So you are saying this after watching all 5 episodes haha. Then just don't continue to watch it. Easy.
What does it matter how many episodes I’ve watched? 2, 5, or 8... . at the end of the day, I’m just expressing a different opinion than yours, and that’s totally fine. that’s what this websitr is for, a variety of opinions.

Okay, I’ll just say it, i'm not feeling the hype for this romcom. not at all.
I loved Lim ji yeon in her previous works (at least the ones I’ve seen). I think she’s an excellent actress.
In My Royal Nemesis, in my opinion at least, her character is annoying! You can tell LJY went to the edge of her abilities and beyond here, way too much. her character is over the top, loud, arrogant, and cartoonish, not cute (those exaggerated facial expressions). I get that she’s supposed to be a 'fish out of water' and different from everyone else, but it comes off as weird in a bad way and incredibly forced. that constant talking to herself doesn't help either.
I also have to mention the airplane scene. it was so ridiculous! totally logical that she’d volunteer as the doctor on call just to save the ML's life, right? And how do we spice up the scene and boost ratings? Let’s go with the 'safe' recipe and have her slap him repeatedly- classic slapstick humor. the peak was when he electrocuted her (again, those facial expressions). seriously, what’s funny about that? It’s humor for 5 year olds.
The ML himself fits the character he’s playing, but I don’t see any chemistry between them, also not visually.
their story feels forced and predictable. I feel that he likes her, i don't feel she likes him. it feels like their relationship is being built in an artificial way rather than from a genuine emotional connection and true familiarity. In my opinion, the vibe of this romcom is like: Here’s a funny scene—laugh. here’s a heartbreaking scene—cry.
It lacks any real depth.

I was so head over heels for this, but now I'm bored to death. They had a real opportunity to create something…
I agree with you. I felt it right from the start. I gave it a chance despite knowing it would probably be a low level, shallow romcom with childish humor, so I didn't come in expecting a masterpiece. these types of romcoms are designed just to sell, create hype, and get high ratings at the expense of depth and quality. There are romcoms that are well written, truly moving, and funny, but in my opinion, this isn't one of them. I honestly don't get all the hype surrounding it. It feels like the more formulaic and childish a show is, the more successful it becomes, but whatever.

Excuse me, it seems that you have never watched rom-coms before. You are too nitpicky about romantic comedies.
Just because I don't track everything on my drama list , doesn't mean I haven't watched it. I don't really care about updating my profile, I just enjoy the romcom and sometimes i write my review here. it's very simple : )

After watching several romcoms since Nice to Not Meet You ended, I’ve come to realize just how rare and special this romcom truly is. In a genre that can sometimes feel a bit formulaic, NTNMY stands out as a masterpiece built on profound emotional depth and a captivating soul.
The chemistry between Lee Jung jae and Lim Ji yeon was incredible and I sincerely hope they collaborate again one day. what sets this romcom apart is its quiet, realism. it doesn't rely on being glittery or over the top. Instead, it offers pure storytelling that stays with you long after the final episode.
The scene where Wi Jung sin shares her healing methodstanding before the sun and stroking her own head to feel a sense of comfort as someone who lost her parents, is a moment of pure art. It’s heart wrenching, authentic, and unforgettable. This is exactly what a romcom looks like when it’s crafted with genuine heart and meaning.

The fact that I don’t like kitschy and childish romcoms doesn't mean I'm nitpicky. I’ve watched quite a few romcoms, i just connect more to realistic ones that are well written and have real depth. that’s why MRN isn’t for me.

