I love this show and if it's successful, there will be more shows like this in the future. The actors/directors/producers/screenwriters could get better deals or opportunities for their next projects.

In the novel when she breaks up with him and leaves the town, she tells him she hasn't ever loved him, that it was all a scheme. Her reasoning is he will get over her more quickly if he hates her. She's 16, so it figures.

I really like the drama, but I'm highly skeptical that it will reach even a 29k heat index as the heat index from yesterday was lower than the one from the previous Saturday.
I'm not sure why the drama is not a major hit in China, the quality of production, cinematography, acting, music and script makes it a contender for best historical dramas of 2026.
On weibo it's currently rated 8.7, which is great, so it's not like it didn't live up to expectations. It's just that for some reason not enough people are watching it.

MangoTV has fixed their subtitles issues. I watched the last 3 dramas they produced (A Splendid Match, Dazzling and Never-Ending Summer) and they all have great subtitles, sometimes even better than Viki.

They have improved a lot. I purchased a subscription for A Splendid Match and their subtitles were better than the ones on Viki! I was astounded to say the least.
I watched a bit of Dazzling and I'm up-to-date with Never-Ending Summer and it's all good until now.
The only downside is you cannot watch the express episode on TV (but neither can you do it on weTV I noticed).

In the novel her mother came back to ask FL for money saying she was in debt due to illness (actually she had borrowed a lot to keep up her lifestyle) and when FL refused, she went to gossip sheets to sell her story about how unfillial her daughter was and that FL hooked up with ML to ruin her marriage. FL gave an interview about how her mom abandoned her and didn't want to have anything to do with her and that she caused an earlier death for both FL's father and grandmother. (The father had a brain tumour that he decided not to treat so their family could have money to live comfortably after he died, and the mother did not try to change his mind, and she convinced the grandmother not to accept the kidney transplate since it would leave FL in debt. The mother also cheated on FL's father before he died and abandoned FL in less than a month after the father died)
She died after falling down some stairs while running away from loan sharks.

Most of the novel takes place in high-school, but they are in what would be junior year in high-school (2 years away from uni), here they were seniors one month away from graduation.

Maybe it's the Dragon Boat Festival's fault? Maybe the people in charge of the airing calendar decided to reduce the number of episodes aired during a time when everyone is on holiday and outdoors.

FL's mother abandoned her as a child and hooked up with the ML's father, they have not been in contact since, the parents have not gotten married and the kids grew up separately without knowing there is a connection, they met as classmates in high-school.
