This is a total mess for me and I couldn't even finish 2 episodes but can we talk about how the top's face looks entirely synthetic? It’s giving uncanny valley, like he’s wearing a human skin mask glued on by a prop department. So weird

"Take time to process and understand the scenes"? only works when there’s an actual plot 💀
Oh, and as for my time? I have plenty of time to watch 3,000 shows and read as many manhwas as I want, so don't worry about me :) I stuck around for 9 episodes to give it a fair chance in hopes that it might improve since the start wasn't that bad, but mistaking low-effort production, bad acting and messy editing for "subtle storytelling" is crazy.😭

Filler episode for a filler show—OMG. With only two episodes left, I didn't want to drop it, so I'm pushing through, but the acting and direction are just insufferable.
The opening scene with the kitchen porridge was painfully awkward, but nothing compares to the emotional whiplash of that death call: "Hey, dad was hospitalized for surgery." — "Oh, is he ok now?" — "Oh no, he's actually dead LOL."
The dialogue is barely there, replaced by long, uncomfortable silences. And right after that "sad" moment (where Dean’s supposed emotional suppression completely failed), we instantly jump to a random, sugary-sweet TenPun scene. Zero pacing, and the background music never fits the mood.
I initially thought William's acting was the weak link, but Est is just as bad. Nobody cares about this late-game dad death arc anyway. When a character's only trait for nine episodes was being a well-known manwhore, injecting an unearned trauma crisis right at the end is useless. We already knew he struggled with his emotions!
And that funeral scene with the mistress? Why was the acting so extra terrible there? No one was doing well, it was just bad across the board.
Please send these actors to acting school, hire better scriptwriters, and stop relying on braindead fan service to trick people into believing the pairings are dating in real life. Fan service can't hide sloppy writing/acting. One episode left and we're still stuck with "are we dating or are we not?", seriously since the first episode nothing has changed.
The fans with their AI-generated positive comments will call me a hater, but giving You Maniac an actual shot proves I'm not and I don't discriminate against actors, I give almost everything a chance. This company needs to invest in real scripts and acting classes.

Critiquing an actor's performance as a viewer is called evaluating a finished product, not applying for the job. Telling someone to 'go act it yourself' just proves you ran out of actual arguments.

There is a huge difference between playing a stoic/suppressed character and delivering a flat performance. Stoic characters are supposed to suppress deep feelings, not feel completely empty. Great actors playing rigid, military-trained roles still convey emotion through subtle micro-expressions, a shift in the eyes, tension in the jaw, or subtle changes in body language to show the human being underneath the mask. Without those subtle reactions, there’s no subtext or on-screen chemistry, making the scenes feel completely one-sided. Again a perfect example would be the Lead in Mo Li. Have a good day :)

I believe you, I haven't seen that show but yeah it's what the director is asking from him most likely in this one. It's just something that was worth noting, didn't think it would trigger people wow.

Where did I say that I needed him to have more screen time?? I'm perfectly happy with the pacing of this show!!
I'm talking about how the actor has had one expression since episode 1. Female centric ( which I love) or not, acting should be better. A perfect example would be "mo li" with Bai lu, it was such a good drama and very much female centric and the actor still did a fantastic job " serving the FL" and giving us a nice acting performance.

I'm quite enjoying this drama for now, but I must say that the actor who plays the ML truly has had one expression since episode 1 and I'm kinda sick of it. The FL is carrying this show and her performance is amazing. I know that the story is about her and he's not that important...which I like, because I do enjoy female-centric plots—but please give us something with the ML? There's no chemistry between them, but again, it's because he has one expression: just brooding. I hope the story develops more and maybe with that he will give us something more to work with here. It's not enough to just be hot and stare at the camera, sadly for me. Anyway, the plot is nice and again, the actress is doing a fantastic job.

Especially that smug face, like when he shared his first kiss in the elevator with Moth, he did that I'm impressed look or idk how to describe it, then I noticed that he was doing that in practically every episode. I was also surprised to see the same expressions he had as Rome again as Dean. So maybe he just plays himself instead of giving each character different layers.

