Well said! I think we should still wait and see the context of 33-34, a lot of time the teasers have been misleading. Splendor similarly had a long, strange, and weirdly plotted period of non-marriage even though they already lived together, mostly to sustain some tension. I wouldn't say that plot was tighter. But I do agree that the writer is taking her time here with FL's emotional turmoil. I have some empathy for that - she's repressed it for years! With all the messed up things the ML has done, I'd say - let him suffer more :) longer!

if you hate the character you are immersing yourself in the story too! :) I think what people find it hard to accept is that someone can disagree with how they view a character, and can still enjoy watching a show.

Oh interesting. Fiction is fiction, and I think one can find something *fun* to watch, without endorsing it morally in real life. One can recognize toxic dynamics without finding them romantic...so it's interesting to me that people think it's romantic when it's clearly not :D

Wait people find it romantic? That's... interesting. I find it utterly repulsive, the same way LX might feel. And hell yeah for the dress down she gave him afterwards (in ep 30). I think both the grandpa's speech and LX's show us that JQ character growth will be from learning that he can't always just take what he wants by force.

Yeah it's like if Deng Kai's character was the ML in PoJ lol I love an anti hero. He's complex and entertaining as a character. I understand why people might drop because they feel like they can't root for him, but personally I'm ok not watching a straightforwardly moral and romance (whatever flavor of romance or relationship we have and will have here).

I thought so too. Jiugao is very loyal, he wouldn't have done it without his master's order. Since other people saw it too, it would eventually travel to his mom, and probably not favorably (to Lanxiang). Might as well act first to control the narrative, and turn it into an advantage (his mom has some sympathy for Lanxiang after hearing it).

I think it actually creates and sustains excellent internal conflict to make us anticipate future episodes. If they get married and are happy, what else would we look for? They would then have to manufacture external conflict like...more crazy women or something.

Agree. But I low-key feel bad for him that he doesn't realize the depth of his trouble lol she can't bring herself to be happy about marrying into the Lin family, of all families. But he doesn't even know the whole history! Man is in for a surprise :/

There's a note at the beginning saying the setting is a fictional era. They must have riffed on the real history, but I don't think they plan to follow it closely (also strict censorship rules about that - if they are not going to reflect history truthfully they can't use real era 's names. And they can't follow it closely because they have to make space for our characters.
