What I gather is -- There is official 8 ep version out there (I am assuming that is what aired). End of ep 8 says "end of Season 1" and as far as I know there is no Season 2. On the DVD version, there are uncut scenes of a couple of ep that are very short ~ .5 - 1.5 min. There is a "special ep." There are some bts. Many staged for shippers (narrator aggressively and blatantly hounding for something juicy). One I remember is way spicy-- a bts clip of an uncut clip of the scene where WSW is crying for himself while CC is divulging his past. There is an uncut ep with an impressive bed scene (I can no longer find, watched 1-2 yr ago) that was more Thai bl style than C bl. Maybe someone out there knows where it is.

Look up under tl AnneNoh or lalaland_x. Novel Updates shows tl if you ever hit a brick wall. I prefer/recommend both AnneNoh and lalaland. I can't read any Chinese dialect and have never lived there so I completely rely on a good translation. CJD's use of literary devices, slang, and her style, coupled with different wording and vibes of tl made me decide to read simultaneously when possible. I was very happy and appreciate the efforts of lalaland (not sure if one person or team) and AnneNoh's team.
If you haven't read it, the series makes no sense bc it's basically a few highlights and character visuals. I doubt there could ever be a good adaptation 1) you can't get around the smut without also losing the humor, vibe....tbh just everything 2) inability to fit in the jam packed (and highly entertaining) nonsense (the essence of WSW) in a series 3) even if NC 17, it would be immensely challenging to incorp the blend of ridiculous, twisted & dark subjects invaluable to understanding the characters, and explicit scenes cohesively. If any future adaptation proves me wrong, I'd be delighted, but realistically, it's not going to happen.
If you like this and are okay with EXPLICIT content (deserving of all caps) & dark, controversial comedy-- although challenging to find (in Eng tl still only to ch 175/machine tl is worthless), you should read it to understand & appreciate what they are trying to pull off with the series/ limited resources. Otherwise, even though it holds value for what it does manage to throw out there, neg reviews are accurate as there is no context, cohesiveness, etc.
**Important Note about Counterattack/ Ni Xi. A huge issue most people (myself incl) have with (the novel) is that it contains racism (CC's sister married a black man and has twins, one with light complexion and one with dark complexion) which is normalized both by family and outsiders (comment/jokes that no character thinks twice about). I hate racist mentality, and believe the normalization of racism should be revised out and not included in any future adaptation. As for racism in itself, I have mixed feelings about omitting it entirely due to cultural context. As of 2025, we live in a racist world with many people trapped in that mindset. The presence of it onscreen and written is a snapshot of cultural mentality. It is much easier to stomach in a historical setting... but let's face it, pretending it doesn't exist in modern pieces isn't healthy either. I am not CJD and I am not qualified to judge anyone nor presume to understand their personal feelings. But I do feel strongly that if racism is included in a work, regardless as a side note or major theme, normalization should be avoided. Normalization doesn't just upset people-- it seeds violence, bullying , and most important, strips people of dignity and human rights. Even though I am very much opposed to censorship, if people can and are suffering, fueling ignorance should stop. I appologize that this turned into soapbox note but I feel it is necessary to thoroughly explain where my comments are coming from.
Important to note: There are two key factors I see missing from commentaries and I would like to call attention to them. First, it is crucial to consider the mindset of Tian Yu to truly follow the narration and flow of the story. He is a writer, sensitive, artistic, and yearns. Second, an important element of the film is the intertwining of some old Taiwanese folk beliefs and modern perspective that places it into a subtle magical realism category. When viewed in this context, the film shines brilliantly.
This is a quality film that feels authentic and sincere. It was well written and across the board well executed. I love the inclusion of past and present elements of Taiwanese culture as well as including the good/bad/inbetween, happiness/despair, and even tragedy. It's beauty omits unnecessary powdered sugar and glitter and I wholeheartedly appreciate that. I highly rate and recommend. Kudos to everyone involved.
She was shat upon since she was really young, used as a pay check by her family, gave numerous cries for help, etc, and everyone just sat back and watched. So terribly sad. I was rooting for her.
It made me laugh, cry, and laugh while crying (no small feat). You know from the first scene what you are getting into. If you want to watch an amazing series, go for it. If you need to feel comforted and warm/cozy at the end, you need to pass up (but you will def miss out).
For the genre and budget, it was fairly good. The series had an impressive amount of passionate kissing scenes (esp for Cdrama). Caution- if plot holes bother you, the last 3rd of the series might be rough.

The answer is the basically the main storyline of the series. If I answered, it would ruin abt 75% of the show. What I will say is that I found it interesting and multilayered (there are many angles to the complete answer dispursed throughout the series).

My impression is that in both times 1. they were childhood friends, 2. he fell in love with her when she was little, and 3. she genuinely liked him since they were young. I think in the first timeline, he wasn't an option for marriage and after her relationship with PWX, she fell in love with PWX and saved SRQ because he was her friend and a good person.
After her marriage fell apart, she became close again/kept SRQ by her side and fell in love with him (he was already in love with her and was happy to take PWX's place as he was considered an unloving husband at that time).
Even though in the second timeline, when SRQ reveals his secrets to her and she says she regrets saving him, she doesn't behave that way after she comes out of shock. I think she never regretted saving him. She was very disappointed in him and sad about his choices but she didn't regret the choice she made.
Many c (hist) dramas have been boring me lately, but I decided to give this a go. I generally liked it and watched all 40 ep (a feat for me). Tbs, I would have liked it much more without the last half of the last episode. The last half of the last ep felt like some subpar piece attached at the end. I haven't read it so I don't know if that is the original ending and if so if I would have liked the book better. As for the series, it didn't work for me (but I liked the rest).
Someone writing this has had experiences with very immature girlfriends. In our story, there are quite the variety of what not to do girlfriends. And that is where the FF function on the remote came in quite handy. That being said, Chen Bo Lin.

Apparently someone got really, really strunk before writing episode 12. It ruined the entire series for me. I seriously can't understand where in the hell this episode came from and why anyone allowed it to pass go.
