Impressive. Seriously. That is some %$* chemistry.
Another newer Thai BL blowing everything out of the water and defying the Thai bubble bl stereotype... Reset, so far, is right up there with 4 min. I like 4 min vibe a bit more but the chemistry on Reset is goat af.
Bittersweet, powerful, and well done. Beautiful cinematography. Wichapas Sumettikul (Bible) is a phenom!! Side note, how he manages to focus with the King of the Loving Gaze (aka Jespipat Tilapornputt) looking into his eyes is beyond me.
Starting w/ a scene from bk 2 before the beginning of bk 1-- Great move! The so-called casting controversy?August and Mac are ACTORS, so the age gap doesn't bother me in the slightest. What would be bad is if the actors lost the roles due to age discrimination regardless of their abilities. Imo they looked and played the part well. Isn't that what is supposed to happen? As a fan of the orig/pulled series and the novel, I won't lie, it was an adjustment to watch. S1 is kinda adapted from book 1 -- minus things that obvi need not be on screen and adding the "standard Thai bl adaptation" package incl festival, temple, color scheme, music, and even with the whole let's actively shoot and blow sh*t up moments, I was still ready for love bubbles to spotaneously descend from above. I prefer the grit but I am glad they didn't copy and paste. I feel taking Addicted on as a series is probably an insane task balancing what you want to do, precedent, and making amends for the disruption and removal of past attempts, and noting the mindblowing ordeal where humans were banned from interacting outside of said series itself (justice forTimmy and Johnny ffs). Then the fans, we all have opinions before even going in. So kudos for people that are brave enough to try.
No doubt S2 will be what most long time fans are most curious about. Will it be true to story? Obvi there will be quite a few scenes that won't make it (nor should they be in there). A forum poster commented a while back that bk 2 would be impossible because the content is intertwined with the Chinese military. I think if Thailand wants to go that route, they may just pull it off. We'll see.
Do you know where I can read story with English translation?
Unfortunately, ot was pulled off Watt this May. I looked around bc I want to reread but haven't seen it. Maybe someone else will reply? If I end up finding something, I will reply with info.
I will sit through it just to see how it pans out, but oh, how I long for Wang Qing, Feng Jian Yu, and floral old lady panties!!! I am a huge fan of Ni Xi / Counterattack. All fans know the orig series really tried, but the cards were stacked against it. I was sooo excited for the remake until it started playing.
Wtw w/ Chi Cheng & Wu Suowei?? It may be a struggle to replace Wang Qing and Feng Jian Yu, but seriously!! WSW is supposed to be reinvented as hot with a sculpted bod that makes his ex eat her heart out and CC is supposed to look extremely intimidating, cut, and is a bdsm rock star who makes men and women alike beg to hook up). Even if I was half blind and drunk in a dimly lit room, I can't even pretend the new cast fits. GCY and JXS cast makes more sense, but they don't look grown up enough to fit the story.
I was really bummed because WSW's old lady undies and ripped, stained wife beater are missing! 😮💨 ignoring that they reveal WSW's character and visually add to the social class dynamics (new, sparkly clinic also ignores the constrasts).
I appreciate that snakes are in it this time (but what's with Jealous' "makeover" 🤬, maybe casting snakes is hard, but still, it's Jealous).
Sorry, I had to get that off of my chest. I know NiXi fans aren't your average bear and may get particular (because it is such a hilarious and clever novel) and I fall into that. I would just be so much more satisfied with a different CC and WSW even if I can't get my Wang Qing, Feng Jian Yu, and floral undies.
Anyone interested in this movie should read Sakarya and Fleffel's reviews before deciding whether or not to watch it. If you don't like the topic/trigger issues, just don't watch it. The above mentioned reviews pretty much say it all, but.....wow. It's likely more accurate than the fluffy historical dramas, but if of you are used to the cookie cutter historical setting kdrama, buckle your seatbelt. Before you get judgemental about the crown prince's behavior, just think right now there one of the most powerful presidents in the world has been proven with solid evidence to be part of sex trafficking including a preferance for under age girls. So with that perspective, nothing is shocking regarding the conduct of the powerful towards girls and women.
Hilarious af. It's a kooky yet clever flat-out comedy. Take it for what it is and sit back and enjoy the ride 🤣 Well, um, I just finished the last ep and what the what?!@^$ That was weird. Now, I understand the rating. If I had a time machine, I'd stop watching before the actual ending. That being said, before that mess of an ending, it was a fun ride.
