Whether you laugh at me or with me, I'm happy to bring on laughter😉. I won't read other reviews before weighing in because I found it would corrupt my opinions. So i wait until I post mine and then cneck out what others say. I was astounded here. People whom I generally respect, many of whom seem more tender-hearted than I, were applauding it - it reeks of group-think to me. I actually think my ratings are inflated; a point could probably be deducted from each one for greater accuracy. I want to love every show I watch and get no joy from being critical. I've also been enjoying my conspiracy theories, lately. I'm an avid sci-fi reader and the top authors of the world never came up with the stuff that's on Twitter/ X. Who knows if any of it is true? But then they go make a show that checks so many boxes. ... Hmmm. things thst make us go hmmmmm...
You just summed up every single thought I had while watching this. I know it's an old drama but I'm only just…
Hi! It is so nice to not feel alone, lol. My name is actually Joy, so I feel a double connection to you. If I had not seen Oh My Ghost first, maybe I would have been more generous. Have you seen that one? The 4 leads are astounding, and there isn't 1 stray or wasted piece of dialogue. It all points to something else. I actually attempt to be generous in my reviews; I get no 'joy' in tearing others down. But I won't say "Thanks" for gettjng a pizza delivered upside down either.
I also think that those new to Kdramas, and Eastern Asian programming in general, will inflate their scores out of the sheer 'joy' of finding good/better entertainment, which has become too scarce coming out of Hollywood. Finally, if a poorly done show pushes the right 'emotional buttons' for a viewer, their score will reflect it. That's squishier. Who can tell someone that their emotional satisfaction from an illogical show is invalid? I'm usually within a point, either way, of the crowd. The fun comes in when people are all over the place. That's when we know we have a logic V emotions argument, and they aren't winnable! Tee-hee. Happy viewing to you!
how to take drama reviews too seriously 101. what in the world? 🤣
I appreciate the sentiment. Can't say you're wrong. All I can say is that I'm in a weird spot. I almost died last year from medical malpractice, hit bottom, and my outlook is pretty serious right now. Idk what I would have done without Asian programming. I write to try and keep my brain active and believe that writers, directors, and even the actors are all sending a message - especially for the writers it's not all meaningless entertainment. Keeping things light is important but learning and changing for the better it also important. The fact that I have friends and family grappling with these issues right now certainly shaded how I see things. I never expected to be one of the cool kids on MDL. Even if you are laughing at me, I'm happy I could make you chuckle.
