Hiroki was a gem in this. He (and Shinichi) gave me that exaggerated chaos that usually accompanies comedic manga adaptations (think live-action anime). Mahiro....yeah, bit disappointed there. He was stiff and did something that I see a lot of newer actors do, which is have a phantom of a smile constantly tugging the corners of their mouth. As a result, his expressions were weird and he couldn't quite convey the appropriate emotions needed for many of the scenes, and he looked a little awkward.
I also felt like Hiroki and Shinichi weren't afraid to be over the top and it brought this movie to life, whereas the others were holding back due to inexperience (either in this type of role or in general), discomfort, or something else.
The show is great but istg the way the trial was depicted in episode 12 was beyond ridiculous to me as an attorney lmao. I get it’s a drama and all, and they definitely delivered in the sensationalism department, but it was so hard to suspend disbelief at some points, all I could do was laugh lol
Overall a pretty sweet series but I have thoughts about the ending below the spoiler!
The ending just did not make any sense and was clearly only added for dramatic purposes, which is fine if this were some melo soap opera, but that's not the vibe this drama gave off. I'm sorry, but you're telling me that Damian and Jerry were together for at least 4+ years and Damian never once mentioned he had a son! And clearly never had his son come visit within that time since it's a surprise to Jerry. Was he even an involved father?? This just doesn't fit the character of Damian, who was all about honesty and being proud of yourself, etc. I get what the writers were trying to do, but it was a poor choice for potential story development given everything else we saw, in my opinion.
Ok just finished and wow! I was not expecting to enjoy it as much (mainly based on the rating) but it just goes to show you can't always trust that indicator. Really well done and I'm looking forward to Season 2!