If you want to watch this with good english subtitles, I highly recommend using the links from this website: https://world-of-bl.com/index.php/China/CounterAttack…
Take this warning seriously. NSFW, make sure fam not around, close the curtains 🤣🤣
Just finished this drama and I have no clue if it was the censored or uncensored version. There was a little bit…
What I gather is -- There is official 8 ep version out there (I am assuming that is what aired). End of ep 8 says "end of Season 1" and as far as I know there is no Season 2. On the DVD version, there are uncut scenes of a couple of ep that are very short ~ .5 - 1.5 min. There is a "special ep." There are some bts. Many staged for shippers (narrator aggressively and blatantly hounding for something juicy). One I remember is way spicy-- a bts clip of an uncut clip of the scene where WSW is crying for himself while CC is divulging his past. There is an uncut ep with an impressive bed scene (I can no longer find, watched 1-2 yr ago) that was more Thai bl style than C bl. Maybe someone out there knows where it is.
It's so bad that it's good...Edit: I take it back. I Loooved it!!! And now I hear there is a novel. Tried to find…
Look up under tl AnneNoh or lalaland_x. Novel Updates shows tl if you ever hit a brick wall. I prefer/recommend both AnneNoh and lalaland. I can't read any Chinese dialect and have never lived there so I completely rely on a good translation. CJD's use of literary devices, slang, and her style, coupled with different wording and vibes of tl made me decide to read simultaneously when possible. I was very happy and appreciate the efforts of lalaland (not sure if one person or team) and AnneNoh's team.
If you haven't read it, the series makes no sense bc it's basically a few highlights and character visuals. I doubt there could ever be a good adaptation 1) you can't get around the smut without also losing the humor, vibe....tbh just everything 2) inability to fit in the jam packed (and highly entertaining) nonsense (the essence of WSW) in a series 3) even if NC 17, it would be immensely challenging to incorp the blend of ridiculous, twisted & dark subjects invaluable to understanding the characters, and explicit scenes cohesively. If any future adaptation proves me wrong, I'd be delighted, but realistically, it's not going to happen.
If you like this and are okay with EXPLICIT content (deserving of all caps) & dark, controversial comedy-- although challenging to find (in Eng tl still only to ch 175/machine tl is worthless), you should read it to understand & appreciate what they are trying to pull off with the series/ limited resources. Otherwise, even though it holds value for what it does manage to throw out there, neg reviews are accurate as there is no context, cohesiveness, etc.
**Important Note about Counterattack/ Ni Xi. A huge issue most people (myself incl) have with (the novel) is that it contains racism (CC's sister married a black man and has twins, one with light complexion and one with dark complexion) which is normalized both by family and outsiders (comment/jokes that no character thinks twice about). I hate racist mentality, and believe the normalization of racism should be revised out and not included in any future adaptation. As for racism in itself, I have mixed feelings about omitting it entirely due to cultural context. As of 2025, we live in a racist world with many people trapped in that mindset. The presence of it onscreen and written is a snapshot of cultural mentality. It is much easier to stomach in a historical setting... but let's face it, pretending it doesn't exist in modern pieces isn't healthy either. I am not CJD and I am not qualified to judge anyone nor presume to understand their personal feelings. But I do feel strongly that if racism is included in a work, regardless as a side note or major theme, normalization should be avoided. Normalization doesn't just upset people-- it seeds violence, bullying , and most important, strips people of dignity and human rights. Even though I am very much opposed to censorship, if people can and are suffering, fueling ignorance should stop. I appologize that this turned into soapbox note but I feel it is necessary to thoroughly explain where my comments are coming from.
Important to note: There are two key factors I see missing from commentaries and I would like to call attention to them. First, it is crucial to consider the mindset of Tian Yu to truly follow the narration and flow of the story. He is a writer, sensitive, artistic, and yearns. Second, an important element of the film is the intertwining of some old Taiwanese folk beliefs and modern perspective that places it into a subtle magical realism category. When viewed in this context, the film shines brilliantly.
This is a quality film that feels authentic and sincere. It was well written and across the board well executed. I love the inclusion of past and present elements of Taiwanese culture as well as including the good/bad/inbetween, happiness/despair, and even tragedy. It's beauty omits unnecessary powdered sugar and glitter and I wholeheartedly appreciate that. I highly rate and recommend. Kudos to everyone involved.
She was shat upon since she was really young, used as a pay check by her family, gave numerous cries for help, etc, and everyone just sat back and watched. So terribly sad. I was rooting for her.
It made me laugh, cry, and laugh while crying (no small feat). You know from the first scene what you are getting into. If you want to watch an amazing series, go for it. If you need to feel comforted and warm/cozy at the end, you need to pass up (but you will def miss out).

I can't find it on the soundtrack or credits. Lyrics: "You keep me hanging like you do...You're cold. Your hands of fire make me cold."