I agree with every word you said.
It feels like this romcom lacks any depth, substance, or logical progression. The humor is painfully childish, and the female lead is overly extroverted and annoying.
Unlike many other viewers, I don't feel any chemistry between the main couple. their meeting and the whole 'destiny' trope tying them together feels completely forced. I've noticed that most people prefer cheesy, formulaic rom-coms over high-quality, truly good writing, and this is exactly the case here

it’s an SBS product, so it was clear to me that this romcom wouldn't be any good. It seems like SBS has a recurring pattern of creating flashy, over the top romcoms with aggressive marketing, but in reality, they’re shallow and low-quality

what do you mean top tier? He is Squid Games ... and what else... ?
If you weren’t aware until now of just how much of a superstar Lee Jung jae is, not only in South Korea but worldwide, it’s never too late to find out! :)
Lee Jung jae had a magnificent and successful career in South Korea long before Squid Game. Series like Sandglass in his youth, and movies such as New World, The Housemaid, The Thieves, and many others, elevated him to the status of a massive star. He has won numerous awards throughout his career. Squid Game was more than just a success, it was a phenomenon that shattered every possible glass ceiling and paved the way for every K-drama you see today. Lee Jung jae became an international star after his phenomenal performance in Squid Game, for which he even won an Emmy Award. He was the first Asian actor to ever win this prestigious award for Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
When you wrote now that I know he’s from Squid Game, everything makes sense what did you mean?
As for his character as Lim Hyeon jun, yes, he acted like a diva and complained a lot, but that’s the whole charm and comedy of the character. It’s fun to see a character on screen who isn't perfect. As the plot progressed, we saw what a good, romantic, and brave guy he is, and all those "diva" mannerisms disappeared by that stage. In my opinion, he played the role with so much charm and was so natural, funny and cute. that's what i call a phenomenal acting!

Wait, the ML from Nice to not meet you is Cheesy? we're talking about Lee Jung jae- a top-tier actor who was brilliant as Lim Hyun-jun. but ok, that's your opinion...

Totally! his acting is so stiff and one-dimensional. People think he’s handsome, and to attract more female…

Idk who thought it was good idea to give this actor lead roles honestly he's so awkward and stiff it's literally…
Totally! his acting is so stiff and one-dimensional. People think he’s handsome, and to attract more female viewers, he clearly needs to do some fan service—that shirtless scene of his is just screaming it lol.

A low-quality romcom, full of clichés and childish humor, that falls into superficiality. After finishing the second episode, I already realized where it was heading .this romcom mainly focuses on tropes, 'fireworks' (over-the-top moments), and exaggerated acting. It’s clear that Lim Ji-yeon, who usually knows how to pick excellent and high-quality projects, chose to go commercial this time. Her acting is overdone and her character is annoying and grotesque.
i also don't like the ml and their paring.

My royal dissapointment- that's good! 🤣🤣
Your review is so accurate! I love those quiet, grounded rom-coms that focus on heart and acting rather than all the hype and fireworks. Honestly, tvN’s dramas are on a different level compared to SBS. Such a shame about Lim Ji-yeon; it feels like she's just chasing commercial success

This drama feels like it’s in “don’t ask questions, just consume” mode. The main character is literally…
I 100% agree with you. It’s a romcom that’s just a circus full of clichés and fireworks. it falls into shallowness, and that’s exactly what I expected.

i feel the same way
I guess those are the kind of rom-coms people like the most. I really don’t get it! I prefer quality, mature romcoms with a good story, great acting, and some real depth. That’s just not the case here

I’ve watched the two episodes so far, but honestly it feels very generic like something I’ve seen many times…
agree with every word. I can already tell this romcom is overrated. to me, it's just a lot of gimmicks, a ridiculous plot, and childish humor. I usually like Lim Ji-yeon, but I'm not a fan of her character or her acting here, same goes for Heo Nam-jun.

anyone recommend this?
I definitely recommend it, if you like the main couple, i think they are great! the series is unique and different from what we usually see in roncoms , in a good way in my opinion. It's funny, witty, moving, deep, and intelligent. there's something authentic and realistic about it.

The fact he is only three years younger but she looks like his aunt.....
I thought I was the only one who felt that way! She really does look a bit older than him, and besides, I don’t think they look good together as a couple. anyway, I’ll give it a chance because if think she's a great actress.
