, but also, which is very rare, the writers had the guts to create a Power Couple (in the aspect of fighting) where the FL rescues the ML as much as he rescues her. Which rarely happens. The only thing I truly disliked about her was not using a butcher's cleaver in the 2nd part; double swords felt like a totally wrong choice for her character and skillset.
I don't care much about the ML, but at least I didn't want him to die every 5 minutes (like the one in "The Double", for example), meaning he was better than average in Idol Dramas, at least. I liked Blossom's Song Mo much more, though.
I also found the kids to be incredibly adorable, and I really liked QianQian, Princess Shu, Guard Jin and Wei Yan. I didn't care much about crazy villainous brothers, and also, I didn't like the whitewashing of villains and putting the blame on the old Emperor. OST was great too.
If I had to put my recent C-Drama tourism in order from best to worst (among the ones I was able to finish, as, for example, I dropped Shadow Love after Episode 2), it would look like this: Blossom > Flourished Peony > "Pursuit of Jade" > Prisoner of Beauty > Are you the One > Romance of the Female Soldier, with a note that due to the FL's perilous situation, making her brilliance shine in Episodes 1-10 of "PoB", I find it to have a higher re-watch value than all aferomentioned Dramas except of the Blossom.
On my harsh scale (I feel a much stronger connection to Douban rating compared to the MDL's), where the Nirana in Fire is the only show rated at 9/10, "PoJ" is probably around 6/10, maybe 6.5/10. Which is good enough to watch.

But the synopsis still sounds so interesting, so maybe I will try again.

I believe, even the ML had one of them :).
2) Yes
"Pursuit of Jade" has a better, and rare Power Couple where the female lead rescues the ML as often as he rescues her.
Yes, I know it's an obscure choice ;).
