Oh, I don't mind, I liked reading your thoughts! There were some comments expressing annoyance or irritation with LX after getting married. This is just me paraphrasing, but they tended to feel after a certain point of episodes/passage of time in the show she was going too far or being too cold, and was being unreasonable. For my part I think everything LX has done has been in character, consistent to who she is and what she believes in. I also think that period was really important and necessary to shown on screen. It was important for LX and LJQ's individual character growth, and for their relationship development.

It's basically there in the text of the show, and I was afraid I would end up writing an essay length comment when it could be summed up that way instead. I recommend rewatching or thinking back to Xing Tang's monologues & LJQ's self reflection in conversation with LX after that major event had wrapped up from eps 36 and 37, and keep in mind LX's origin story. LJQ was also often saying things to be supportive or encouraging but actually kept saying things that just made everything worse LOL (especially with the added context of LX's true identity) 😂💀
The other important thing to consider is the broader historical and cultural context of the society they live in, where women are more property than people, be it of their fathers or their husbands. You have texts like Lessons for Women, and households like Xing Tang's which forbid her from learning how to read or have too many skills because of their very traditional views on what women should be.

Rewatching is always so rewarding! I always notice stuff I didn't the first time in well done dramas. Even the third and fourth can give you different experiences, different feelings about the characters, etc. It's so fun

From what I've seen of other comments, in the source material Lan Xiang isn't the same as the Shen girl (at least, not in the same body). She could also be a transmigrator from modern times... Ming Lan's source material was like that, and there is a character in another show who is like that, and generally it puts an emphasis on women's sociopolitical issues that creates monologues like Xing Tang's (while also somewhat patting modern society on the back for having come oh so far, even though...lol). Actually, I prefer the changes to Against the Current and Ming Lan by writing out the transmigration completely. Both are done in a way that makes sense and adds more emotional depth and character. It's an improvement imo

I do like it because usually it's one or the other: 1. the maid vents the lady's true feelings in her place while she gets to wave it off as her maid being rude, or 2. the maid is the one manipulating (or helping to) her as she grows.
In the case of Ya Ke, it's kind of both and also neither of them. Ya Ke is weak of mind and character from the beginning. Even though she dared to betray her best friend and ruin her life, she never once took accountability and instead clung to the maid's words as an excuse to justify it all and live with herself. If she didn't already have a poor personality, she wouldn't have immediately accepted the maid's words every time and enabled her to say such things.

Seeing her with an assassin character in MJTY was so refreshing by comparison. Both voice and personality of her bubbly characters are hard to swallow, and I had to watch the first 7+ episodes of LBFAD on 2x speed. It was a struggle but I did get invested and enjoyed the drama. but I feel dismay every time I watch one of her works and she has to do the same thing... It's not her fault and she isn't the only actress who gets these roles, but she seems like the main casting choice for them
Anyway I got through LBFAD and enjoyed it so I was able to get through this and enjoy it - but it's definitely in spite of her extreme cute and pure act, not because of it lol

I just finished the show and can only assume we get such a vague end bc of censorship board, but it's unsatisfying because the last we see of the world they saved was still under the red moon. I wanted to see what happened to Fu Yi and Mu Yao! It's also too sad if there is no Mu Yao counterpart in real life. He needs his sister T_T I need the 4 bamboo masters to keep their promise

It's a great show! It doesn't become an entirely different drama after episode 19 despite the changes - this plot has been overarching and long set up from episode 1, and painstakingly built towards while taking it's time to get you emotionally invested in what's at stake. The plot was always there, it was always happening, and it was never going to be a simple fluff slice of life

Miss Wu admires Tingyun and has alreadychanged her aspirations to be like her. At this time when YJX is the most lovelorn over TY, this girl who has had her way of thinking changed towards a vision of independence like TY appears. Personally, I don't think it will change YJX for the better, but I think Miss Wu can give us a satisfying end to his arc while hopefully rising above him on her own. I really don't see her shaping him into a better man and becoming a good power couple like the main leads. Thematically, her marriage as a concubine already places her on unequal footing with him, and once he sees the traits in her that he likes in TY, it'll likely only feed into his delulu tbh. (Tho I guess there's also a chance he once again doesn't see something for it's true nature until it's gone/too late, that loser). I can only hope Miss Wu gets a chance to somehow make her own life for herself and come out of it all a stronger person.