Does this company have some kind of dog kink? It honestly disgusts me every time they make the tops act like dogs and insert those barking/panting sound effects. I couldn't even finish watching DWY because of that...especially the tongue-sticking-out moments. They kept adding those sounds whenever RenjiTime were on screen, and now they're doing it with ThirdWan.
Speaking of ThirdWan, they’ve turned Third into such a ridiculous character. (not because he's being goofy around his boyfriend that's actually nice). It's that he completely lacks depth and layers. At first, I thought he was going to have a compelling personality, but there's nothing there. At least Nine actually has clear motivations and feels like a somewhat layered character who brings some needed drama to the plot.
I completely lost it when Third pulled down his pants and briefs at the exact same time omg why did that crack me up so much? The scene was supposed to feel raw and "realistic", but that specific moment completely killed me. As for Wan, he's been the exact same since episode one: completely clueless and stuck in that cliché "dumb bottom" trope.
Overall, Mr. Fanboy had so much potential at the beginning, but the plot has completely stalled out now.

I just watched Episode 8, and honestly, this snooze-fest has been a struggle to get through for a while now.
The main issue? Moth. This episode confirmed everything I’ve been thinking about him: he is the biggest "pick-me." At first, I just found him obnoxious and snobbish, but I held out hope that he’d get some actual character development. Instead, he’s somehow gotten worse. I’ve always said he’s a terrible friend, but this episode was the final nail in the coffin.
The absolute audacity of him to call his supposedly close friend, who is finally happy just to tell him he should "wait to find a better boyfriend than Ten"? EXCUSE ME? Were you not the exact person who plotted this whole thing? Didn't you team up with Dean specifically to get Pun to fall for Ten so he would leave you alone?
So basically, if Moth isn't happy, nobody gets to be? Not even his closest friend?
Thankfully, Pun is a total green flag. He didn't care about a single word his toxic friend had to say and actually acted like a decent, supportive partner.
Beyond the infuriating character writing, I had to fast-forward through so many scenes because I was dying of boredom. And that painting? Hideous. After the whole drama-filled setup, I thought he was going to whip out a Van Gogh-level masterpiece, only for it to look like a beginner's weekend craft project.
What pisses me off the most is that this show is forcing a "pick-me" on us as a main lead. At this point, I’m just praying Pun completely cuts Moth off once he finds out about the original master plan.
With only two episodes left, I’ll probably skip through more than half of them just to reach the end. Giving this show an 8.6 is an absolute joke!! Blind shippers really do work harder than the devil.

I just finished episode 3 and I have a few thoughts.
First off, I love when BL dramas cast actors who don't exclusively do BL. You can really tell the difference in acting caliber between actors with broader experience and those who stick strictly to one genre. The more an actor explores different genres and plays opposite different genders, the more versatile they become. A great example is Toey in Nour, who completely stole the show. Bank is doing a phenomenal job here as well, his facial expressions are so nuanced, and he is doing the character complete justice.
Now, regarding that BJ scene in episode 3: I have a huge problem with it.
Then again, remembering this is based on a Chinese novel explains why it happened. I’ve left countless comments on Chinese web novels—both BG and BL—calling out this exact, tired formula: someone gets taken advantage of while drunk. I’ve said repeatedly that this trope needs to stop. It reminds me of a novel where I hated the male lead because he slept with the female lead for the first time while she was intoxicated, and they started dating right after. It wasn't framed as explicit non-con—just two attracted people where one was sober and the other wasn't, but it is insanely problematic.
I constantly have to remind myself that it's just fiction and not to take it too much to heart, but it's still deeply messed up. People online are calling Yok the red flag here. Sure, he might be, but does that justify him being subjected to a forced sexual act while completely knocked out? Absolutely not. Showing a physical reaction doesn't mean anything......that's just a natural physiological response when someone is under the influence.
All that said, Bank’s performance is fantastic, and the high production value sets it apart from so many lower-budget BLs I couldn't even bring myself to finish. Let's see how the rest of the show plays out! I just hope we don't get swamped with so many unnecessary couples per the usual BL formula and have them pushed down our throats with no actual plot.

I have the right to call out the AI level plot and the mediocre acting on this page since it's the whole purpose.
