My Critique , MY OPINION
I think the plot is shit. Honestly the production is okay, the acting/cast i LOVE. but gurl why are we making a story about a freaking 30 yr old with an 18 yr old that shit is weird. YES she is technically an "adult" but NO still not acceptable, they met when she was 15 mind you. Im all for age gaps but why is it that minors always have to be involved. age gaps are acceptable with the right age!! Yes, yes, this is historical whatever that still doesn't make it okay.
What makes a cdrama intriguing is also their political plots. However the political plot is shit in this, like it took me a few more episodes to actually understand their branches/loyalty or like power dynamic, their positions in their family. It took me few eps just to get what they established in ep 1 : why they dont like eachother, whos loyal to who, what they were trying to achieve. like its not confusing, they make it confusing, i dont like their delivery in this. It felt bland and it SHOULD be interesting:/. and also how old is the new emperor, shouldnt there be a royal regent to make decisions for him until he is the right age?
Could've explored jin zhao's business but they instead flew past it. Like no build up whatsoever, not truly showcasing her ability in business just ouright said it like okay..My gurl is rich but i dont like the fact that they make it seem that its only because of her maternal family supporting her. SHE HAS HER OWN BUSINESSES like damn. couldve showcased that she learned from her grandma whatever.
They had such good other love interests in this and now im like wondering if this isn't cdrama, I for sure think that she would've only chosen the ML because a. either groomed or b. he is rich. Also i had to revisit this series like 3 times for the last i actually have to lock in to get to 30 eps. they went from non-existent romance in the beginning to picking up WAY to fast on the second half.
I did find the ml and fl cast very cute, just the age mann...
ALSO THE TIME is so confusing as hell like wdym she went in tongzhou for how many years idk to mourn?. AND the going back and fort with tongzhou and the capital like wow i thought a few mins ago u were in the capital why are u in tongzhou all of a sudden.
